There was something in that game that made it insufferable to me, but I don’t remember what it was. Everytime I picked it up I would play for 5 or 10 minutes and put it down again, until I eventually quit it.

I wonder how that’s going. When the devs started they were clearly overpromising things that they thought would be cool to have without any idea of how long it would take to implement them. Nah, I’ve lost it 25 years ago and never really missed it. On contrary, in the rare instances in which I was able to smell something since, it’s always been something I would rather not.

How easy is it to switch back to windows?

I’m considering switching to linux but I’m not a computer savvy person, so I wanted to have the option to switch back to windows if unforeseen complications (I only have 1 pc). Is it just a download on usb and install? And what ways can I get the product key or “cleaner” debloated versions.

Windows, in the past has been known to sometimes overwrite the Linux boot loader after a windows update.

Linux (ubuntu) do that pretty often too, people just don’t notice it because they’re unlikely to be running any other bootloader if they have Linux’.

Here We Go is the old Nokia Maps, which (at least until ~8 years ago) has the absolute best map data of all of the mentioned services, specially for third world countries and other places that Google and Apple aren’t so worried about keeping up-to-date.

I was pretty much the opposite lol. Really loved the quest system on the first one and strongly disliked the cast of the second. The third is generally my favorite.

I got xenogears as a kid who didn’t even speak English after returning a non-functional Medievel 2 and picking xenogears as a replacement simply because it was more expensive and I realized the salesman at the store wouldn’t check the price as long as I was trading one game by another. I didn’t understand most of the game but I still fell in love with it back then. To this day it is still the first game I think of when someone ask me what my favorite is.

I had to do some soap integration last year and it feels like it only got worse with age.

Yep, though the combat is very hard to get used to early and it may feel to hard - only to feel too easy once you master it.

I played it last year and got soft locked in the main quest about 15 hours in, but only realized after another 10 hours of side quests. Usually I wouldn’t start over but in the game I gladly did.

Speaking specifically about npm: A ton of packages used as dependencies for a million different things have very loose quality control, some even merge community PRs straight to release without checking the code in any way. More often than not I have run into packages maintained by people with no connection to the original dev and don’t even know how its code actually works.

I remember a couple years ago I needed to read zip64 files so I picked up the zip file definition and implemented the read operation for it in the package we were using for zips. I only implemented a very small subset of the format to strictly solve my problem. I opened a pr to them saying “here’s some quickstart of you plan to add full support for zip64” - next time I checked they has merged my pr as if was and now were having folks registering issues for incomplete zip64 support.

I never associated it with the people pleasing aspect of my life, but it took me 35 years to finally enjoy one song by myself, to the point I actually didn’t mind just listening to it without doing anything else at the same time.

A couple years ago I had a similar reaction with folks saying that Drake (who at that point I had never heard of) was a bigger name than Taylor Swift. I laughed and googled his name only to find out that the claim was not as far fetched as I first imagined. I guess no name is truly universally known.

I think they’re just talking about the game being open world in a full planet that you can clearly see is a planet and is large and diverse enough to actually feel like a full planet.

Still not the first at that either. Valheim for example is a round planet and open world and has several biomes. But there the world isn’t really impressive, so maybe that’s what they are trying to be the first of?

Based on the trailer they are clearly trying to be the first game to actually achieve something but it’s hard to define what that something really is.

Oh I must’ve got it confused with some other game then, I could swear the world map was presented as a globe.

Did people pay for the game before or after the developer removed any references to it being an MMO?

If they made something that is not an MMO it’s only natural that they won’t want it to be presented as if it was one, even if they originally intended to create the game as an MMO.

I don’t think the game deserves to be cruficied just for failing to reach the goals the devs had in mind, as long as it is not being sold as if it had. Folks can buy the game, realize it’s not what they hoped for, refund and move on. Or better yet, hopefully they can realize it’s not the game they were expecting based on the store page and not even buy it in the first place.

Now if the dev is misleading people about what the game is, or if people paid for one thing long ago and received another in the end, then nevermind me and carry on.

Because it wasn’t a game, it was a gamified data collection app. If someone actually wanted to make a game with this concept, it could turn out well, but that was never Niantic’s intention.

Feels like any dev who wants to use the regional pricing will have more work now and before the change. This was probably done in favor of big publishers who treat the regional price as a small discount instead of a fair price.

Not exactly. Of course Gabe could be replaced by some idiot who fucks everything up, but if Valve doesn’t become publicly traded it will continue to be in the best interest of whoever ends up owning it to continue doing things this way. Gabe doesn’t do good things just because. He does it because happy customers means more money in the long run.

Publicly traded companies on the other hand need to extract as much money as quickly as possible and have no regards to what will happen to it a few months later. So even if Gabe dies, all Valve needs is a leader interested in what’s best for itself.

I just had a revolutionary idea: what if every time you reach a new point in a game, it showed you a certain sequence of icons related to that point in the game. Then, if you ever want to play that part of the game again you can just insert that same sequence of icons into an option of the game and it’ll play from there.

Then people could also share the sequences they discover with their friends, allowing said friends to skip part of the game if they want to.

Specially for devs in countries that don’t have tax treaties with the US, if you’re buying it in the US. They’ll refund you fully but still have to pay 30% of the value to uncle Sam.

Said new tech made the game much lighter on the CPU and able to simulate things with much more detail, but Unity never integrated it properly with everything else in the engine, so Cities’ devs had to basically fill in a lot of gaps, with a lot less expertise in engine making. It turned out understandably inefficient.

I am mostly posting this article because MMORPGs are one of my favorite genres, despite my lack of time to play them these days. But overall I have been pretty disappointed with the direction the genre has taken. Moving more towards solo-play, story-heavy, and small-scale theme-park style content.

When New World came out, ignoring all the other issues, a lot of the people who were playing it really wanted mounts. They said it was absurd the game didn’t have it. I missed being able to move faster too, but just by looking at the game I could tell that the only thing stopping me from getting to max level in three days was that it took time to go from point from the quest givers to the quest locations and then back. If it had mounts that would completely break the progression and they would need to make us have to kill a lot more enemies or collect a lot more items to complete quests or get exp.

I heard they added mounts in a recent update. I wonder how they ended up doing it. A couple years later getting to the end game pretty quick is probably no longer an issue so they may have done nothing.

Valve is also a privately owned company, meaning that every decision they make will always affect Gabe, and not someone different every week like most other companies. Valve needs to think long term while their competitors need immediate effects.

    Because it impresses people and so it sells. If they didn’t do that, all those EAs and Ubisofts would have to find a new selling point like making their games good or something.

    Sometimes windows itself will only let games know there’s a controller plugged in after a button is pressed, but connecting a controller with the game already open can usually be detected just fine.
