RedditRefugeeTom, in Starfield Official Gameplay Trailer

Out of a 3 minute trailer, I saw 15 seconds of gameplay. But let's be real. This is Bethesda. We know what to expect. Tons of bugs and an already prepared statement to release after people realize their $70-$300 game isn't released in a playable state. The best thing to do is wait for release. Check out reviews from your favorite source and also User reviews. Then wait a year for the community mod that fixes all the bugs that Bethesda was not able to fix. Then you might as well wait another year for DLC and for Starfield to be on sale.

Naryn,

There's like a 50 minute gameplay walkthrough.

Dont get baited into preorders. The game is not going anywhere and there is unlimited number of copies.

Wish there was a pin comment feature here.

I’m very excited for this expansion, but at best I’m buying it on the release date

I honestly don't understand the rush. There is a shitload of good games to play till then. I just started Persona5 and I am good for some time now. Once I finish, I will come and grab the PL DLC (maybe even discounted) free of hype and bullshit, maybe even with a fixed bug or two.

Hold tight, no preorders!

Maybe I should finish the game, before the patch and then after, to experience the differences!

… Who am I kidding, I will probably procrastinate playing, since my backlog is too long and then maybe play it in September. Looking forward to the DLC, it sounds great!

Oh, looks like the time is coming to finally buy this game.

People have said escort quests but I'm going to go more specific.

Escort quests WHERE THE NPC INEXPLICABLY HAS A DIFFERENT WALKING/RUNNING SPEED THAN THE PLAYER.....

idiotexe,
@idiotexe@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I have yet to play a game where NPCs have the same speed as the player, have you? I get it on the game design level, since NPCs need to move at a speed that their animations look natural at but player characters need to move fast enough to not feel frustrating to the character.

jws_shadotak,

I have yet to play a game where NPCs have the same speed as the player, have you?

RDR2 did an excellent job with this by making it more of a pseudo cutscene. You can just hold a button and your character will match the target speed.

drmatus,

I think it was on one of the Half-Life 2 developer commentary where they mention that the made the NPC move faster than your walking speed, but slower than your running speed, so that you are able to catch up with them if you stay behind to look at something. If they move at your running speed, you are kinda forced to follow them all the time, and any obstacle will separate you more and more from the NPC that you are supposed to escort.

eldrichhydralisk, in What are y'all's all time favourite game OSTs?

This is going way back, but the 7th Guest soundtrack had lived in my head since the first time I saw the game. Really great atmosphere, equal parts creepy and playful, perfect mood for a haunted mansion filled with puzzles.

Opteryx,

The haunted jazz aesthetic of the soundtrack is so enjoyable!

ycnz, in What are some of your LEAST favorite game mechanics?

The bit in the RPG when your character gets captured and you lose all your gear, and have to do the shitty stealth thing.

UnitCircle, in How many steam deck folks are here and what are you playing?

I'm trying to finish Yakuza 0. But christ this game is long. If the rest of the series is this bad I might have to pass on it. Great game but just...too much of everything.

newproph,

It is a stop and smell the roses type of game. It has some of the best sidequests in gaming. they are quite long though. I hope the other games are as good as 0 and Like a Dragon.

UnitCircle,

Absolutely. I'm loving it, the cult sub quest is a standout. but the absolute deluge of content is a bit overwhelming and forces me to take long breaks. I'll spend a solid week on that game, maybe finish a chapter, and just need a break.

polygon, in Whats a game that everybody seems to love that you cant stand for one reason or another?

I'll probably get roasted for this but.. Pokemon. It just seems like endless copy/paste and might be one of the laziest game franchises I've ever seen. I've really tried to get into them. I was there when the Pokemon cartoon started, I saw it rise to the phenomenon it is today, but damn if it isn't the most boring grindfest ever.

Stardew Valley. I don’t find it relaxing at all but a chore and stressful due to the day/night cycle. I feel like Terraria is handling day/night much better.

sydneybrokeit,

Yep. I love planting things, harvesting them… I want Stardew Valley without the time management stuff.

asqapro,

If you’re on PC, there’s mods to help with the time (even stopping it altogether). I haven’t tried them out myself, but this mod would solve the time management issue: www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/169

sydneybrokeit,

Yeah, I’ve tried those out before. It tends to make the game feel weird, if that makes sense? Like, everything is still expecting time to progress.

Really, I want a game like Stardew, but without the hard timeline baked in from the start.

Jentu, in Whats a game that everybody seems to love that you cant stand for one reason or another?

Any game that has daily login bonuses or a bonus for playing every day. Animal crossing pocket or whatever it is. Pokémon go. A bunch of afk phone games. A bunch of gacha games. It just feels so shallow to me. Like, I’m not being manipulated to play something, I just end up feeling so guilty to lose a streak I’d rather delete the game.

Dathknight,

While not a daily login bonus, the weekly and monthly tasklist of Forza Horizon 5 killed the game for me. It triggered some sort of fomo and I would rush in every week to grind the new tasks/events. That burned me out very fast, so I could not enjoy the rest of the game.

Dragonmind, in How many steam deck folks are here and what are you playing?

Yeah, baby! Somebody point me in the direction of another Steam Deck subre-... Channel?

I've been playing lots of Street Fighter 6, but also Metroidvania indies. Currently playing through They Always Run and it's pretty much pixel 2d Mandalorian and it's pretty damn cool!

worfamerryman,

I think the word you are looking for in "community".

There’s been some great advice in this thread. In the future though here’s a shout out for one of my favorite wikis out there, the before I play wiki .

It’s great and has useful tips for all kinds of games. Good luck in Hollownest!

laresek, in What’s everyone playing this weekend?

Tears of the Kingdom. I’m going to be here for awhile, but this game has made me want to play some other Switch games in my collection that I’ve been putting off, like Xenoblade Chronicles.

norgur,
@norgur@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Xenoblade is awesome! It blew my mind that sooo many really outstanding Switch games were in fact done by the same company!
