Stormygeddon, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x09 & 2x10 "The Devourer of All Things"

Gotta hand it to them. They sure know how to keep back-to-back interesting cliffhangers for their episodes. This show would’ve been so tense as a weekly release.

milkisklim, in The number of lines for each character by percentage of the series

This is really cool stuff! Thanks for posting the code!

This definitely goes to show why people felt Discovery was the Micheal Burnham show. Not that she had an unusual number of lines but that no one else spoke even half as much as her, with all of the other percentages of lines broken up by more characters than the other series.

Also does GEORGIOU count for both prime and mirror versions of the character?

danielquinn,
@danielquinn@lemmy.ca avatar

That was my takeaway as well. I just wish I had data for the other seasons. It’d be interesting to see how that might change the percentages as they are.

As for GEOGIOU, I’m reasonably sure that this refers to both versions of her.

exocrinous,

Georgiou also got fridged for Michael’s character development. And then we follow Michael over the timeskip. Right out the gate, the universe exists to tell a story about Michael.

usernamefactory, in The number of lines for each character by percentage of the series

Fascinating! It would be illuminating to see this broken up by season as well. Seven of Nine’s relatively low ratio, for instance, can definitely be attributed to her late arrival to the series. In the latter seasons, I suspect her percentage could be rivalling Janeway’s.

Conversely, it’s impressive Lorca ranks as highly as he does, given he was gone by the end of Disco season one. But since he was simultaneously captain and antagonist while he was around, I guess it isn’t that surprising.

“The Breen ship, I believe, is the largest asset we’ve ever built. It was about 10 kilometres of an actual digital environment that were built so we can travel through and also shoot practically in certain areas,” he recalls. “It was a really massive ship both from the exterior but also from the interior. And it’s something that if you look at the details when you’re watching it on screen, there’s just so much depth, Digi doubles and ships – the detail is almost endless.”

Not sure what to say here besides, “wow.”

clay_pidgin, in The number of lines for each character by percentage of the series

Maybe the two Dax hosts on DS9 should be combined, as they didn’t overlap.

EarMaster, in Why fed ship do not have dedicate landing team, but send bridge crew on dangerous mission ?

Because the crew sees itself as researchers, scientists and diplomats. There is no reason to have a hazard team. We can assume that the encounters we see on screen are only the unusual ones…

Wow, Wheaton was really great in this. His manic, impulsive Wesley Crusher is a lot more interesting than the more serene version we’ve gotten since…always, really.

They’re really leaning in to the Doctor Who of it all, not just with Wesley, but also with the Loom, which seem ripped straight out of Father’s Day.

It’s nice of the Starfleet of this era to not only put security officers back into red shirts, but making them brighter than those of the command officers to make them easier targets.

ValueSubtracted, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x11 & 2x12 "Last Flight of the Protostar"
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

That was certainly unexpected - I love the concept of having to sail the Protostar across the atmosphere.

Beltran’s work as Chakotay this season has actually been really good - this might be the first time I’ve ever been invested in the character.

ValueSubtracted, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x13 "A Tribble Called Quest"
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

So…did Rok-Tahk just come up with a “cure” for tribble breeding? That would seem to be a significant development…

@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Ever since “Picard” season one, I’ve been itching to see Starfleet during the time of the Romulan evacuation, when the vast majority of their resources have been redeployed to support that mission. I never expected it to be this show that did it. It’s interesting to hear that there are A500 synth units supporting the Federation member worlds - it’s probably a good thing that only the units on Mars were hacked, as far as we know.

Thematically, things are really starting to come together, with Dal and the crew learning to contribute to the mission rather than take control of it.

I think I’m pretty happy with this resolution to Zero’s arc - their new body seems fitting.

ValueSubtracted, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x17 "Brink"
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Pretty good for a table-setting episode. The most significant development was taking Wesley’s omniscience off the board, which probably had to happen for the rest of the season to have any stakes.

ValueSubtracted, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x18 "Touch of Grey"
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

With a title like that, I was half-expecting a clip show…

I was also thinking that Hologram Janeway might borrow the mobile emitter and pull a switcheroo with the Admiral, but it turns out the Doctor can just do it himself.

concrete_baby, in Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Prodigy | 2x18 "Touch of Grey"

A slight inconsistency with Voyager logic is that the Doctor’s mobile emitter seems to disappear when the Doctor is deactivated. That seems to suggest the emitter is holographic itself. But what emits the emitter?

I had the same reaction, and decided it was an unacknowledged site-to-site transport.

Halfway through and I’m enjoying it immensely. I’m in my middle age years so don’t tell me this show is for kids. Trek fans shouldn’t miss this series.

I’m in my middle age years so don’t tell me this show is for kids.

This is what I needed to hear actually, I haven’t checked it out but I’ve also heard nothing but praise so maybe it’s time!

RunningInRVA,

The plot is surprisingly complex for what is cast as a “kids show” or “Trek for newbs”. Don’t watch it unless you have seen at least some of the Voyager series. The plot from S1 ties right into S2. I had a moment in S2E6 (or thereabouts) where my emotions got trigger when Janeway makes a tough choice.

The show works.

Shdwdrgn,

56 here, I discovered and was blasting through first season last Summer when I realized that was the only season so far so I started pacing myself… and then all the crap came down about it being cancelled and I was flabbergasted. I mean yeah it’s an animated series, that doesn’t mean it’s ONLY for children. Hell look at how many animated shows Star Wars has and I would never expect something “Bad Batch” to be marketed as a kids show. Prodigy feels more like DS9 to me, showing the really dark side of the Federation and things that slip through the cracks, it’s not the typical show where everything gets wrapped up in the last five minutes and you move on to the next episode, and I really love that. Hopefully it will get picked up for more seasons but meanwhile I’m taking my time going through the episodes.
