Well ACC works on linux, including VR, using proton. This probably will to unless it is using some form of broken copy protection.

It isn’t as simple as just compiling. Large programs like games then need to be tested to make sure the code doesn’t have bugs on ARM. Developers often use assembly to optimize performance, so those portions would need to be rewritten as well. And Apple has been the only large install of performant ARM consumer hardware on anything laptop or desktop windows. So, there hasn’t been a strong install base to even encourage many developers to port their stuff to windows on ARM.

Until risc-v is at least as performant as top of the line 2 year old hardware it isn’t going to be of interest to most end users. Right now it is mostly hobbyist hardware.

I also think a lot of trust if being put into it that is going to be misplaced. Just because the ISA is open doesn’t mean anything about the developed hardware.

On my system with raid0 dual pcie4.0 nvme drives, most of the time is spent decompressing and processing the data. There is always going to be a bottleneck somewhere, whether it is the drive, cpu, gpu etc.

That is my understanding. Additionally I have seen no evidence that it is actually enforced either. You could get Ghost of Tsushima for $59.99 on steam and for like $51.xx on another site using keys. Same happened with forbidden west.

I could see developers using both the NVK and M1 drivers depending on which best suits their needs for hardware similarity. It is also interesting that both are not super opensource friendly hardware manufacturers. Good hardware, less so on openness.

Is it even legal in the EU for a company to allow sales in one part, but not another? Do they actively clock PS(4/5) devices from being activated in parts of the EU?

I’d think this would be illegal, but I am not from the EU.

I really have enjoyed this game. A couple things I wish it had was proper wheel controller support and a VR mode for driving around night city would be pretty cool.

Hadn’t heard of a-shell. On my iPad I occasionally use iSH for bittorent, among other uses. I do agree it is on the slower side, but that is in part because of Apple’s rules about JITs and this forces iSH to use an interpreter. I do think an interpreter of ARM ISA would potentially be faster as the ISA is fixed width and x86 is not, but I don’t know if that would be margin of error faster or not.

Yeah. Only systems that can be interpreted in real time are viable. Not sure how recent we are talking either. On top of that, interpretation will be inherently worse on battery life.

Of course they did. Don’t change it after release. In the future with a game like this they should make the singleplayer side part of the base game and move the multiplayer to a free “DLC” and just not offer that “DLC” where psn isn’t available if that is going to be a thing.

OBVIOUSLY it would be better to not have that requirement at all.

Not sure what the hell they are thinking. Also wonder how much money was refunded. Doesn’t even get into the number of buyers they are excluding.

Same here. With the exception of the explicit sync, which will hopefully be resolved this week, I have been running Plasma 6 wayland since February. And honestly when I tried the X11 version it had more issues.

Enabling Tap-to-click in SDDM Wayland (Fedora 40 Sway)? (SOLVED)

Essentially as the title says, I’m running SDDM with the Wayland backend on Fedora 40 Sway edition and I want to enable tap-to-click for my touchpad. Any ideas on how I can do that? I tried doing it in the xorf config but then I realised the x server isn’t even installed so SDDM is actually running on Wayland, and I don’t...

SDDM uses kwin_wayland. Plasma store the setting for that in $(HOME)/.config/kcminputrc I believe that is used by a different part that is not used by SDDM. Best suggestion is to submit a feature request. Having proper input support would go along with power management as a needed feature for SDDM on wayland.

Either way you’d have to look at the compositor as that is what handles input. I haven’t used Weston, so I don’t know where to start.

Auto kill memory leaking processes before swap death loop

I’m using linux mint 21.3, and a process (brave aka chrome) sometimes memory leaking, so eats all the RAM, and then linux goes into swap death loop, when everything freezes (sometimes the mouse cursor is moving), and nothing can’t be done, i can just see the HDD led blinking, and do a reset. Not sure if your distro version has a new enough version of systemd, but newer versions have a systemd-oomd service for that. It may not be enabled by default. On older versions you could try early-oom which is not part of systemd. OOM stands for Out-Of-Memory.

Try adding to the fstab options uid=#### with the #### replaced with the user id you are using. If you are using more users other options may be needed.

Edit: also check ‘man mount.cifs’ for other options.

At this point I think they may want to hold off on releases for a while. They could do development, but wait til sometime after the Switch 2 is out to publish the code and executables. Allow things to settle down a bit.

I am interested in this as well. I currently have an iPad Pro and while I won’t be upgrading right now, I have been looking in the space for the future. I’d prefer something more powerful than and M1/M2 iPad to even consider switching. I haven’t seen much in the tablet space that is not Apple orAndroid, but while being performant. I saw that Minisforum has announced the V3, but it isn’t out yet. Has an AMD 8840u, 14" 165hz display. Looks promising, but I’d be worried about battery life.

Most of the handheld benchmarks have been 3% or 4% higher compared to the Steamdeck at 15 watts, which often is a 1 to 4 FPS difference. This would explain why Valve isn’t in a hurry for a Steamdeck 2. If you plan of playing on battery, then that is what you’ll probably running around that if you plan on playing a while. The main advantage of these newer chips is when used plugged in.

Are there any CPUs that work well with Linux that aren't made by Intel or another company on the BDS list/that supports Israel?

I have has zen2 and zen3 systems and haven’t run in to that either. So Zen2+ systems should be mostly fine.

If you get an M1 or M2 mac it should mostly work. If you need thunderbolt(WIP) or vulkan(WIP) then you will have to wait. Otherwise accelerated desktops work and audio is working now. Honestly if you compare performance to competing systems, they end up pretty similar in pricing.

Plasma 6(arch) is pretty excellent. There is the bug mentioned in other comments with Xwayland that won’t be (fully) fixed until the Explicit sync wayland protocol is finalized and implemented, but that should apply to any wayland compositor.

As to wayland vs x11, if you want to game or anything else that is only X11, use X11, otherwise most everything else can be use wayland.

From what I garnered this is revenue, not profit. Also comparing the companies to Apple, FB & Microsoft is not really a fair comparison. I know it was the Valve employees doing this. Probably a better choice would have been something like a restaurant chain or store like Walmart.

I think that is debris. I tried using some 3-in-1 oil on 3 of mine and they work fine now. There is probably a better choice of lubricant though

From what you have commented I would lean toward either a power issue or a pcie signaling issue. Are you running any kind of overclock? You could try underclocking and see if that stabilizes it as it won’t draw as much power.

I’d do some compute tests on a usb live system. Something like y-cruncher for instance. Could be all kinds of things. Power supply could be flaky, gpu, cpu,motherboard, storage. best suggestion is process of elimination.

Try using it with a gui and see if you can crash it if you don’t have alternatives for example. Check the storage’s smart health. Check dmesg. Ssh in when a crash happens if possible.
