Good app thank you for the suggest! I hope they will add also the ability to mark read while scrolling. I’m used to read through Feedme app, but since it isn’t opensource this one could replace it at all!
I just wish it had a better name. Anything You just makes my brain feel like it hiccup’d trying to reread the sentence parsing it a second time as a name.
Newpipe doesn’t let you leave comments (which was the reason I personally switched to it – I used to spend too much time commenting like half of the stuff I watched, and I watched a lot) or login with a Google account;
newpipe doesn’t have sponsorblock (which is currently solved by using tubular; note that it may or may not become abandoned like previous attempts by other ppl);
newpipe lets you download video/audio (although, admittedly, having yt-dlp in termux is still more than handy for bulk downloads);
newpipe has better (imo) background playback: you can either play or enqueue both videos and playlists (note: I haven’t used yt app for a while, so mb it also can do similar stuff)
I checked it out, seems interesting but I still prefer Feeder. Mostly because I couldn’t get Read You to actually show text/images from a page, for instance XKCD.
So far, I like what I see. It’s a small application, but I’m trying to figure out how push notifications work. Since I do not have Google Play Services and how often it will check for new feed updates
Getting push notifications working on a vanilla ROM is a very tricky thing. Unless they made a workaround (which requires the app constantly staying in the background that devs don’t like apparently) it will not work properly. It’s not the app’s fault though
So far as I am able to tell, this app does not give me any kind of push notifications at all, even though it’s supposed to. So I might have to ditch it for now.
I do not find any option for push notifications, the app also is not trying to register using microg. I am not sure why it is supposed to give push notifications tbh.
I just had a look at the description to make sure I wasn’t crazy and yes it says right in the thing that article notifications are a thing but it is not registering with unified push and it is not manually checking every x minutes for notifications so I don’t see how it has them.
My well known non root smartphone hardening guide is based on the long term trustworthiness and capabilities of Invizible Pro (and NetGuard). I never recommend or touch projects that will go defunct unexpectedly, or have garbage persons developing behind it. Invizible is an amazing project which has had no equivalent for years now, FOSS or not. And it itself is FOSS, made out of other FOSS projects.
How would you rank it against rethink with wireguard ? Also if the tor connection for some reason suddenly stopped i heard the app doesn’t stop internet connection but just let you continue using your device without any protection including no firewall as they seem to need one other connection to run a firewall . Also how good’s the firewall itself compared to rethink does it block all system except the allowed apps ? I remember the firewall still letting me browse .
You must enable always-on VPN killswitch in Android VPN settings, and put Invizible in VPN or root mode, instead of proxy mode.
Rethink dev has spoken to me multiple times. He has made a very good app, even incorporated changes I recommended, but it can stop functioning at times abruptly, according to a fellow friend who tested it thoroughly. Invizible is more stable, so I am yet to change recommendation, since I recommend Invizible for heavier, hardcore setup and NetGuard for easier, relaxed setup. I am currently off of Invizible after 3ish years and daily drive testing NetGuard to see how well it is working.
Yep rethink dev is really responsive and it has kinda never stopped for me cause i put back up configs incase one goes down but still i have to trust the vpn provider which i kinda do but with tor i kinda don’t have to trust anyone which is tempting. And i did put it in vpn mode, the thing is i blocked my browser with invizible pro’s firewall but the browser still worked ?? which put me off but maybe i did it wrong ? I find invisible pro’s firewall too confusing for no reason like i woild just like it to be like in rethink’s . Maybe i should give it another try do you recommend i2p over tor incase one of them goes down or just tor ? I’m leaning towards just tor as maybe p2p will mess with Tor’s setup and cause privacy issues ? Anyway share your thoughts .
As a Tor user since over a decade, I do know that I think. What I also know is Firefox is not one bit safe for Tor usage. Use the official Tor Browser or TailsOS.
