Hi, I’m going to chime in here as a male survivor of SA.
They are distinct in that the problem is far more pervasive toward women than men. If I may recommend some reading about this, the book “Everyday Sexism” by Laura Bates explores this very thing and was a big eye opener for me regarding what women experience just by existing in society as women.
This in no way diminishes the experience and trauma of people like myself, but this is a greater societal issue that disproportionately affects women. That’s what we’re talking about here.
Similar to how anyone can experience discrimination, but we need to talk about the specific groups and larger systemic issues lest we lapse into the “all lives matter” way of thinking.

I’m not sure it’s so much the rules. There are some really bad instances out there, most of which are defederated from the more popular ones because they’re so filled with things like what you described.
The difference between this and reddit is that most of the instance admins aren’t really interested in making a profit, don’t have to answer to things like advertisers or media perception, etc. so they’re more interested in creating a positive community for their users.
Yeah I’ve got my own playgroup, and while it’s got its own problems, I think it’s still so much better than playing with some salty randos at the LGS.
Regarding proxies, I bought a couple non-sexy ones on etsy so I wouldn’t have to take my most valuable cards with me, and now like 50% of my recommendations are big tiddie anime proxies. Even my search results have them inserted, even when I search for something completely unrelated. That site is wack.
I went to a Target last year that still had their Pride merch out after the backlash and tried to buy a beanie.
Fuckers weren’t even allowed to sell that shit even though it was still on the shelves.
Decided what was I even doing shopping at Target anyway and bought one from a queer artist on etsy instead.
If Target dares to run their corporate floats at Pride this year, I hope someone slashes all the tires.
Fuck Target anyway. They donate to anti-LGBTQ+ groups too and are anti-union, and they deliberately collect video evidence on shoplifters until they have enough to press felony charges. They have nothing but disdain for their workers and their customers.

This is anecdotal, but this problem is so evident if you interact with LGBTQ+ youth in any capacity. I used to mod a discord server with a lot of queer teens, and they’d vent in the chat, people would tell them to get help, and they’d be like, “Can’t.”
Then sometimes they’d message me out of desperation, and so I’d try to look up community resources for them, provide them with phone numbers and links, only for them to encounter further barriers, one of the big ones being lack of money, transportation, and parental support. Not to mention making sure the provider is an ally – lots of “Christian” providers out there who could do more harm than good.
Even as an adult with an income, it’s fucking hard to access mental healthcare, but it’s much, much worse for youth. The situation is dire, and I’d like to shake parents and guardians who don’t at a bare minimum support these kids and try to get them support and help them navigate the horrible system.
