eestileib,

Can we please stop giving this insane bloodthirsty man and his sidekicks weapons and intelligence support?

eestileib,

Netanyahu is an OG Trump ally. He is going to try to screw Biden any way he can.

eestileib,

“But he says he’d cut my taxes 5% so I’m giving him $100 million in dark money,” they continued.

eestileib,

I wish your faith in the oligarch class was justified.

eestileib,

motherjones.com/…/rich-top-100-campaign-donors-le…

… the lion’s share of confirmed contributions from the biggest political givers—the top 100 families—have flowed to Republican candidates and groups.

In the “hard money” category—direct donations to candidates, which federal law caps at modest sums—Republicans took in 27 percent more from the Top 100 families than Democrats did ($85.9 million vs. $67.9 million).

But looking at all federal contributions, including “soft money,” a category that tallies the generous donations allowed to party committees and the unrestricted contributions to SuperPACs, Republicans raked in a whopping $508 million from the Top 100—triple the Democrats’ $169 million take.

eestileib,

People were cosplaying Junge Werther in the 1800s, it’s just a thing people do.

eestileib,

Countless examples? I can’t name ten.

eestileib,

Cornell is a religiously-affiliated school, I wonder if they were doing a little cheeky proselytizing.

eestileib,

I would have been so into this at that age. Hell yeah.

eestileib,

The equivalent of baseball’s scoreless inning is called a “maiden over” in cricket.

Blinken to push cease-fire proposal in eighth urgent Mideast trip since war in Gaza erupted (apnews.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Antony Blinken will push for a breakthrough on President Joe Biden’s cease-fire proposal when he returns to the Middle East next week on his eighth diplomatic mission to the region since the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza began in October, the State Department said Friday....

eestileib,

I can already tell you the content of next week’s headline : “Israel tells Blinken to go get stuffed, Biden apologizes for his impertinence and sends more weapons”

eestileib,

And what makes you think he won’t just back pedal again as soon as Hamas gets onside?

He wants Biden to lose in November, and he wants a forever war so he won’t have to leave office. Playing ball on a ceasefire hurts both of those goals.

And he knows that the current generation of US leadership will fully support Israel literally no matter what.

If I were Netanyahu I would be sabotaging the process too.

eestileib,

I don’t see that happening; like I said I think Israel gets their weapons no matter what they do with this generation of leaders. Even if Biden has the legal authority, he has made it clear he does not have the inclination.

I think the comp here is Republicans with Trump; they will furrow their brows and say that “if he does X it will be too far”, then immediately fall in line after X happens.

When the people who are now, say, 35 or 40 are in office, things might be different.

eestileib,

I’ve heard it’s like a 2% change? That’s within the margin of error of most polls.

It’s noise. Random fluctuation.

eestileib,

Only one of them was a recontact poll, which they don’t even report a margin of error for.

That one at least produced some interpretable anecdata, to wit: very few people changed their mind.

It’ll take months of pounding away at it to reach most people, if it does at all.

eestileib,

She’s made fucking BANK from insider trading, she’s good.

eestileib,

Definitely not the case for women and queer people this year, but generally true.

eestileib,

Shockingly they didn’t nominate the guy on trial for felonies involving abuse of his office! What’s up with these dudes?

eestileib,

They will still vote for him. They’re Republicans for a reason.

eestileib,

I’ve seen my parents abandon all the values they once claimed to have to follow that man. I don’t have much respect for his followers’ ability to snap out of it.

Hope I’m wrong.

eestileib,

If you think Biden will ever cut off Netanyahu or the IDF I think you’ve got a lot of disappointment in your future.

eestileib,

Republicans will try to impeach him regardless, that’s kind of irrelevant.

eestileib,

Whether there is a law against settlements is irrelevant. Every Israeli government expands settlements, they’re not going to stop because they know the US will always support them.

Netanyahu in particular is not constrained by the idea of the rule of law.

eestileib,

I never want to work at a place that takes pair programming that seriously.

eestileib,

In the article, the two interviewed experts who got the most paragraphs said there’s zero chance, making arguments based on precedent.

One interviewed expert said he expects multiple years in prison based on an emotional appeal.

We see which one got the headline though.

eestileib,

I don’t think most people think he would be imprisoned pending appeal, and his lawyers will easily drag out the appeal into 2025.

eestileib,

Yeah but nobody gets prison time for this as a first offender in NY, it’s not going to happen.

If the classified documents case had an actual judge running it, that’s the one that could lead directly to prison.

eestileib,

See that part where it says “except that this subdivision does not apply where the intermediate appellate court has (a) extended the time for argument or submission of the appeal…” ?

Courts postpone hearings and grant additional time for stuff a lot, and courts are particularly eager to give Trump far more leeway than anybody else.

eestileib,

looks up

shakes head

goes back to Balatro

eestileib,

The credibility of the federal judiciary is already gone.

eestileib,

She got lucky because the Secretary of State was specifically carved out of the data management rules. That loophole has since been closed.

eestileib,

The Supreme Court may well just decide that Trump has absolute immunity, depending on what their pay masters tell them to do.

eestileib,

It wasn’t standard operating procedure, she rejected all the stuff the it staff wanted to set up for her. If it had been any other employee of the state department at the time it would have been criminal, and it would be illegal for the SoS today. She also obstructed the investigation.

And it cost her, and the country. It’s probably right she didn’t face charges, but it was still a serious and irresponsible fuckup.

There are levels to these things, and the mar-a-lago shit is obviously exponentially worse.

eestileib,

In California sentences of up to 12 weeks are served in a jail.

eestileib,

Once again, Betteridge’s law applies perfectly.

'Confused' Judge Cannon needed concept explained 'slowly' to her in court by lawyers: NYT (www.rawstory.com)

As part of an analysis of how U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen Cannon, reports from her courtroom show a judge who is both “prickly” and" insecure" and often has trouble understanding what lawyers from both sides try to explain to her....

eestileib,

She’s gonna be on SCOTUS within a decade.

eestileib,

You have it backwards, Biden is the lapdog, not Netanyahu.

eestileib,

But she made it very clear that she’s a Christian! I don’t understand how this happened, did they not hear?

eestileib,

Hell the trial probably won’t even happen, this judge and the Georgia Supreme Court are only starting to throw sand in the engine.

eestileib, (edited )

This is the best current demonstration of The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in Describing Reality.

eestileib,

Yeah my understanding is that this crime pretty universally leads to a fine and limitation of business activities, not prison time.

eestileib,

You honestly think Trump would face perjury charges?

eestileib,

I feel stupid for reading any of these articles or commenting on them. We all know this movie ends with him getting away with it, but it’s still compelling compelling for some stupid reason.
