xep,

"Moral responsibility" isn't going to affect the various amoral, systemic causes of the climate crisis.

xep,

It's quite a lot more than that if you count all the titles that work but aren't verified, I imagine!

xep,

Could it be the next Stranding type game?!

xep,

My favourite journalistic practice is when outlets lump up everyone playing video games into a single group called "gamers."

xep,

Don't be silly, for these types of people you can never make enough money.

xep,

I don't think anyone would've complained if the localization's quality was on-par with AA or Vagrant Story, but it looks to me like that isn't the case.

xep,

What makes an anticheat a rootkit? Rootkits are malicious and don't generally come with EULAs and uninstallers.

xep,

The Arc cards are the most price efficient graphics cards now, that's hardly garbage.

xep,

Probably because "installing unsigned code from an unknown source" is a mouthful. Installing implicitly means "from within the walled garden" on these devices.

xep,

Takes a bit of getting used to, but Earth Defense Force 4.1 or 5.

Valve needs to step up on Anti-Cheat

So yeah, I want to discuss or point out why I think Valve needs to fix Anti-Cheat issues. They have VAC but apparently its doing jackshit, be it Counter Strike 2 (any previous iterations) or something like Hunt: Showdown the prevalence of cheating players is non deniable. For me personally it has come to a point that I am not...

xep,

Why do you call anti-cheat software rootkits? Rootkits are malicious.

xep,

Yes. It's a matter of knowing what you trust on your pc and understanding your threat model. Programs running in user mode can also be malicious.

xep,

How would a server-only method detect esp or wallhacks, which are generally speaking client-only exploits?

xep,

It's cat and mouse when it comes to banning, even with hwid signatures the cheaters are able to use sophisticated spoofing techniques. Also there are side effects like legitimate players buying second hand pcs that have been banned.

xep,

Giving cheat authors instant feedback in terms of detection results in cheats getting better at evading detection more quickly.

xep,

Some fighting games let you filter games by connection and even connection type (wifi warriors you should be ashamed), but the primary matchmaking is skill based, and that still seems to work.

xep, (edited )

Some games don't sell well but go on to become cult classics, so if it was just bad timing maybe Immortals of Aveum will too.

xep,

A game that receives updates in a regular manner. There is an expectation that players support these updates by buying things, and to encourage this live service games tend to have things that try to be habit-forming or are available for limited periods of time, such as battlepasses.

xep,

The cunning thing is that the preview doesn't really change the random boxes. You still don't know what's in the next one.

xep,

When I was playing it MHW would run a constant CRC check over some parts of memory that degraded performance considerably. Did they remove that? If not it'll probably use up battery power like crazy too.

xep,

Isn't Genshin Impact also a gacha game?

xep,

I'm absolutely convinced that everyone who professes their love for some flavour of mechanical switch keyboard is someone who hasn't tried Topre / electrostatic-capacitive switches yet.

Love your collection.

Steam’s latest hit is a generic F2P co-op third-person shooter – but not the one that launched last week (www.vg247.com)

The First Descendant, whose open cross-play beta is currently enjoying a healthy spot on Steam's most played games list. At the time of this writing, The First Descendant has over 77,591 concurrent players, and that figure continues to rise. It's easy to imagine it landing into the top 10 by the end of the day....

xep,

I understand Nexon, and F2P, and all that, but having played this in Closed Beta I found it to be a really enjoyable game. Hopefully they don't mar it with overaggressive monetization.

xep,

Epos make a couple of USB DAC/AMPs too, and the GSX 1000 is apparently reasonably well received. Haven't used one personally but it shows up on my Amazon recommendations occasionally.

Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

xep,

It might be tolerance, this is true for me now for almost all turn based RPGs.
