Thou art forbidden to covet thy neighbours wife,

Thou art forbidden to covet the ox that he bought her,

But thank the lord that thou aren’t forbidden to convet thy neighbours daughter.

This was in contrast to Trump’s meeting earlier in the day with House Republicans on Capitol Hill. Attendees at that meeting told CNBC that the former president was animated and engaged and that Trump received several rounds of applause in separate meetings Thursday with both House and Senate Republicans.

It’s like North Korea in the GOP. If you aren’t clapping maniacally and openly sobbing in His Presence you will be primaried.

I, late-50s straight cis man, found out that a man that I had worked with for 20 years was gay. I had never given his sexual preference and thought and didn’t care either way. His boyfriend asked me not to say anything at work because he wasn’t out. I said I wouldn’t.

That year we invited them to our Christmas party. The boyfriend came but the guy from work didn’t. The boyfriend said that he didn’t come because he was afraid that people from work would be there find out.

I talked to him a couple of months later and told him that he should come out. I told him that people at work would say either, “I know/I suspected” or, “I don’t care I just want you to process this paperwork.” Later he told me that he had come out at work and that I was exactly right about people’s reactions.

Being closeted to your family is extremely stressful. I hope you find a way to come out and that they accept you.

My daughter came out to me several years ago. I love her more than life itself.

I live in Canada where marijuana is fully legal.

Ron DeSantis is a fucking idiot. Anyone who believes his bullshit is an even bigger fucking idiot.

The indoctrination to fear, hate, and self-loathing is so destructive to the individual and to society. This guy has tortured so many people, and himself, for so long.

Why scientists fear a second Trump term, and what they are doing about it: Several federal agencies are working to safeguard research, including climate science, from future political meddling. (wapo.st)

The Washington Post has recently started asking people to register in order to access gift links. You can put in a completely made-up email address, as there is no verification of the email address.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

This is a real concern. When Stephen Harper was elected in Canada he silenced government scientists, shut down government libraries, and ordered that climate and other research be destroyed. Neo-fascists will burn the country to the ground to push their political agenda.

The problem is that the christofascists have already won. The Supreme Court is filled with christofascist activist judges who will ignore precedent and rewrite settled law. Donald Trump is just a useful idiot to be disposed of once they have consolidated power. The left plays by the rules in a system that was setup to assume that everyone played by the rules. When you get a group like the christofascists who are willing to ignore the rules to destroy democracy and establish a christofascist autocracy you can’t beat them by playing by the rules. There is no constutional way to get rid of the Supreme Court because the christofascists have cheated and gerrymandered and voter suppressed to the point where the majority can’t gain enough seats to actually impeach them. Everything is lost unless the left does what needs to be done to stop the christofascists.

If this blubbering sack of shit cried every waking moment for the rest of his wothless life he wouldn’t shed as many tears as the parents, families, and friends of the children who were murdered at Sandy Hook did.

I uninstall One Drive, and every other Microsoft product that they will let me uninstall, as part of my Windows install process. Then I disable anything else that I can. Microsoft is doing everything it can think of to convince me to finally make the switch to Linux.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

I have run Linux on servers and I even have one machine running Linux as a workstation but I’m very confortable in Windows. I’ve been with Microsoft since the MS-DOS 3 days.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

I’m my sure that all of the tools that I use will run in Linux. I’m using Visual Studio to write Great Cow BASIC. I’ll probably give it a try and see what happens. I have several pieces of software that are quite old (AutoCAD 2001, PhotoShop CS4, etc) that I keep around because they aren’t the new subscription based everything you produce is ours bullshit. I guess I could run windows in a VM to run those.

Just my luck. I bought the AutoCAD for a project at work and took the keys with me when I left. I was the only person who ever used it. I became fairly comfortable with it and still use it rarely when I need to design something. The last time I used it was a couple of months ago to design new front step stringers for my parents house.

The PhotoShop I only use for producing all white versions of my customer’s logos with transparent backgrounds for presentations wit cover slides with dark backgrounds. I got hat through work as well. I was having sex with a woman from the creative department who would request the disks and keys and let me copy them. Given that I had very limited use for it I never bothered to try to update it after I left and we stopped havign sex.

Maybe I cuold find someone to have sex with for PS CS 6.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

I do that with Linux. I have a couple of Linux VMs that I use for one thing or another. Maybe it’s time to bring Linux forward and push Windows into a VM.

I have Gimp installed on my notebook. I struggled to get started. I guess I should watch a tutorial video or something.

We have it in Canada. Do you want to borrow ours?

The reality is that the US uses the metric system but everything is translated into freedom units for the general population. Another situation where you believe against all evidence that you have something that you really don’t have.

“We have a constitution that lays down the laws for us. As a republic, the individual is protected. So the minority can be protected. It’s not just majority rules.”

"We don’t like that the majority that we don’t agree with rules. We want a christofascist theocratic dictatorship where the minority we agree with rules.

They don’t like democracy because they don’t win.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

The problem is the supremacy of the individual ideology. They don’t see themselves as members of a society who have to compromise to get along.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Right, but the tyranny they’re taking about is other people having rights, and other people getting education, and other people getting healthcare, and other people having opportunities, and other people getting to vote. It isn’t that they are losing anything. They just don’t want people they think are inferior to be equal.

MapleEngineer, (edited )
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. I love the, “The US isn’t a democracy, it’s a Republic!” crowd. A Republic is a form of representatives democracy. The majority elects representatives who then vote on behalf of their constituents. They speak with such confidence but are completely wrong.

EDIT: The definition of a republic is, “a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.” Ancient republics may have been different but we don’t live in the ancient world. Not every country that calls itself a Republic is a Republic. The DPRK and Republic of Iran, for example, are a dictatorship and a theocratic autocracy. They are not republics.

The People are the citizens of the state not the white people, or the Christian people, or the Republican people, or the people you agree with. The People are all of the people. It is only a Republic if every single citizen has the right to vote and equal access to the ballot box. If you are trying to disenfranchise people who don’t vote the way you want them to you’re not a Republican, you’re a RINO.

The People may only exercise supreme power if they freely and fairly elect their representatives. If you’re trying to limit the number of polling stations in areas where people don’t vote the way you want them to, or to stop counting of ballots before every ballot is counted, or to make it difficult to vote by mail, or early, or on Sunday you are not a Republican, you’re a RINO.

In a Republic, every citizen has the right to vote, their votes all carry the same weight, and they have equal access to the ballot box. If you don’t have those things not only are you not a democracy but you’re not a republic either.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

The definition of a Republic is, “a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.”

If the people don’t elect their representatives and president then it’s not a Republic. The DPRK, for example, is not democratic and is therefore not a Republic. Autocracies are republics in name only.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

The key factor is the supreme power the people exercise. No democracy, no supreme power of the people, no Republic.

“If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

I bet her fake eyelashes were just a fluttering.

A GOP Texas school board member campaigned against schools indoctrinating kids. Then she read the curriculum. (www.texastribune.org)

Weeks after winning a school board seat in her deeply red Texas county, Courtney Gore immersed herself in the district’s curriculum, spending her nights and weekends poring over hundreds of pages of lesson plans that she had fanned out on the coffee table in her living room and even across her bed. She was searching for...

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

According to Gore, Criswell also pressured her to stop speaking with all of her fellow school board members, except for Graft. “They’re just lying to you. They’re not your friends,” she recalled him saying.

Cult much?

@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Do you know why no one takes you seriously? It’s because you lie and exaggerate and over dramatize in order to try to bully everyone into doing what you want. Extremists, ALL extremists, are the same. You all think that you’re somehow superior to the people you don’t agree with and that that superiority justifies anything that you do or say to them in order to bully them into compliance with your extremist beliefs. This pathological self-absolution is the hallmark of all extremists: vegan extremists, religious extremists, racial extremists, anti-choise extremists, anti-LGBTQ extremists…you’re all the same and everyone can see that.

The thing that you don’t understand is that I (and the vast majority of people) don’t give the first fuck what a self-absolving extremist with a pathologically misguided sense of absolute moral supremacy thinks.

You’re not here for a conversation. You’re here for ragesturbation. You people get off on rage. Sorry…I’m laughing at you, not raging.

EDIT: An vegan extremist apologist takes a run at me down in this thread. They misquote, misrepresent, hurl childish insults, and use an ineffective series of strawman arguments. They’re not trying to have a conversation. They had no intention of having a conversation. They’re trying to bully me into being quiet. It didn’t work. Take time to read the thread. It’s good for a laugh.

MapleEngineer, (edited )
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Using exaggerated, inaccurate, and sexually violent language, “fisting up to the elbow”, and accusing anyone who doesn’t agree with them of supporting the exaggeration IS bullying. It’s attempting to bludgeon anyone who doesn’t agree with their self-absolving moral superiority into submission.

It’s laughable.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

I compared one type of extremist to other types of extremists. They are the same in that they all have a pathological belief that they are superior and that the self-absolution that comes with that pathological belief justified anything they do to people they feel are inferior.

The pathology and wrong thought are the same.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

To be honest, I’m not sure which group of extremists you are an apologist for.

I mean, we all know that there are religious extremists so I assume you’re trying to deny the existence of vegan extremists who harass and attempt to intimidate business owners into complying with their demands and harass and intimidate their patrons.

An extremist is an extremist. They all believed that they are superior and they all believe that that superiority justifies anything that they do to people who don’t agree with them.

Same same.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Point to where I argued for eating meat. Go ahead and quote where I said anything about eating meat either way.

I didn’t state a position either way. All I said was that all extremists are the same. They all have the same thought pathology.

MapleEngineer, (edited )
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

Point to where I said that people who don’t eat meat are extremists. Point to anywhere in this thread where I said anything at all about everyday run of the mill vegans. Anywhere?

No?

I have been very clear about the fact that I’m talking about vegan EXTREMISTS, religious EXTREMISTS, racial EXTREMISTS, etc. They all suffer the same pathological wrong thought that they are morally or racially or religiously or nationally or sexually or ethnically superior which excuses anything that they do to anyone who they see as inferior.

Vegan extremists harass and attempt to intimidate business owners into complying with their demands. They harassed and intimidate their customers to try to drive them away and force them to comply and to harm the businesses. They harass farmers. They ragesturbate in discussion forums to try to harass people into doing as they say. They then self-absolve by convincing themselves that their crusade is righteous and anything that they do or say is justified.

They are wrong.

MapleEngineer,
@MapleEngineer@lemmy.world avatar

If you’ve got nothing but strawmen (this is your third in a row) and childish insults then I guess we’re done here.
