NettoHikari, in Making a tenkeyless from a fullsize keyboard by cutting it in half
@NettoHikari@social.fossware.space avatar

So you cut away the best feature?

ludw,

I guess that’s debatable, I just wanted the mouse closer ;)

DannyMac,
@DannyMac@lemmy.world avatar

I get that. I wish southpaw layout was more common.

Astongt615,

For my home setup I just decided a separate numpad/macropad with a 65/75% was the answer. Or wait until Candy Bar R4 😊

soulsuit, in How important are standoffs?

It depends on case material and mounting type. But generally standoffs create separation and stability between the PCB and case, especially with tray mount boards.

Some people reduce the number of standoffs in certain areas to allow more flexibility in the PCB. But, if your keyboard case material is metal, and you have no standoffs, or the PCB is flexible enough to contact the case, it can short the connections which may cause switches to malfunction or behave erratically.

Goodbye affordable and authentic Audio equipment

infinitevalence, in where should I go for key caps?
@infinitevalence@discuss.online avatar

Sadly its so hard to get first party caps that I have mostly given up and just buy clones from Aliexpress.

I have purchased from the following Aliexpress stores:

epailon,

I got the dots from GMK-Key and the dots are offset from center a bit. It’s annoying but not a deal breaker I guess.

infinitevalence,
@infinitevalence@discuss.online avatar

Yeah I got some Geoma clones and they have a few little errors but I could live with them.

Gork, in Making a tenkeyless from a fullsize keyboard by cutting it in half

I would have cut out the arrow key / pg up/dn block and reglued the keypad area. I use the keypad far more often than that area.

But I’m also crazy because I have a separate standalone Bluetooth keypad for my left hand as well so I have double the keypads!

orionstein, in where should I go for key caps?

See through caps are not going to be very popular. I would usually go for gmk, crp, or kat keycaps, but there won’t really be anything see through with those

That’s actually amazing.

dontwakethetrees, in Corsair acquires Drop
@dontwakethetrees@lemmy.world avatar

Gross. I’m expecting Drop to go downhill from here (they arguably did somewhat already in the Massdrop to Drop transition) and to see Corsair gamer puke advertised on their front page…

M_Reimer, in Built my Vault 35 yesterday

This looks nice but how do you type on it if a few letters are actually missing?

cloffwrangler,

Q, A, and Z are mapped to the Esc, Tab, and Shift keys on layer 0 and then there are additional layers for everything else.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Love it. Nice way to save space and take advantage of relative frequencies of keystrokes.

breadsmasher, in Built my Vault 35 yesterday
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

No Q,A,Z buttons, is this some sort of joke I’m not understanding?

cloffwrangler,

I just never type words with those letters.

breadsmasher,
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

What a quizzical answer ;)

cloffwrangler,

I could never type tht

Tatters, in where should I go for key caps?

ANSI or ISO? There is far more choice with ANSI.

I recommend Etsy for custom made/bespoke and unusual keycaps.

giantofthenorth,

ANSI.

I don’t particularly need a bunch of really unique key caps I pretty much just want something that looks good and goes well with black and i haven’t had luck so far.

Tatters,

You can get plainer key caps on Etsy too. I bought a set with half the caps blue and half white. There was lots of choices of colour from that seller.

DpwnShift, in Built my Vault 35 yesterday
@DpwnShift@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a sad keyboard! Whatever caused @cloffwrangler pain can’t actually contain madness! Thanks, that’s quite puzzling…

(All that requirered astonishingly absent caps.)

ParadoxSeahorse, in Making a tenkeyless from a fullsize keyboard by cutting it in half

I’ve got some coming in from Ali along with a couple of others that were mentioned. They won’t arrive for a bit though.
