Move over, Riker, here comes Monkee Chekov the lady killer!

EDIT: Hey! Did you ever see that episode where Chekov is transported to a reverse-Genesis planet and gets returned to Monkee?

Instructions unclear: the Monkees have been returned.

Intentionally done to make him look like Davey Jones of the Monkees.

Is this for real? I don’t doubt it. The resemblance is uncanny.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It’s very much for real.

Koenig revealed Chekov was supposed to resemble Jones. “The character was inspired by Davy Jones from The Monkees and for the first six or seven episodes I wore a wig — a woman’s wig for that matter and I wore that until my hair grew out and then it was my hair — until I started to lose it and we went back to a hairpiece!” Koenig recalled.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Koening further discussed how Jones inspired Chekov. “He inspired the studio,” Koening said. “They were looking for somebody that was somewhat like him and that appealed to the same category as him, and it had the desired response. I got an enormous amount of fan mail from kids 8-12, generally on lined paper in pencil.” Related

Thanks for this! I’ve always been aware of The Monkees, and the fact that they hit popularity around the same time that TOS was aired. It is a shame about what happened with The Monkees, though. They eventually really proved themselves musically.

Have you ever seen Head? It was a movie The Monkees made in the late 60s that was co-written by Jack Nicholson and directed by Bob Rafelson, who also directed Five Easy Pieces. It’s utterly insane and anarchic. Their songs were their own in that film. A lot of people hate it because there’s no plot and nothing makes sense. But that’s why I love it.

I have seen it! From what I can tell, the chaotic nature was a direct play on the Beetles films. I watch Head every few years or so.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely. Help! came out three years earlier and had already upped the surreality factor from A Hard Day’s Night. And then everyone started doing LSD…

wjrii,

Even in the early days, they had a strong stable of songwriters, including folks like Carole King and Neil Diamond. They were a manufactured band, to be sure, but they were manufactured from solid parts.

Does it support custom playlists where you can “weight” each track and pitchshifting/time stretching? If so, this is enormous. Of all software, it’s Musicbee that’s keeping me tied to Windows more than anything else.

I have been using this for a few hours now and it’s pretty great, so far my favorite of all the players I tried. Left the dev a few bucks on GitHub.

From those screenshots it does look quite nice! Visible ratings while scrolling albums is huge for me and I miss it. I migrated everything over to Strawberry from MusicBee this year because I only want FOSS, and Tauon appears to be GPL licenced! Strawberry absolutely works, but it still feels more like a settle. Gotta give this a try and see how it feels, thanks for the info!

Thank you for this!
I love music bee and this doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint

Thank you for this! I’ve been looking quite a while for a music player that can sort by date modified (or created) and this can pretty easily do it while looking nice too.

Massive appreciation to you for showing it to me

WeAreAllOne,

Try Cantata if you have Linux.

Looks great! I’ve been rocking Strawberry for a little while now since I decided to finally retire Winamp, but this looks like it might be better in terms of the UI!

Can I sort albums by original date?

Berny23,
@Berny23@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You can use either y> or y< in the generator settings of a playlist to sort by year. You can use ypa to sort by year per artist.

SolarPunker,

Sadly looks like you can’t sort albums by original date (y:mm:dd)

I hope that too, this is by far the best player I have tried on Linux.

Me too, I found it on the bottom of a audio player list in the Arch Linux wiki. Oh, I use Arch btw. xD
