Justice delayed is justice denied.

FunderPants,

They delayed releasing the decision long enough to ensure the lower court couldn’t consider it while there was time. Everything the supreme Court has done is to Trumps benefit because they’re true believers setting up a kingdom for him.

postmateDumbass, to politics in Trump sentencing date in hush money case postponed more than two months to Sept. 18

One week too late, don’t ruin 2 days in september.

Delay, delay, delay.

Yeah he was convicted, but when it comes to actual punishment it is just more delays.

Nightwingdragon,

And pretty soon, there won’t be a conviction. As written, the Supreme Court ruling invalidates some of the evidence that was used against him, which invalidates the conviction. The guy’s going to get away with the whole god damned thing, and there’s a very real chance he’s going to get a 4 year victory lap as well.

May you find solace wherever you seek it, because we’re all gonna need a lot of it pretty damn soon.

Darorad,

We’ll be lucky if it’s just 4 years now

SuiXi3D,
@SuiXi3D@fedia.io avatar

So how long before someone just shoots him?

Darorad,

Secret service makes that pretty hard

Kecessa,

Something something second amendment, right guys? Looking from the outside in it’s so fun to be proven right, the second amendment is worth fuck dick and it’s just a way for insecure people to feel like they’ve got big balls/ovaries by being able to own a gun.

Deello,

I don’t care how long it is. He is only the beginning. I am more worried about what comes next.

krashmo,

Well at least so far the Trump clones haven’t been able to gain any meaningful support. Of course one could argue that’s only because Trump himself is still hanging around, but it does show that for whatever reason others are having difficulty gathering and maintaining support using his tactics.

Darorad,

Yeah, Fascism isn’t great at surviving long term, the problem is how much damage it can do while it is in control.

They value the in group more than being correct, so it’s really hard for them to pass between leaders. Not to say it’s impossible, but historically it hasn’t worked well.

Riccosuave,
@Riccosuave@lemmy.world avatar

It is more than just a chance. The aggregate Vegas odds have a Joe Biden victory at +430. They literally think Donald Trump wins this election more than 4/5 of the time. We’re completely fucked.

Tilgare, to politics in Trump sentencing date in hush money case postponed more than two months to Sept. 18

The judge agreed to TWO WEEKS in reporting I saw this morning. Now it’s two months. SOMEBODY PLEASE hold this motherfucker accountable for his actions. Just once in his whole life.

FunderPants, to politics in Trump sentencing date in hush money case postponed more than two months to Sept. 18

I’d say unbelievable but honestly this is just about as bad as I figured it would be when Trump won in 2016, so I beleive it.

When a game show host with a history of fraud and lying becomes president, it’s not a good sign for the health of a democracy.

Apothenon1, to politics in Supreme Court releases ruling on Trump immunity in election case

Well, fellow Americans. This experiment with democracy was fun while it lasted. Every significant goal of the founding fathers has been systematically thwarted by these Christofascists. We once again have a de-facto monarch.

The consequences of this decision will be dire, and unpredictable. Every law, every right, every freedom can now be undone by an official wave of the president’s hand. Rights to privacy? Gone. Due process? Gone. Bill of Rights? Gone.

No one—democrat or republican—should be happy about this. The right to bear arms is now on the chopping block right along with LGBTQ+ and abortion rights.

Hopefully I’m wrong. Hopefully I’m misreading the situation. But it sure sounds like every right that previously defined us as American people now hinges on the benevolence of our president. Americans can no longer brag about “American freedom.”

goferking0, to politics in Biden student loan repayment plan to resume amid legal challenges, federal appeals court rules

It’s sad how they call SAVE one of his biggest wins while he gets to be the one who has student loans restarting

prole, (edited )

There’s enough to be upset with Biden about, the failure of his student loan forgiveness plan isn’t one of them. Even after being shot down by the Supreme Court, his administration has continued to forgive millions billions in debt through various other means.

They really have been trying to get it done. He’s not the one you should be criticizing for this…

Edit: fixed

goferking0,

There’s much more he could be doing than the bare minimum like using current laws to forgive what should have been forgiven years ago.

For the one supreme court struck down he still hasn’t used any of the powers he has to still do forgiveness.

So yes we can be pissed at him for not doing anything and allowing them to restart loans.

mosiacmango,

his administration has continued to forgive millions in debt through various other means.

Hundreds of billions of debt forgiven. 167 billion and counting.

Millions is technically correct, doesnt give the right scope of just how much his admin has helped people.

Sanctus, to politics in Supreme Court releases ruling on Trump immunity in election case
@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

This is fucking terrible news. One man, above the law, indivisible. With liberty and justice for himself.

Fuck the SCOTUS. Its past time we removed them.

Delusional,

Good thing that they just told everyone the president has immunity to do whatever. Biden can remove corrupt supreme court officials in the name of saving democracy. Hell he could even have them put to death by guillotine on the steps of the capital and it’ll be alright because they just said the president could do that. And since they are very clearly a threat to our democracy, he would be in the right.

MeekerThanBeaker,

That’s why they ruled the way they did because they know Democrats won’t ever do that.

Omega_Man, to politics in Supreme Court releases ruling on Trump immunity in election case

How can an illegall act be an official act? Isn’t this basically saying that if the president does it, it’s not illegal? They’re speaking out of both sides of their mouths.

ghostdoggtv,

He managed to cultivate a terrorist base because they’re white and SCOTUS is terrified of what they’ll do if they cut out Trump’s paths to power.

eran_morad,

Bruh. They’re part of his terrorist base.

eran_morad,

Just standard republican shit. They’re all worthless filth.

Buffalox,

Yep, they are confusing the issue on purpose, because the goal is to draw out time, to try to get Trump elected.

cheese_greater, to politics in Biden student loan repayment plan to resume amid legal challenges, federal appeals court rules

Let them enforce the rescission, their gutting of the IRS should cut both ways

Its interesting how their repeal of Chevron would add this power to their repertoire to selectively enforce for different audiences

Methinks the Judiciary has overstepped its checks and balances

UnpopularCrow,

I concur. The judicial system in the US has always been the OP’d branch of government. That’s why it is so infuriating to me that it is chosen by a party candidate rather than a bipartisan group of experts. I’ll never understand that logic (outside corruption of course).

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

Student loan debt is not paid to the IRS / Department of Treasury. The Dept. of Education is responsible.

cheese_greater,

They want to gut that too so I same rodeo, different rancher?

TimLovesTech, to politics in 'Black jobs'? Trump draws pushback after anti-immigration rant
@TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social avatar

He also followed that up with a line about immigrants coming after Hispanic jobs. I don’t know how any “debate” can be taken seriously when a candidate can say shit like that and the immediate follow up question isn’t, “Mr. Trump, what is a Black or Hispanic job?”.

Blackmist,

Well that cotton won’t pick itself.

Boddhisatva, to politics in 'Black jobs'? Trump draws pushback after anti-immigration rant

This election cycle — when researchers have found Black voters are being heavily targeted by political disinformation — it is crucial to not turn “communities against one another,” Johnson said.

The only way republicans can win is by turning communities against one another. Finding wedge issues to turn groups of Americans against each other is the main tool in their tool box.

Coach,

What do you want from Republicans - a party that hasn’t stopped trying to eat each others’ faces throughout the past 3+ years? You want a platform? Ideas?

Oh wait…that’s Project 2025 and they would rather we steer clear of discussing that.

mojofrododojo,

any other election - when the party base suggests treason (proj 2025) - you’d think that would be the end. Why isn’t this every response to any undecided voter?

Clinicallydepressedpoochie,

That’s the deal with all the nonsensical lying Trump does.

You take a focus group, find out what upsets everyone most but also seems plausible or conforms to some bias. What ever that is you feed into the disinformation machine then Trump seeks it out and latches on to it.

Your welcome, you have the whole picture now.
