Pretty much every browser on the planet other than Chrome has been doing this for years.

“One of the first” my ass

psudo,

The downside is it makes Google the de facto owner of all of your online information. You could never use a Google product, but because they have such a large market share they’ll essentially force every site and platform to use their solution.

So, having played some 2.2 for a while, I'm starting to warm up to the swing. I'm still not a massive fan and way prefer the ship (which gives you more control), but the swing's long sweeps can help give sections with it a large, grand vibe (e.g., the swing section in Dastardly). Maybe my distaste is just a skill issue. Idk.

Hardware security key options?

I've been thinking about getting a hardware security key and have heard of yubikey before; but I want to see what my options are and if they are worth it in your opinion.
My current setup is a local KeePassXC database (that I sync between my PC and phone and also acts as TOTP authenticator app), I know that KeePass supports hardware keys for unlocking the database.

I am personally still of the belief that passwords are the safest when done right; but 2FA/MFA can greatly increase security on top of that (again, if done right).
The key work work together with already existing passwords, not replace them.

As I use linux as my primary OS I do expect it to support it and anything that doesn't I will have to pass on.

PS: what are the things I need to know about these hardware keys that's not being talked about too much, I am very much delving into new territory and want to make sure I'm properly educated before I delve in.

This. Yubikey is not libre hardware, not sure why they’re so popular. I’d avoid any closed-source hardware for security devices. Its a bad idea.

I use Yubikey 5 NFC and Canokey Pigeon, both works out of box on Linux.

ShadowRam, to kbin

@kbin kbin is constantly returning 50x and 404 errors to me for the last few weeks. It's literally unusable, even for browsing. What's going on? Is it just me? should I move on to a different instance?

ShadowRam,

@jwr1

@kbin

Thanks for the thread info,

Norgur,

@ShadowRam Same goes for Lemmy. 0.19 seems to have produced some issues with outgoing federation, While most instances seem to be in the process of fixing this, the outgoing federation queues are days behind the curve in some cases.

From generative AI to the Apple Vision Pro headset, here are the tech developments that scored big this year.

CanadaPlus,

Wow, who’s going to sign up for Elon Musk’s risky brain implant trial? Maybe the same people who send their kids to Kanye West’s boarding school, I guess.

Nomecks,

The real winner this year is Supermicro. Don’t believe me? Go look at their stock gains. Literally powering everything behind the shiny, cool stuff.

That article is a bit out of date and wasn’t really true anyway. The people who are creating Pretendo, who wrote the blog post this article is based on, did an update on the situation, specifically calling out the media for their sloppy articles:

With that said, some outlets did a less than stellar job at reporting our last post, not covering some topics fully or accurately.

TL;DR: Many of the issues have already been fixed, even going so far as there are now entirely new servers in place to act as a proxy for Amazons servers to work around some security related incompatibility issues.

freebread,

Thank you for clarifying- still want to get back in for some Splatoon 1 before the end

This year, I bought the entire packs/bundles of classics via as well as 1 to 7 via .

The last time I played most of these were from 1988 to 1996. One or two I played again sometime early 2000s, randomly.

I already started with and Part 1, and I'm already cheating. ROFL. I mean, the packs made it easy to cheat.

Back in the 90s, we had to use a hex editor like . We open the savegame file, search through it through the hex editor, and did our magic.

LOL.

sub_,

Oh no, if you’re starting Ultima 7, then you might want to consider running it using Exult

Exult has some QoL additions, fixes, mods that should make your playthrough more enjoyable

@sub_ Yep, I'm using . I find it easier than regular . I used the files installed by GOG for Exult Linux. And true, I like the QoL features they added!

I saw this in Carole and Tuesday, they were the only “natural” songwriters left because computers wrote songs for everyone at that point. I don’t know if that’s a realistic take, but it’s depressing nonetheless. Why can’t we have computers do things that take joy from us instead of the things that bring us joy? You know, like cleaning up dumps or solving problems we would rather not think about? Why are they taking the arts away?
