Drones trespassing in my property

Idk if anyone had a similar problem before, but I live in EU by the countryside, at first there were only a few but now it happens more and more often to see drones passing over my house, I am sure they are civilian drones because law enforcement has no reason to use them since the area is quiet (and honestly I doubt they would...

True, but also there’s the more general point about “I support the cause but not the method” naysayers being absolutely counterproductive. Climate protesters are finding themselves cut off from every method of protest, violent or not. Because lots of people want to continue business as usual in peace without those pesky tree huggers complaining about, y’know, the fact we’re already well past the Paris 1.5 °C target with no end in sight

Hamas Wants Guarantees Ceasefire Will Actually Happen, While US Says Hamas Is Rejecting the Proposal (truthout.org)

Following the UN Security Council vote to approve a three-phase ceasefire in Gaza, U.S. officials and other international allies of Israel are cynically placing blame on Hamas for a stall in current ceasefire negotiations — even as Israel has insisted on indefinitely continuing its massacre in Gaza and Hamas has said its main...

Israel kills tens of thousands of innocent civilians, makes many more homeless refugees, destroys every piece of civil infrastructure, does not allow for food to enter into the region at a scale necessary to avert famine…

Netanyahu says deadly Israeli strike in Rafah was the result of a 'tragic mistake' (apnews.com)

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that a “tragic mistake” was made in an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza city of Rafah that set fire to a camp housing displaced Palestinians and, according to local officials, killed at least 45 people....

Why not?

Because of what they’re saying. Actions aimed at innocent civilians for a political goal, that’s terrorism. If you’d apply that definition to one, then also apply it to the other

Did anyone see that interview with Taylor Lorenz? Chaya’s so dumb. This anti-LGBT stuff is her bread and butter and she doesn’t know a damn thing about it.

It’s an apt comparison. A good majority of young people want the destruction of Gaza to stop but the president won’t have it. If young people don’t go to vote for Biden in November, this will be the reason. This effect becomes stronger and stronger the longer this goes on. It absolutely can define the generation that is now growing up into politics

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

What the hell are you talking about? The comparison is between the US college protest being like the Vietnam protest, not between the conflicts in Vietnam and Gaza which are nothing alike. This is a politically coming of age of a new generation of protesters, and the political establishment dug themselves into a position that these protesters will never accept. This may be Biden’s downfall because there’s no chance he’ll give up his full support of Israel and the occupation.

Whatever you say. You sound like a Hillary supporter with that “smart voters would never do that” energy. I’m out. You can have the last word. Or lots of words

It was never in the cards, sorry to say. To be leftist means to grow stronger every time you lose. The Democratic Party would rather lose to Trump than win with a scary socialist.

For those who don’t know: The Hannibal directive was official policy of Israel to stop abductions of Israeli soldiers by all means necessary, including the death of the (Israeli) hostage. Often summarized as “rather dead than abducted”. The name was chosen randomly. Israel claims they no longer use this policy, but this is disputed.

ML can choke on my dick. Fuck autocrats. Your vanguard party are just the next oppressors

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

What we need is a culture shift, not oppression. I refuse to believe mankind is not capable of improving their collective behavior except under threat of violence - In fact, I think such violence would be counterproductive if the goal is to live in harmony with planetary limits. Degrowth cannot be imposed. Society must want it. Stop being mindless consumers. We can’t make that happen by the barrel of a gun. Peace must be included

As long as you realize oppression will only make it harder, not easier, to counter a crisis of human selfishness.

qevlarr, (edited )
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

Suffering can be alleviated but not eliminated. I talk about oppression, which is domination of one group over another, with violence. This happens in fascism but historically also with (ML) communism. I’m saying that using the power of the state to FORCE people to change their ways, will be counterproductive. I’m on board with degrowth, but something positive must replace the consumerism.

The miscommunication is your misunderstanding of the word oppression in relation to ML. I’m talking about a specific problem with the ML “solution” to climate change. I don’t have all the answers, but I know ML only makes things worse for everyone.

What the Supreme Court Got Wrong in the Trump Section 3 Case (www.lawfaremedia.org)

Trump deserved to lose on all these points, and the Colorado Supreme Court correctly rejected his arguments on them. But I think he did have a plausible argument on the issue of whether his involvement in the Jan. 6 attack was extensive enough to qualify as “engaging” in insurrection. At the very least, he had a better...

People are downvoting because they don’t like this, but you are correct. That’s why this capture of the Supreme Court is so dangerous. They don’t have ethics rules, they can overturn laws, they know they can do whatever the fuck they want.

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

This happens in every conflict, to a certain degree. The real news is that the report found only a couple of instances where it is plausible, no hard evidence at all, and that the Israeli claim that thousands were raped are fabrications. For example, the story of a pregnant women having her baby ripped out: complete hoax.

Israel has been propagating so many lies that apparently it’s news that one of them had at least a small bit of truth to it

Not much later Blizzard banned me from Starcraft 2 that I paid with my own money for “account sharing” because I played at work a few times, which is just across the border in another country. They would not unban me until I changed my pseudonym to a real name and provided a copy of my passport to prove it. Fuck that. I always owned this copy. I had the original box and game code and everything. There were no other fraud indicators

I vowed to never give Blizzard money ever again and I kept that promise. I loved their games too death, it sucks

This right here is what I’m talking about. We all know the history, thank you very much. Germany’s stance comes from extreme loyalty to Jews to make up for past crimes, not from a desire to genocide Gazans. I can’t say it any more plainly. These jokes and remarks about “Germans always be genociding” are insulting and incorrect.

And you don’t have to explain to me how Israel is absolutely in the wrong in this conflict, my friend. Israel is committing (and has been committing) genocide and I condemn that to the fullest. Not only should there be a ceasefire, there should be an end to the occupation

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

True but these American jokesters aren’t referring to that, I can assure you.

We should do something about right wing extremism being on the rise all over Europe, especially the politicians and rich fucks getting away with it

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

I know, it’s fucked up. I just want to comment on these braindead “Nazis gonna Nazi, amirite?” comedians littering every thread about Germany and Israel right now

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

AfD are not all Germans. You know this. There have been widespread protests. I’m assuming you’re Dutch and I hope you would be equally offended if people said you are complicit in Geert Wilders horrible utterings. There aren’t any widespread protests of PVV as for the AfD.

I don’t see the point in arguing here, to be honest. I am not defending anything bad here. I’m just sick of the kneejerk reaction equating present day Germans to actual 1940s Nazis for shits and giggles.

We need Germans who support Israel unconditionally to consider that Jews aren’t the victims this time, and that protecting Jewry from antisemitism does not mean they can’t do anything wrong, ever. It doesn’t help if people show a blatant disregard for the history and sensibilities of German society

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

The low blow is counterproductive, don’t you see?

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

Fair enough but the generalizations aren’t helping. We need them to see how Israel is on the wrong side, because simply calling them Nazis is just adding to the confusion. How can they be Nazis by supporting Jews, they’ll say. It doesn’t make sense.

qevlarr, (edited )
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know why you keep telling me this. You keep drawing me into some conversation about how awful it is what’s happening, and I agree. Israel is committing genocide. I never said otherwise. This isn’t about that. I know what is happening. I’m just trying to give the German perspective because it’s nothing like Germans are always supporting genocide or their culture is still full of Nazi shit. It isn’t. Not saying their stance on Israel isn’t wrong, the government still sides with Israel, but please try to be a little informed.

qevlarr,
@qevlarr@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks. I think it’s nice that you come out and say this. I want to say it doesn’t bother me but it does. I am playing on the same damn team as they are. They’re throwing all these talking points at me and I’m like “I know! I agree with all of that!”, so surreal
