I just hope it still runs well on the Steam Deck with the updated system requirements. Honestly the new requirements (and the content in the expansion) are what the game should have launched with.
Yeeeaaah...
I think it's a very good game and it did a lot of things well in portraying cyberpunk setting. But maybe let's not set our expectations as high as before?
I'm a lifelong Diablo fan, so I'll probably pick this up next week. One thing that bugs me is that folks keeps saying "it's just cosmetics". To me, this ignores the fact that, since Diablo 3, your character's look is part of the fun. That cool armor you just found looks cool too. Now I worry that the gear is going to look boring so that you're subtly nudged in the direction of buying cosmetics.
Basically, I still want to be able to play dress-up.
The initial gear isnt bad looking at all. I get that some people dont like that its "Just Cosmetics" But in the end, it is. I think as long as we are not hiding power and stats behind a paywall its fine.
I mean they have a promotion with KFC to buy Chicken Sandwiches and get cosmetics. Its goofy and dumb, but thats like a paywall too. Not a huge deal in my opinion but everyone has their own.
I am loving D4 so far, and i dont plan on spending real $$ on any of the cosmetics personally. I do have the battle-pass version of the game, But i like battle passes as it gives me extra activities to do when im enjoying the game, for some more unlocks.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to get it. I'm not one of those "MTX is destroying gaming" types. I also feel like buying a $70 game only to be confronted with MTX right out of the gate doesn't feel great, but as long as the game is fun, I'll be OK. I also don't mind paying for drip-fed content as long as the base game is complete.
If you say the base gear looks good, that goes a long way towards encouraging me to purchase it on payday. I feel like most folks who've played it have said it was pretty fun.
Is there repeatable content for the endgame like D3, or did they go another direction with it?
Im honestly not sure about that yet. My highest character is like 42. I know all the dungeons and stuff are repeatable and resetable. and i like the more "open world" feel of it.
The level sync works great. lets you do everything at your own pace. one of my characters is in the 30s and hasnt started the 2nd act quests yet. my other one was almost at act 3 quests at 35. And your friends of any level can just hop in and they are at the same story quests, so no remaking characters just to play with friends.
This might be a good thing all around. Bioware needs to focus on DA and ME, they need love and attention to not have another ME:A or Anthem.
In addition 3rd party studios are usually trying hard to prove themselves, depending on the relationship it could end up great. Fallout:NV of course is a great example of a studio handing IP over to a third party.
I agree, BioWare does not need to be devoting its resources to SW:TOR at this point. It's been out for a good, long while and the fact is, MMORPGs are not big money-makers these days. There was a huge wave of them in the wake of WoW's success but none of them were able to achieve the kind of market success, player base or staying power of WoW. That ship has sailed, and it's only appropriate to let the BioWare devs get back to doing what they do best.
I don't have high hopes for the next Dragon Age game, but would love to be pleasantly surprised. They've changed directions so many times during the development of that game, so I'm expecting the end result to be a mess. Mass Effect gives me slightly more hope as a possible return to form for BioWare though, if they learn from Andromeda's missteps and focus on what made the original trilogy (particularly the first two games) great.
I really want to see where they go with Mass Effect and I do hope they’ve learned from their mistakes. I actually think ME3 was better than 2 in a few respects right up until that terrible ending. ME:A turned out okay once they fixed the issues but it wasn’t the Mass Effect I was hoping for.
I played ME:A all the way through and.. so much filler. Not a train wreck though, I tried to start another playthough and couldn't do it because while the engine was good when you scratched the surface, it was just surface.
For the record I love the mass-effection of Dragonage called Dragon Age 2 so I get it.
