amanneedsamaid,

Emacs find-file with vertico and orderless achieve this nicely.

amanneedsamaid,

If anything I use them for everything because I find it much easier / faster.

amanneedsamaid,

Image Toolbox + Aves Libre is my current setup.

amanneedsamaid,

Worth mentioning that I could not for the life of me get Jami to work in any way the last time I tried it; I’ve seen many guides and overviews, but couldn’t find a single one where it’s actually successfully used. Cool idea, though

Alternatives to Google Docs/sheets?

What are people using in place of Google docs/sheets/etc? I’m looking for a simple program that syncs with the cloud so I can access my documents on my different computers or my Android phone. I run Windows 10 (don’t crucify me). I use libre office for things that can stay on one computer, but for things like school notes,...

amanneedsamaid,

I love Fedora Sircea, however NixOS seems like a better solution (albeit with a larger learning-curve.)

EDIT: Just looked it up, I guess it was renamed “Sway Atomic”, and iirc they’ve also released a Budgie Atomic version with Fedora 40!

amanneedsamaid,

orderless achieves the same sort of thing in emacs, but I also use an fzf zsh alias to see my shell history all the time!

alias hf=“history -100 | fzf”

amanneedsamaid,

Thank you for the reply! Just figured that out and its awesome! Love CTRL+T for file names and ALT+C for cding.

amanneedsamaid,

Lucky new-age shell bastards.

amanneedsamaid,

Fr, the mode indicator rotates, and the way the lines on the indicator move with the lines behind it is pretty psychadelic.

amanneedsamaid,

The fact that letting users choose what software they’d like to install wasn’t seen as an fundamental part of a computer really highlights Apple’s backwards philosophy towards user experience.

amanneedsamaid,

And even if the App Store was perfectly safe, keeping users safe via restricting basic functionality instead of increasing tech literacy is a backwards approach

amanneedsamaid,

Chromebooks are even worse: “Instead of hampering user’s computers for safety, we’ll make a ‘computer’ that just launches our proprietary web apps!”

amanneedsamaid,

I use an rsync bash script and a 1TB SSD. I keep media unencrypted, and use Veracrypt containers for any sensitive data I need to back up.

How to let my kids find quality games on Android? Right now they only find the pay to win / ad riddled games.

My 9yo daughter has a tablet with family link, so I can monitor what apps she wants to install. As the garbage games are mostly at the top free, she keeps asking for games that I reject, in most cases because it’s riddled with ads....

amanneedsamaid,

I agree, open source games are designed with fun in mind instead of attention grabbing garbage and ads.

amanneedsamaid,

I think the exact opposite, most people’s (who are old enough to have learned cursive) handwriting are more legible in cursive. A huge amount of people print AWFULLY.

amanneedsamaid,

The gameplay got a lot better when Overwatch 2 dropped, and then they just killed it with a lack of content, both multiplayer and story mode.

amanneedsamaid,

6v6 -> 5v5 made the gameplay MUCH better. The new heroes weren’t disappointing at all, the game seemed like it was going in a good direction. I disagree on your last two points, and the first one is not relevant to what I said, as that was a major improvement to Overwatch. Too many barriers and abilities on the field in 6v6, and the switch to 5v5 immediately made the game more rewarding and fun.

What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...

amanneedsamaid,

An open world, create your own character Star Wars game, hands down. That shit would be fucking amazing.

amanneedsamaid,

YES like I just want to milk alien cows

amanneedsamaid,

Its the closest we have!

amanneedsamaid,

They also switched to Unreal Engine, which might mean less bugginess than Payday 2.

amanneedsamaid,

If a game has a single player mode without features that require internet, and isn't accessible without wifi, thats just lazy design imo.
