To use an analogy, imagine you’re fat and trying to lose weight. Someone admits they are attracted to you, “sure, as long as you’re still fat”. Can you see how this would not be a good basis for a healthy relationship? You could even say it is a sign of a “chubby chaser”. Likewise for transness.
Also, people are overly sensitive because being denied full/legitimate relationships is a frequent pain point for trans people (esp trans women). The classic trope is the boyfriend who will take you on dates but refuse to introduce you to his friends/relatives.
So yeah, I can see why a queer friendly instance would defederate an instance whose admins promote/defend that sort of rhetoric. Hexbear might have jumped the gun (as I told them at the time- the turnaround time was less than 24 hours and the head admin had no chance to respond) but the blahaj admins weren’t great either
It’s not just being attracted, it’s being attracted conditional on the person having x characteristic (that they might not even want to have). That’s the very definition of fetishizing/objectifying and it’s not toxic to criticize it.
I will grant that this is more of an issue for relationships than for hookups etc. As a wise woman once told me- chasers are gross, but they also help pay her rent, so really it’s impossible to say if they’re bad or not.
Potentially yes, they can exhibit similar patterns. In fact lots of cishet women have also complained about being objectified because their (potential) dating partner is attracted not to the whole package but to a specific part of them- it’s a classic feminist talking point. The “chaser” label gets added when the person being objectified is marked as deviant in some way. But it’s def not just cishet men who are capable of it.
Ok I went and looked it up, the original question in the screenshot was about specifically dating and specifically trans men. Not a one night stand, and not someone who likes being a woman

It’ll probably be done with an overlay/prompt for the user to click on (Unless the advertiser is paying for exposure and not direct traffic idk). But such a popup would provide a hook for a patched version of yt-dl to detect the ad and trim it out of the final video.
Also, shouldn’t a forum signature at all should be enough to screw with AI scrapers? No need to link to anything specific

That’s not the criteria, the criteria is whoever is the loudest in criticizing the status quo. And the far right is the loudest
The far right would make everyone poorer but wouldn’t change the class structure, so they are allowed to exist while the left gets suppressed. See for example how many of the titans of industry in west germany who supported the Nazis got off scot free (or with much commuted sentences) and got to keep their assets. The system works :)
What do you mean nobody controls the information? We’re sitting here talking on lemmy, but most people (or at least most vooters) get their information from capital intensive sources controlled by the ruling class. Television is captured and subject to manipulation, mainstream “algorithmic” social media is captured and subject to manipulation, independent (local) print media is dead. I get really depressed when I think about it

I fully support it but afaik it doesn’t happen in the us as much due to being illegal since 1947. However sometimes laws are just plain unjust and deserve to be broken.
McCarthyism/anticommunism really did a number on this country that we really need a proper reckoning for. the elites will do everything possible to prevent that but it needs to happen.
Do you mean that oopsie with the USS Liberty? That kind of thing happens occasionally but cooler heads prevail as long as everyone communicates. There was also an incident when a Turkish f-16 (Turkey being a NATO member) shot down a Russian su-24, but nobody went to war over it.
Yes I’m just saying that if the sides (even if they are enemies like Russia/NATO) are not interested in going to war, they will tolerate isolated incidents. even with casualties. This isn’t something unique to the america-israel relationship
NATO allies are inching closer to sending troops into Ukraine to train Ukrainian forces, a move that would be another blurring of a previous red line and could draw the United States and Europe more directly into the war....
Ok wtf. How are you supposed to even enforce that, nevermind that there seems to be no enforcement mechanism for anything in the treaty, but economic coercion is just an inherent part of relations under capitalism.
Do what the article says, Make like Russia in LDNR and send in “volunteers on leave” to help out the Ukrainians. The breakaway republics would never have held out this long without Russian volunteers.
Ukraine’s troops withdrew from several areas of the country’s north-east amid mounting pressure from a new Russian offensive, as the president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, postponed all foreign trips underscoring the seriousness of the threat....
The way i remember it, in mid-late 2022 there was bipartisan support in Congress for sending more and more advanced arms but the Biden admin slow-rolled it because of escalation fears.

Seeing as we still have capitalism and racism I wouldn’t quite say it worked, but yeah it made people take them more seriously and we would do well to study how exactly it failed
I mean the high quality paid games are still around, and I’m reasonably sure new ones are still being made. They’re not a lost art, just not as popular as free games
That’s just the wages of living in a huge postmodernist society that produces a vast amount of media. We no longer have centralized institutions (or rather they’re losing relative importance) so you have to go looking through the depths of either recommendation algorithms or topical forums
Democrat elections are basically a hostage situation (it votes for biden when it’s told or else it gets the trump again). If biden refuses to budge on the critical issues, at some point you have to start executing hostages.
No it is the Dems holding the country hostage. They pretend to care but they’re using the lack of a real alternative to hold themselves to extremely low standards AND RESIST ANY CALLS FROM THEIR OWN VOTER BASE TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOR- “I mean, have you seen the other guys?” should not be a valid operating principle!
You’re not getting it. The point is that the Dems keep betraying their own base and refusing to change for the better- they’re unresponsive to feedback. This doesn’t mean trump deserves to win, it just means the Biden needs to go. “I’m only 99% fascist” is not something I will condone ever, and I don’t think you should either. Show some spine! Support the students protesting against the “democratic” Biden regime and the genocide it’s providing diplomatic and military aid for. There has to be a red line somewhere and in my opinion we’ve passed it.
idk what to tell you either, he could be the second coming and it still wouldn’t give him a pass to unconditionally support a country while it’s carrying out a genocide. That’s not how it works
Baku (AFP) – When Russian troops deployed to Nagorno-Karabakh four years ago, their task was clear: keep the peace between bitter foes Armenia and Azerbaijan and prevent another war in the volatile region....
Yes and it’s fucked up that wannabe dictator erdogan was able to use NATO accession to force Sweden to hand over Kurdish “terrorist” activists they were sheltering. As an American our support for the kurds is one of the few military involvements I am sort of proud of
Same for Azerbaijan, aliyev is a dictator who will keep attacking Armenia to “defend azeri enclaves stranded in hostile territory”, but in reality he just thinks he deserves the whole thing because armenia is not a real nation and would be better off run by Azerbaijan. Just like Hitler with his volksdeutch and Putin with his persecuted Russian minorities in the near abroad. To quote the mayor of baku during a visit to Germany, ‘‘Our goal is the complete elimination of Armenians. You, Nazis, already eliminated the Jews in the 1930s and 40s, right? You should be able to understand us.’’ www.govinfo.gov/content/…/CHRG-110hhrg43066.pdf
The only reason Armenia allied with Russia is because the EU was horny for energy trade with Azerbaijan and armenia had nowhere else to go, they have a somewhat uniquely unfortunate geopolitical situation. However Putin just kinda hates democracy so he started slowly withdrawing support after the Armenian revolution
Meanwhile turko-azeri relations are about the friendliest you can get without actually merging :) they both really love genociding armenians what can I say.
Uhh no it isn’t? What the fuck? The very fact of a war is a foreign policy disaster if you care about the well being of Europe at all. God I hate America sometimes
The trouble is, the material taps haven’t turned off they’ve been rerouted. Apparently enforcing sanctions is hard and more importantly also pisses off your donor base consisting of amoral business types. You can find any number of articles of Ukrainian complaining (even years into the war) that they find western electronics in downed Russian missiles.
40 years ago maybe, but afaik after 20 years of Iraq and Afghanistan the us army has shifted quite far into focusing on counterinsurgency and away from fighting vs mass armor and artillery
