So, when are you getting involved into politics and changing things? I swear, some of you make it sound like you know better than all of our political leaders throughout history… it makes you wonder, with all these leaders making these “horrible” decisions, why is the US still one of the strongest countries in the world, and people are risking their lives to get here?
I’m just trying to offer a different opinion. This site (like Reddit) is 99% Left leaning. I like to voice my opinion as someone who leans more Right. Or, should Lemmy only be for people on the Left? Should Lemmy only be for people who vote Democrat, have liberal views, and support Biden?
It’s funny how the Left looks at the rich and power as the enemy… when in fact, the vast majority of them in this country are Democrats… all of Hollywood and the entertainment industry like to say “we’re just like you!” and the Left eats it up…
So, are you suggesting people just keep voting the way they do, and nothing changes? I mean, we’re dealing with the same shit in California. The Left literally does not want to do shit about the homeless crisis. The Right wants forced intervention… and of course, we can’t have that, so we’re going in circles. Nothing is getting done with Democrats in power, they literally believe the homeless issue is okay.
What? Where do you live? I live in near a big city in California, crime is out of control There’s no consequences for many street level crimes now, especially retail theft. I have personally seen people run into stores, grab stuff and run…while employees are just hiding, scared. They call the cops, who won’t come because they’re backed up with more “severe” crime in the city… so, it continues, and continues. Who’s to blame? The cops, who are already stretched thin? The homeless, because hey, they need to eat too! I mean, it’s nuts…I feel like I live in a third world country sometimes…
I’m glad that crime is down, overall, but it effects people differently depending where they live. I live in California, and drive for a living…traveling to Northern and Southern California often… while some violent crime is down, things like car break-ins, retail theft, petty burglary, and hate crimes have not really changed. Again, people will only react to what they have personally experienced. I was in San Francisco last week… it’s still a shit show. Homeless using drugs, crazy people walking around threatening everyone, theft… nothing has changed.
Force those that are homeless, who clearly have mental issues, to live in an adult care facility where they can :
A) Get treatment for drugs/alcohol
B) Get treatment for mental issues.
Have them go through a process to get better, if it doesn’t help, they don’t leave.
This is what needs to be done in order to get most of these people off the streets. But, it’s considered “cruel” and “unusual” by Democrats, so, nothing gets done. We’ll never break the homeless issue problem in California with Democrats/Liberals in leadership, that’s a fact.
I think you have it backwards. Social programs don’t help, because that takes an effort by the individual to get involved and be part of something. Most criminals and people who are going to commit crime, are not going to get involved in a social program. I don’t know how old you are, but when I was younger, I was absolutely afraid to steal because I didn’t want to go to jail. It seems nowadays, that fear isn’t there. I would argue more police presence is what a country like the United States needs. People forget just how big, and how many freedoms we have. Hoping that all these people, from all different walks of life and backgrounds, follow all the same laws, isn’t going to cut it. We need strict laws, more police, so that people know that crime, no matter the level, is not tolerated anywhere in the United States. I want to live in a country where people are afraid to break the law. I know that sounds crazy…

The reason the “far right” is gaining momentum around the world because of immigration issues. It has nothing to do with “racism” and “bigotry”, like people on Lemmy and Reddit claim. The Left and Liberals are too concern with helping everyone else, and not their own. Countries are abandoning traditional goals and support for their own citizens, and focusing on helping poor immigrants from all over the place. Sooner or later, your own citizens are going to get fed up.
The Far Right movement is gaining momentum because many of their own people are getting tired of the “immigrants are more important” mindset their country is creating. Many of France’s own people are getting ignored, so that the political parties in charge can focus on helping poor immigrants from other countries. Well, France’s own citizens are getting tired of this, and have started to vote in more people who have a “French People First” mentality (similar to what Trump wanted to do, and everyone called him a racist for being “America First”). So, the party RN (National Rally) wins and now their going to get rid of all the current members in Parliament, and have a new vote to get people in. I think that’s what it means?
This argument is old and tiresome. It’s the same shit they try and say in the US. “hey, who cares about the immigrant problem, let’s go after the rich!” This isn’t about the rich, this is about who’s the problem for the average, middle class citizen NOW. This is about, why are things different NOW, and what can I do to change them? Many countries are bringing in immigrants as a curtisoy, to help those in need…but it’s effecting a class of citizens differently, and now those citizens are voicing concern. The rich will always be here, and that issue will always go in circles because the rich are helping many countries sustain an economy (we always want to attack the rich in the US, but in the end, what would happen if the rich stopped paying anything, and just left?). The argument of “it’s the rich people’s fault!” has been a battling call from the Left for 100’s of years…and they will always default to this, even when it’s clear that immigration is causing problems…
So, what do you suggest countries do? Allow anyone and everyone to come in, and government should instead spend all their time and resources going after the wealthy? Are you saying, that if the rich stopped having money, and just…disappeared, everyone would be better off?

It’s crazy how every country and Earth is allowed to have immigration laws and policies in place, except the US…for some reason, it’s so controversial.
Because most countries are not like the US. The US is one of the most sought after countries in the world to live in, while also being one of the most hated by countries all over the world. My safety is important, I don’t want some dude to just come in and decide to blow himself up in the middle of LA.

Everyone is in favor of legal immigration, that’s never been the issue for any Republican. It’s those who have entered here illegally, and/or are still here illegally, that has become an issue.

I’m half Mexican. Our whole lives, we’re told we MUST vote Democrat because we’re “minorities.” Growing up in Southern California, I remember, literally, being taught that we were NOT good enough to be Republicans. “Democrats are the poor people, Republicans are the rich people…” I remember my 6th grade teacher telling me this. As I got older and started thinking for myself, I realized that I can vote any way I want. It’s the Democrats that told me I couldn’t. I think more and more Latinos are starting to realize that they CAN vote Republican, and that they ARE good enough…many Latinos have very conservative views (due to Catholicism) yet, they were told they can’t vote Republican…
Kind of like how the Left intentionally tries to say Republicans are fascists? Also, the Right doesn’t have to say anything to convince Latinos that the Democrat Party isn’t the party for them…you’re assuming minorities and immigrants can’t think for themselves…
I’m 2nd generation and I disagree. My family tends to vote Republican because of their strong Catholic beliefs. My grandparents are good people, they’ve lived here for almost their entire lives (came from Mexico when they were young) and have always voted Republican because they believe the Republicans do more to protect religion. They’re not “uneducated” or “easily manipulated.” They simply think that the Left wants to take away things they have always felt very strong about, which is family and religion.
Basically, BLM had the attitude of “if you’re not with us, you’re a racist.” And that was just way too extreme. Many people, including Latinos, just didn’t care, or didn’t want to get involved. When BLM started looting and burning down things in their neighborhoods, they became more angry and didn’t care even more. However, they were lumped together with everyone else as “racists” or “bigots” if they didn’t want to march hand in hand with blacks.
I grew up in Southern California, in the 90’s during peak gang culture. It wasn’t about being “cool,” it was literally about two entirely different types of cultures that hated each other. My Mexican family blamed a lot of crime and issues in their neighborhoods on blacks, and vice versa. I went to a school that had gang fights every day, blacks hated Mexicans and Mexicans hated blacks. That’s why they even go their separate ways in prison. It wasn’t about being cool, it was about survival. And that mentality is generational. My uncles fought with blacks on the streets of Southern California, and now, my cousins are doing the same. I also don’t think it’s the “system.” It was literally stupid territory differences. It had nothing to with any kind of system, it was more about you stay where you’re at and take care of your people, and we’ll do the same…
Democrats are no better. I mean, I grew up being told I’m deprived because I’m a minority, and that I should vote Democrat because of this reason. I remember literally being told by a teacher in 5th grade that I HAVE to vote Democrat because I’m Mexican. Democrats have done an excellent job manipulating minorities into thinking that they can only vote one way…
I’m half Mexican half white… growing up, the only racism I ever experienced was by other Mexicans at my schools because they were farm workers, poor, and saw me as a “half breed” wannabe. My parents didn’t work in the fields, and we lived in a nice side of town (this was when California was bussing in kids from other areas into poorer areas…). My dad busted his ass, went to trade school and got a good job when we were kids, same with my mother. However, I was picked on for looking white and having a white mother. At my schools, all our teachers would talk about how wonderful Democrats were, while constantly bashing Republican leaders. My experience is much more different than what the democrats would have you believe.
That’s cool, cause I’m not a Republican…and I didn’t once say I was voting for Trump…but keep assuming and generalizing, that’s what the Left does best!

I’m registered independent, but I tend to vote more Republican because the Democrats have gone crazy. I live in an area of California where homelessness, crime, and drugs are rampant. Literally, in my line of work, we see theft, drugs, and crime every day, with little to no repercussions…it’s the same people doing the same shit. And what do liberals and Democrats say every single FUCKING time? “It’s not their fault!”. Nothing gets done. As soon as someone is arrested, they’re let out and right back at it. It’s getting tiresome. I’m so burnt out, I work hard, 2 jobs, and these people break the law every day, and no one seems to care. Even the police have told me their hands are tied because in most cases, the DA will not do anything for “petty” stuff. Well, it’s not petty to me, and many like me who work hard and just want to live in a safer environment. I, like many others in my area, blame our liberal/Democrat political leaders. I know the Republican Party is field with horrible shit, I get that, but at this point, I just want a normal life without worrying about a homeless drug addict trying to stab me. So, the only thing I can do is to stop voting for the people that are allowing this kind of stuff, which are MOSTLY Democrats.
