Best Android spreadsheet editor?

I tried Collabora on a Galaxy Droid and it was such a massively buggy disappointment: in a .ODS file, I couldn’t backspace more than once; I could only delete one character at a time. I had to enter another character or move the cursor or do something else before it would take another backspace. I don’t understand how this...

Dymonika,

Interesting, thanks. Apparently the low reviews are from prior years before they stepped up their game, from what I can tell.

Dymonika,

Like what? Could they be nullified if we just disabled its Internet access?

Dymonika,

At first, I thought you were talking about any FOSS alternative to this Pac-Man-like shooter: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jakyl.f…

Dymonika,

Which is hopefully used locally only.

Ha. Haha, ha. Hahaha. Hahahahaha.

How is everyone handling the 2FA requirement for GitHub? (docs.github.com)

Just wondering what people are using to meet the 2FA requirement GitHub has been rolling out. I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone just to log into GitHub. And really don’t want to give them my phone number just to log in....

Dymonika,

I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone

For anything? Why not? Surely you don’t believe SMS-based TOTP is safer, right?

Dymonika,

“Time-based One-Time Password” literally says nothing about the delivery method. Who said it can’t involve remote sending?

And what would you call it, then, SOTP?

Anyway, regardless of the terminology-nitpicking, my point still stands.

Dymonika,

Do you think the SMS codes are not time-based on the companies’ ends? How are they deriving the digits, then?

Dymonika,

Interesting, I didn’t know that.

Dymonika,

Mostly due to lobbying?

Dymonika,

I was implying that it could be <10 years if there was no opposition to the new tech.

Dymonika,

Is Vencord superior to Discord in the web browser?

EDIT: Never mind; it has browser extensions! vencord.dev/download/

Venmo/ Paypal Alternatives (kbin.run)

I've long been annoyed that everyone, including myself uses Paypal/ Venmo for moving money around. What alternatives do you find useful? Here's a list (https://alternativeto.net/software/venmo/). GNU Taler looks viable (https://taler.net/en/index.html). I would love to have your thoughts!...

Dymonika,

Zelle is the closest acceptable alternative to PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App.

Dymonika,

But these smaller ones are scary to follow because they’ll always lag behind on security updates.

Dymonika,

It’s strange that it doesn’t have Waterfox. Anyway, that wasn’t my point in the first place; first, Mozilla has to release its bug fixes, and then all these other browsers’ devs have to release their own counterparts in response. It is during this window in time when they’re most insecure, since the issues are then brought to light while users are helplessly waiting.

Dymonika,

Hmm… true! And yes, there sure is: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.waterfo…

Dymonika,

What will stop bots from coming here? Registration filters and user reports?

Dymonika,

Kbin is constantly spammed with “buy online drugs here” links.

Got examples? I’ve never seen this once as a Kbin user.

Dymonika,

Will the probability of it making it in compound if we all say it?

Dymonika,

Seconded!

Dymonika,

All of that is incredible except the pineapple. It’s like eating Italian-sausage ice cream or something. Both are great separate, but certainly not together!

How I taught my classmates about libre software (lemmy.ca)

In economics class, we had to present a business plan. Mine was a coding summer camp for kids. I said the mission was “creating a generation of people who can work towards a bright future for the world.” In the slide that lists aspects of supporting that mission, two items were “libre software” and “contributing”...

Dymonika,

That way my partner can edit their list and I can see what they’re editing while doing the same on mine, thus avoiding collisions.

Even though you say you want to ditch this system, this is really as clever and thoughtful as it is creative and incredibly determined (in terms of sticking to FOSS to achieve this). You’re inspiring!

Dymonika,

Oh… I didn’t know Obsidian isn’t FOSS… Hmm, all I can think of is just some sort of read-only file on the other side’s end, and opening the two of them in split-screen…

Dymonika,

I can’t imagine what that would be since FOSS itself is already so niche. Do you want to start such a program at your local library? That would be awesome!

Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together?

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I’m reading is that it’s a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors’ pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

Dymonika,

the only viable option, assuming you’re not already independently wealthy, is that you have to work another job to work on the game in the meantime, which means it will take even longer to come out.

Or be ConcernedApe.

Dymonika,

Consider MacroDroid, which is free if you use no more than 5 macros.

How do you handle your passwords?

I rely on Bitwarden (slooowly migrating from… a spreadsheet…) and am thinking of keeping a master backup to be SyncThing-synchronized across all my devices, but I’m not sure of how to secure the SyncThing-synchronized files’ local access if any one of my Windows or Android units got stolen and somehow cracked into or...

Dymonika,

I guess it’s in cases when I may not be able to use Bitwarden, but… I suppose it can be used everywhere! Clearly, I’m new to this thing, so that’s good to know!

Dymonika,

What if the HDD catches on fire or the room gets flooded while you’re not home?

Dymonika,

I do have some issues with their organization accounts though.

Like what?

Dymonika,

they have a phenomenal track record in terms of security

I read that they have bowed to email subpoenas in the past.

Dymonika,

PS Bitwarden (company) stores only the encrypted version on their servers so that’s not an issue either

Whew, thanks!! They’re so Signal-level ingenious.

Dymonika,

I’m mortified to say I could certainly do more in this regard. Do you recommend a preferred method?

Dymonika,

Right, I can imagine that I could lock myself out otherwise. Thanks for the walkthrough!

Dymonika,

web storage

Google Drive?

Dymonika,

But the official SyncThing was more recently updated, last I checked. Should that be of concern?

Dymonika,

Oh, good to know, thanks!

Dymonika,

For PC, audacity has all these features, but its pretty clunky to use.

You could eliminate that clunkiness by building an AutoHotkey script to blaze through the menu to select and slow down the recording in one press.

Dymonika,

True… forgot! I wanna move to Linux but I’m having trouble with Python (to port over my Windows-only AutoHotkey scripts)…

Dymonika,

Thanks! Is it just me, or are videos from this website no longer loading?

Dymonika,

I tried it and I just… couldn’t get into it… It’s sure incredibly stylish, though!
