Mesophar,

They never said that there aren’t trans vegans, they said that they have witnessed a subset of vegans spouting transphobia online with claims from those same vegans that hormone therapies weren’t vegan. They did not make a claim one way or the other about it themself.

Mesophar,

Pretty sure that motherboard is only gen 3 pcie, so you aren’t getting full potential of your gpu. Bumping to a b520/b550 would help there.

16gb of ram is fine, but 32gb would likely work better with newer games.

I’d invest in a better power supply down the line. At least something gold+ is my usual recommendation.

CPU should be fine, even with the most modern games. Cooler is a beast. GPU is a little on the lower side of you’re looking at 1440 resolution, but should be golden for 1080.

The motherboard is by far the weakest point, and is likely holding back other parts of the build already.

Mesophar,

I fail to see the equivalency between “murder a bunch of people” and “a bunch of people are no longer allowed in a luxury resort”.

If you fail to pull Gale through the portal, can you recruit him later?

I failed the strength check despite being a paladin and using inspiration. I never saw him again even after getting through nearly all of act 2. I’ve asked this before, maybe even in this community, but no one gave a concrete answer, likely because the game was still new.

Mesophar,

It’s a game that’s meant to be played multiple times, since you can’t experience everything in one playthrough. I agree it can be frustrating when something gets locked out as easily as a failed roll, and that often causes choice paralysis in myself while I play, but you need to go in with the mindset of not being able to complete everything the first attempt (or you’ll go insane).

I hope you can try the game again in the future and enjoy it! Maybe having several plays going at once and save scumming at choice points so you can use the same character for most of the options!

Mesophar,

It’s more than just “playable”, but it also is not a finished, fully fleshed out game, either. Definitely worth checking out during the occasional free-fly events (though one has just ended, so might be a little while for the next).

Mesophar,

That’s a little unfair, because enjoyment of something doesn’t necessitate it being experienced from beginning to end in a linear progression. Something like the seasonal(?) content on No Man’s Sky often requiring a save file being restarted and not needed the main story to be completed to finish the new objectives. Or, something like Path of Exile, where each season progresses from a fresh start at level 1, with no progress carried over.

Progress gets rest on those about as frequently, it not more so, than the resets in Star Citizen, except those games are also feature complete with a full story involved.

Maybe something like Ark, then, with the creation of new servers. No real story being progressed through, but a multi-player sandbox environment. Again, though, that’s a feature complete game where all the systems (mostly) work.

I guess where I’m going is that you can certainly look at individual elements of the game and compare those to similar systems in other games. And if expectations are of it being a sandbox you can mess around in and experience some cool systems, it will deliver. But it is not a finished game that has persistent player driven progress. It is not a game with a story path you can follow (though, I don’t think it claims to be once fully released, either). It is buggy at times and suffers server issues as the small changes and interactions build up over time, making an instance unstable and eventually kicking everyone logged in.

“Demo” might be the closest description, but that doesn’t quite capture the experience of playing it. It falls very short of being a full game. It also is something that other games just don’t capture the same feeling of.

Again, I’m not trying to convince anyone to spend any money towards it, but absolutely give the free fly events a chance.

Mesophar,

Dude, just have to say, your comments are so informative, helpful, and tailored to the individual’s question or situation. Thank you for being a part of this community! Your example makes the place better for everyone.

Mesophar,

I’m a bit confused by your comment. By workday, do you mean individual for employees, or do you mean “business days”, like when banking and financial transactions are historically run?

4 day work week would be for individual (full time, salaried) employees, to have a 4 day/32 hour workweek instead of a 5 day/40 hour workweek (at the same compensation). Companies like Amazon running 7 days a week just means the business doesn’t close down over weekends or such, but doesn’t generally mean a given employee is working 7 days straight. (Though, it absolutely can result in employees working 7 days straight, depending on pay period, how weeks are broken down for scheduling and payroll, and whether overtime is allowed and/or encouraged.)

Mesophar,

Poe’s Law is getting rougher and rougher

What's the best graphics card thats worth getting to upgrade an older PC?

My PC is getting on a little, it’s running on an i7-4790k, 16gb ddr4, and a GTX 970. right now, it’s struggling some in most games even though I don’t play any triple A titles. What would be a sensible upgrade that wouldn’t get totally bottlenecked by the CPU?...

Mesophar,

Or even see if you can find an RX 6600. Around US$200 right now, and should give decent performance without being horribly bottlenecked

Mesophar,

Yes, the trophy was security’s fault because it was from excessive force. He was already restrained! I’m not saying the guy wasn’t in the wrong for climbing on stage, but people climb on stages all the time without security breaking the centerpiece of the event while apprehending them.

Mesophar,

Absolutely love that book. Was one of the foundational ones for me when I was younger!

Mesophar,

Developed a passion for space travel and orgies, did you? Me too.

Considering I also enjoyed Stranger in a Strange Land, perhaps…

Mesophar,

But think of the poor, starving CEOs! /s

Mesophar,

I think you misspelled jenim in the image

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

Mesophar,

I’m really surprised I haven’t seen them mentioned here (and apologies if someone did suggest it and I missed it!).

The Monkey Island games. Super simple controls, as most of it is point and click. Not expensive to get into, so no big loss if it ends up not being her thing. They are silly and clever, and reward the player for being silly and clever. They are puzzle games that require some attention to detail and curiosity to solve, but there isn’t any “fail” condition. You just don’t progress if you can’t solve the puzzle. It doesn’t assume any prior game knowledge or habits; a lot of games will expect the player to be familiar with certain controls or tropes commonly used in games, but Monkey Island is more similar to a “choose your own adventure” style story.

Mesophar,

Ok, so average respiration rate for adults over 18 during sleep peaks at 20 breaths per minute. That’s 1200 breaths per hour, and with a cushy 8 hours of sleep, that’s a whopping 9600 breaths while asleep, maximizing the average. That would net you $480 just for sleeping.

In comparison, on average at a 3 miles per hour pace, it takes 20 minutes to walk 2,252 steps. $480 would take 1,920 steps, and would take about 15.5 minutes to walk at the same pace.

So, 15 minutes of relaxed but purposeful walking would match the total amount you’d make on average for sleeping.

Mesophar,

Tbh if I was lost and I got a call come through, I’d answer regardless of what caller ID said. If they were wasting my time, I’d just hang up.

Now, at home when I’m safe and everything is fine… I’m sure I’ve missed phone interviews at least once or twice letting voice-mail catch it…

Why are keyboards getting smaller?

I’m not a true mechanical keyboard enthusiast. I mean I like a good keyboard for typing code, so I rolled with model-Ms in the 80s and 90s, then some expensive Cherry keyboard I only recently retired because it was utterly spent (and it was PS/2), and now I happily use a Wooting Two HE....

Mesophar,

Point 2 is absolutely subjective, though. Personally, I think a full size or TKL look a lot better than a compact. It’s too distracting seeing something “missing” from a traditional setup. Though, I also like to have my keyboard and mouse a good distance from each other and spread out, rather than close and centered in front of me.

Mesophar,

Everyone else talking about raw eggs, I just had a mental image of someone completely splattering an egg on their counter

Printable Walkthroughs

Hello everyone, I remember the times of walkthrough guides being used for older games and was wondering if there is a central area for game walkthroughs for both newer games and older games through late 90s and early 2000s. There are official game guides which I may get, but fan guides would be cool as well....

Mesophar,

I don’t know of any single site where different game guides are aggregated, at least not the same way they were in the 90s/00s. Most games tend to use their own Wiki/Fandom sites for that sort of thing now.

Gamefaqs might be worth checking out, as well.

You’ll probably end up needing to print several different pages and aggregate them together to get a single, offline guide for a game, but certainly possible with prep time.

Mesophar,

I just did this with my desktop pc when I added a second drive for additional storage. Instead of using it as additional storage for windows like I initially intended, I decided to dual boot with Mint on the second drive.

So far, I haven’t had any issue with gaming on Mint, either! Granted, most of the games I play are through Steam and either work with Proton or are native Linux to begin with. I did install a few games with Lutris, though, and works fine so far. Sea of Thieves, Astroneer, Slay the Spire, Deep Rock Galactic, are all working out of the box.

Only thing I haven’t attempted yet are multiplayer games with active anti-cheat, like LoL or CS:2. If those are the sorts of games you regularly play, you’ll probably be better off in the Windows partition/drive, but have fun experimenting in Linux!

Mesophar,

Didn’t get that comment out Swift enough
