citrusface,

You’re mom.

HubertManne,

I was going to say who gives a fuck. Im voting. The way other people are voting will not change my voting or opinion in any way. I cannot effect the outcome realistically outside of that.

xmunk,

I’m not mom.

disguy_ovahea,

You are. citrusface said so.

xmunk,

Then I want you to know that while I’m not angry I’m extremely disappointed that you didn’t even call on Sunday. It was mother’s day for gosh sakes.

Well the Democrats are doing everything possible lose atm.

newthrowaway20,

Polls this far out are meaningless.

dhork,

No, they contain relevant information, and they are important. But they only have meaning until tomorrow’s poll comes out. The one in November is the only one that counts.

KevonLooney,

That’s the definition of meaningless. All these polls ask “if the election were held today…”. It’s not being held today, and everyone acts based on that.

There’s no GOTV push yet, and campaigns structure their spending based on when the actual election is. Voters almost always vote based on something that happens near the election when they are paying attention.

ccunning,

Also, nationwide polls (even the main one on Election Day) are pretty meaningless.

At least the article acknowledges this:

While nationwide surveys give important signals on American support for political candidates, just a handful of competitive states typically tilt the balance in the U.S. electoral college, which ultimately decides who wins a presidential election.

givesomefucks,

Some 40% of registered voters in the eight-day poll, which closed on Tuesday, said they would vote for Biden, a Democrat, if the election were held today, with the same share picking former President Trump. The dead heat was little changed from a 1 point lead that Biden held in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted April 29-30.

No matter who wins, the majority of Americans will be unhappy.

This isn’t democracy

And I’m still convinced the DNC is in some kind of Brewster’s Millions scenario where they’re trying as hard as possible to lose the election.

It’s the only way any of Biden’s actions make sense.

Boddhisatva,

No matter who wins, the majority of Americans will be unhappy.

This isn’t democracy

That is exactly democracy. There will always be some significant fraction of voters who will be dissatisfied with the results. I would be more worried if the winning candidate had overwhelming support. Look at how much Reagan won by and how badly he fucked everything up. As long as voters are tussling over varied issues and considering their voting options then democracy is working.

And I’m still convinced the DNC is in some kind of Brewster’s Millions scenario where they’re trying as hard as possible to lose the election.

It’s the only way any of Biden’s actions make sense.

Nonsense. The Democratic party has never had to put any particular effort into snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, they just do it.

No it’s not democracy. It’s a bad implementation of democracy. Just like a bad implementation of communism doesn’t work.

btaf45,

Then the only thing that would improve it would be a better implementation of democracy. Not a slide backwards into neofascism.

tsonfeir,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Where every vote counts, and everyone votes on everything, and popular vote wins. Ranked voting for 3+ options would be good too.

btaf45,

I think what we need to start with is an objective evaluation of how good our democracy is compared to other countries. Something like this:

worldpopulationreview.com/…/freedom-index-by-coun…

This rank would use object criteria e.g.

Is every vote for every office weighted equally?

Does the system disfavor more than 2 parties?

How easy is it to vote?

Are voting districts determined objectively?

givesomefucks,

There will always be some significant fraction of voters who will be dissatisfied with the results.

That’s very different than only 40% being happy if either candidate is president…

That’s not a “significant faction”…

That’s a sizable majority.

Close to 2/3s of the country…

btaf45,

And I’m still convinced the DNC

Which exact members of the DNC are you talking about? You don’t even know any do you? Biden is running his campaign, not the DNC.

givesomefucks,

Biden is running his campaign, not the DNC.

You don’t know about the Biden Victory Fund?

The Biden campaign, the Democratic National Committee and other affiliated fundraising committees had $130 million in the bank at the end of the month, according to the Biden campaign, which says January was its best grassroots fundraising month since the start of the campaign.

"January’s fundraising haul — driven by a powerhouse grassroots fundraising program that continues to grow month by month — is an indisputable show of strength to start the election year,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “While Team Biden-Harris continues to build on its fundraising machine, Republicans are divided — either spending money fighting Donald Trump, or spending money in support of Donald Trump’s extreme and losing agenda.”

nbcnews.com/…/biden-january-fundraising-42-millio…

They’ve been counting DNC money as Biden’s for months…

And while that says “grass roots” every American can give up to a million a year to it.

They’re coordinating that way to get around donation limits.

And the head of the DNC is Jamie Harrison, the guy Biden picked…

nbcnews.com/…/jaime-harrison-picked-new-democrati…

That’s not a deep cut either. I thought everyone at least knew who he was…

Maybe that’s why not enough people are pissed off? They just don’t know all the fucked up shit Biden and the DNC are doing?

btaf45,

They’ve been counting DNC money as Biden’s for months…

They will use some of the money for the Biden campaign. So what?

They’re coordinating that way to get around donation limits.

It’s part of a larger general problem that organizations (such as corporations) can contribute to campaigns, and every time that happens it gets around individual donation limits. And even worse than that is PAC spending. It is hardly a problem specific to the DNC.

Maybe that’s why not enough people are pissed off?

What is there to be “pissed off” about? It’s worked that way for 100 years…

And the head of the DNC is Jamie Harrison, the guy Biden picked…

And the head of the RNC is Lara Trump who is using their funds to pay Convicted Sex Offender Treason Trump’s LEGAL BILLS.

givesomefucks,

And the head of the RNC is Lara Trump who is using their funds to pay Convicted Sex Offender Treason Trump’s LEGAL BILLS

You think a party shouldn’t pay the candidates legal bills?

www.cnn.com/2024/04/12/politics/…/index.html

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be mad, you should.

But you should be mad regardless of the letter by someone’s name.

Are you mad at the DNC and Biden?

btaf45,

Are you mad at the DNC and Biden?

I would say I’m “mad” no.

[“There is no comparison,” DNC spokesman Alex Floyd said. “The DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors’ money on legal bills, unlike Donald Trump, who actively solicits legal fees from his supporters and has drawn down every bank account he can get his hands on like a personal piggy bank.”]

You think a party shouldn’t pay the candidates legal bills?

No I don’t. But even in the case of Convicted Sex Offender Treason Trump, I kind of like that his legal expenses are harming his supporters more then helping Treason Trump. So I’m not even sure if I’m mad about that.

givesomefucks,

Oh wow

I didn’t know a DNC spokesperson said it was OK the DNC is paying Biden’s legal bills…

Like, did you even notice the “no grass roots” part?

The Biden Victory Fund can take a million a year from a person. biden has practically zero “grassroots donors”.

The only people giving him money are the wealthiest, they’re the only ones getting anything back for their money

btaf45,

The only people giving him money are the wealthiest

F*cking Bullshit. 90% of Biden’s donors give less than $200. I am planning to give Biden money. I’m not the “wealthiest”. And what I plan to get back for my money is the continuation of democracy.

Like, did you even notice the “no grass roots” part?

Like, did you even notice that you just made up some bullshit? 90% of Biden’s donors give less than $200.

givesomefucks, (edited )

90% of Biden’s donors give less than $200.

And the vast majority of his money comes through BVF which can take up to a million a year from each person…

Like I already blocked you before replying this time because it’s been three days and you won’t stop , but you have such a massive misunderstanding of how numbers work if you think what you just said is in any way relevant I had to say it:

Most of his money coming from whales and most of his donors not giving much are not mutually exclusive

Like, this isn’t even about politics, that’s basic story word problems you should have been doing before Algebra even got taught.

Youre missing fundamental understanding of math and it’s likely effecting your life.

It’s never to late to start learning, but if you act like this someone is going to charge you a lot of money to put up with you

But just in general, if you’re throwing out percentages like that, you should be linking the source or everyone is going to believe the “90%” number is something you pulled out of your ass.

It’s just that whether or not that was true. Doesn’t fucking change anything we’re talking about.

Beetschnapps,

It’s almost like your definition of democracy revolves around being unhappy. Compromise means nothing, and if the klan doesn’t get its way no one should ever be happy.
