9point6,

Not that they were a great company to begin with, but nice one Mike Ashley, killed off another brand basically

9point6,

I wish there was a Google translate for memes

Got no idea what’s going on here

9point6,

Genuinely I love a good pixar film on a hangover day, and I had literally no idea this film existed

Dune 2 was great though

9point6,

…I feel like openssh has a much larger attack surface than a simple binary.

If you’re going to this extent already, you may as well jump on the run0 approach systemd is introducing.

oh no, I can hear rumbling

The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Steam reviews have dropped to 'mixed,' as players point at the performance and balance issues on PC. (www.pcgamesn.com)

“Right now even with 60 vigor you get one-shot by nearly every enemy that’s not pure fodder (like the classical wandering nobles in the base game),” Steam user ‘Flippikus’ writes. “And the Scadutree fragments that should make your damage and defense increase (exclusively while in the DLC) don’t help that much and...

9point6,

A 60fps limit in 2024 is pretty shit on its own without going into DLSS and ultrawide support missing

I remember on the original release it was so poorly optimised that valve stepped in to basically patch the game themselves on the steamdeck, yielding the kinda funny situation that the steamdeck was outperforming much beefier hardware until FS patched it themselves.

They really need to look like they’re at least trying, or they’ll quickly end up on the game developer shit list

9point6,

Probably jumping on the popularity of retro gaming

9point6,

Archive.org still exists and still has DMCA immunity*, you can get no-intro, goodset & redump sets on there. There is a gap in PC game ISOs currently though afaik, but steam and gog do seem to be good for covering most releases

Failing legal options, those sets will be available forever via BitTorrent

*If you’re in the US, please make sure your representative knows how important it is this continues—well, unless they’re a republican, in which case, probably better they stay oblivious if they don’t already know.

WANNABE DICTATOR Trump Demands that All Business Execs Be FIRED If They're Not 100% Behind Trump (www.dailykos.com)

On Tuesday morning Trump provided another example of his tyrannical tendencies. In a comment posted to his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, Trump issued a decree to the world that he imagines is attentive to his crackpot ravings. He demanded that…...

9point6,

No no no, see, ideological purging is what they say socialists do!

This must be something different, it couldn’t have always been projection

9point6,

Am I being cynical or oblivious when I see that history and assume it’s mostly bullshit?

9point6,

Could be onto a winner, but we need to know more about the sandwich

Goddamn, if that’s a cubano…

9point6,

Right, so I’m not a low-level PC hardware expert or anything, but:

We only got resizable BAR like a couple of years ago, and it was very much a premium enthusiast feature at the time. Are modern engines and the games built for them optimised to expect resizable BAR as a baseline yet? If not that will still be a limiting factor right?

I thought the reason resizable BAR was introduced was because we hit the limits of what the previous approach allowed regardless of the speed of the link

i.e. of course it doesn’t make a difference with games today, they’re built targeting hardware configurations that will limit the utility of extra storage bandwidth

Reiterating that I might have this entirely wrong, so I’m more than happy to be corrected here

9point6,

The George in the photo has had way more impact than the one in the article IMO

Parliament & Funkadelic have made some of the most important contributions to modern music

9point6,

It must have taken a pause at least because I saw him 9 years ago in a field in the UK

Fantastic musician, but as you say, definitely a bit weird

Kinda as all the greats are, really

9point6,

That makes a lot of sense actually, I’m convinced this is the case

9point6,

I’m now wondering if OP is in a locale that flips the thousand separator with the decimal point or if their update client is proposing 2 updates and roughly 10% of a third

The joke works for both

9point6,

For you, sure! For me, it’s a decimal point

9point6,

They came for… And I didn’t speak out…

9point6,

There’s a thread somewhere else on lemmy about this from a couple of days ago, I think the conclusion was that this was a law firm going for a cash grab and the claims were pretty flimsy, they’re going after Sony too.

9point6,

Googling the tiles doesn’t bring anything up on Wikipedia so I’m gonna guess this is fake, I’m afraid

9point6,

ME is a bold choice regardless—those installs always seem to destroy themselves before long in my experience (admittedly from quite a while ago now)

As for games (in no particular order):

  • Command & Conquer (basically all of them up to including RA2)
  • Diablo 2
  • Warcraft 3
  • Dungeon Keeper
  • Theme Hospital
  • Rollercoaster Tycoon (and RCT2)
  • Unreal Tournament 99
  • Fury 3/Terminal Velocity
  • Z
  • Age of Empires 1 & 2
  • Pharaoh & Caesar 3
  • MechWarrior 3
  • Serious Sam
  • Sim City 3000
  • Quake 2 & 3
  • Half Life
  • Deus Ex

I’m definitely forgetting some

9point6,

Yes to all of those, though I never actually played empire earth, so that goes on my modern day list

9point6,

I would also suggest the modern emulated alternatives if you struggle to get hold of the original hardware

MT32-pi: github.com/dwhinham/mt32-pi (covers the MT-32 & CM-32, can also do some general midi with sound fonts, so in theory you could emulate a soundcanvas too)

Then there’s the sound cards too

PicoGUS: github.com/polpo/picogus/ (emulates a Gravis Ultrasound, SB2, AdLib, Tandy & also the MPU401 if you do end up with real midi hardware)

Also gonna just drop the goldlib too: pcmidi.eu/goldlib.html but that one might be a bit separate from what OP is currently doing

9point6,

Ah that’s good to know, might be one for 86box then

9point6,

I’ve not heard that track in like a decade

9point6,

Dolby Atmos is up to 12 channels this connector has 16 + ground

It’s clearly for Dolby Atmos + component video with an inline microphone

9point6,

I knew there was some magic going on with DPL, but I never guessed quite how they did it—that was a surprisingly simple approach in the end!

9point6,

I was aware that there was algorithmic expansion that could be done, but I did think it was a maximum of 12 real channels (L, C, T, SL, SR, RL, RR, sub, 4x overheads)

What are the other 4? Do they add channels between the ear height and overheads?

9point6,

Woo! I can’t believe it’s nearly been a year already

9point6,

Who the hell is having chips for breakfast

I’m calling the breakfast police

Edit: in answer to the question, bacon/sausage butty or scrambled on toast, orange juice and then the rest on coffee is probably not far from a standard morning

9point6,

Weekends Vs weekdays

9point6,

North America and Japan are the only places in the world that don’t call it that

9point6,

Can you buy naproxen without a prescription over there? I thought you generally needed to pair it with something like omeprazole and the general public can’t be trusted to read instructions

Best way of playing Wipeout these days?

So…after watching latest Noclip video, I was having a bit of a Wipeout itch…I have a rather decent gaming computer, but I was wondering what would be the best way to play the wipeout series…was 2097 the best one? Is there a good way to get it running at decent resolution/effects these days?...

9point6,

I would say the definitive PS1 Wipeout game is Wip3out: Special Edition.

Specifically the special edition as it comes with double the number of tracks where the best of the previous two games are selected for the bonus content.

Also the wipeout 3 soundtrack is absolute perfection.

As for how to play, retroarch is probably the recommended approach these days, PS1 emulation is pretty mature and has been for a while.

9point6,

So citadelum looks like a Caesar 3 regen—I could be interested

9point6,

I have not, but I know what I’m going to be doing this weekend now

9point6,

And damn isn’t everyone who lives outside of London indignantly pissed off that the city is being designed for its residents rather than them. Funny that a lot of them also suddenly seem to care about the plight of the working man unlike never before—just so long as we’re talking about the plight of the white van man being able to drive around London.

9point6,

Public transport in and around London is some of the best in the world, there’s even countless park & ride stations which can help with people who are genuinely too far from a station or bus stop to do the whole journey on public transport.

There’s no genuinely valid reason that 99% of people would need to drive in London at all really, just people feeling mildly inconvenienced and blowing a gasket over it.

Another big aspect though, is that we also have our deeply unpopular conservative party in power currently with an impending election where they’re expected to perform so badly, they’re potentially going to get banished to the history books. So naturally they’re stoking up a load of none-of-that-green-rubbish and i-will-be-dead-before-you-take-by-diesel-powered-child-flattener-from-me sentiment in the hopes it turns some of their previous knuckle-dragging voters back away from other parties. The result of this is people in Surrey with minimal intention of ever even visiting London already because of the Daily Mail’s conspiracy theories, complaining loudly online about all the woke militants imprisoning them on a train or whatever bullshit they spout.

9point6,

You don’t need to, they are going to be reacting badly, just like always

They’re a group with the collective mental resilience of a toddler.

9point6,

I’m here for sloth month whenever anyone is up for it

9point6,

FIFA 22 seems oddly recent to be shutting down compared to the rest

9point6,

But then I’m supposed to take time from the other end of the day

9point6,

I got excited that there might have been a new video for a moment

9point6,

I find it surprising that the PS5 is beating the PS4 in popularity, it honestly feels like a flop in comparison from how I remember the PS4 being at this point of time.

9point6,

Yeah was gonna say he clearly doesn’t realise how much he’s telling on himself with this
