Only asshole goose I ever knew was a white goose with an orange beak. All the Canada geese in my parts are completely unaggressive whimps. It’s the turkeys you gotta watch out for.

Who wouldn’t be afeared of a Canadian ghost?! Although it’d probably just apologize for its haunting.

I just let the steak’s own fat do the work, no additional fats necessary. Just be sure to allow the meat for rest for at least 5-10 minutes after cooking before you cut into it.

I need some help choosing a monitor.

Simply put I have built a gaming tower that I have no monitor that will connect with the machine only having a BIOS and no OS. As I understand it, I need something that will connect with an HDMI cable, but that seems to be either a traditional monitor or a tablet. I’m completely unsure which would be more stable, and therefore...

Answering based on a comment op made in the thread:

I think there are wireless hdmi adaptors that would enable you to move a normal monitor around but seems like l lot of jank—monitor would still need power, you’d need a wireless mouse and keyboard, a table, etc. I’d say a simpler solution would be to get a normal display for your computer and then a cheap laptop to run steam link on to stream games from your main computer to the laptop in whatever room you’re in. Performance would depend on your home wifi network.

I know ( or rather assume because I’ve never actually used steam link in any meaningful way) this limits you to your steam library, but like, we all know most games are just in our steam libraries.

Internet food, it’s delicious in internet.

9 years later, I finally played fallout 4

Having dropped New Vegas in the past due to lost interest, I decided to try this game out finally since a friend of mine was having a fallout 3 playthrough himself. It was it 8 bucks, so I figured why not. I have to say, I put way more hours into this game than both other Bethesda games I’ve played through (Skyrim and...

@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been replaying and somewhat enjoying Fallout 4 recently too and all I can say is Bethesda made a very good (and janky) video game back in 2003 and managed to reskin it into 5 different games over the past 20 years fairly well—only blatantly showed its age with Starfield because they removed all the (now out of date) modernizations introduced in Fallout 4. I will not buy The Elder Scrolls VI if that ever comes to market.

Just throwing it out there if you haven’t played it, The Outer Worlds hits all the fallout notes in a tighter package (also made by obsidian who made New Vegas)

As I child, I always cheated and crossed my eyes to make these work, and saw them as a child—concave and unintelligible. Now that I am a man I finally learned to discard childish ways and trigger these properly by staring off into the far distance and tuning out all the stress of the modern world.

You clearly have never been to a hospital

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I am curious, does this monthly fee simply enable access to doctors that you then have to give additional money to? If so what is the out of pocket cost? Does it cover hospital stays? Does it cover medication? Or is all of that extra and out of pocket?

I’m only asking because I have insurance. And it is significantly more per month. And it basically covers nothing other than the invented prices of medical care hospitals charge.

A usual statement of benefits I get from my insurance is:

Hospital billed $20,303 for service but we (insurance) only accept a bill of $3798 for this service so we paid them $1000 for the service and you, (our beloved customer) only pay the difference so please pay the hospital $2798 for the blood test they mistakenly coded.

Does that happen with Amazon? Or are y’all paying $8/ month and 1) getting charged full cost at hospitals / clinics Or 2) just paying $8/month?

(In case it wasn’t obvious I’m in the US and no, I am not exaggeration on my example or being sarcastic, I am genuinely curious)

The Game is Afoot (lemmy.world)

A bit ago I posted this image and a sharp-eye named Even_Adder (not sure exactly how attributes work on Voyager yet) saw that something was written to it. I dug around a little, but couldn’t come up with the answer, so I figured what the hell and sent them an email. The Institute has responded....

Donebrach,

Uh, don’t most games require this?

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I know the difference between downloading and installing. I imagine this game is too large to fit on an optical disc, thus requiring an active internet connection to instal it. like a shit load of other games before it.

Could’ve taken five seconds to alter the image so that it actually said “beetle” instead of responding to every comment trying to explain your joke.

Truly a failure of a shitpost.

[Question] best ways to freeze lunch meats and cheeses?

I recently got my hands on a very old but still totally serviceable full-sized deli slicer, and my local restaurant depot is very liberal about handing out day passes to anyone who walks in and asks for one, and the savings buying a whole log of meat and slicing it yourself are pretty bonkers, totally worth the pain in the ass...

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

Everything freezes fine, just a matter of how it’s packaged and how long it’s frozen. Only thing you’re sacrificing is quality of texture and flavor over long extended periods—if frozen properly, food is safe to eat indefinitely (whether previously frozen and then thawed food is enjoyable to eat is another story).

Freeze the meats in small quantities that are easily consumable within a couple of days. Absolutely do not freeze and then thaw and refreeze larger chunks of anything—if something previously frozen is thawed and is past its sell-by date, it’s usually safe to eat for only a day or so.

Also if you’re running into the issue of having too much bulk meat—stop acquiring more bulk meat. Influencers love to sell the idea of DIY bulk food prep but most of the time that doesn’t make sense for people, for a multitude of reasons.

That moog isn’t a fucking iTunes playlist, it’s a musical instrument that needs a real person to play it so your entire plan is completely shot.

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

yes there’s a problem, its only magic is that is works without an amp or outlet. none of the other things you’ve listed are implied or remotely plausible.

Donebrach,

As someone who put 120 hrs in I can honestly say it isn’t. No Man’s Sky basically did it all and better beforehand.

Air coolers are just as efficient if not more than. Liquid AIOs. At the end of the day the efficiency is down to the physical connection between the cpu and the heat sink and they’re all just metal plates, beside the case you have chosen can move a lot of air through it. Also you don’t run the risk of the AIO leaking and destroying your computer. Happened to a former associate of mine. Also I have the larger version of that case and absolutely love it. Good choice.

I think the Union’s stake in the civil war was more about federal supremacy over the United States (which obviously goes without question in a federal system). Ending slavery was just a function of that goal. I say this as someone who grew up in the southwest and is wholly committed to the authority of the federal government over individual states because that is obviously the system outlined in the constitution.

Of course “The North” was just as racist and still is just as shitty and racist as every other part of this country.

P.S. “The South” can suck it as a name, I propose a better title for former confederate states: The Losers (since it seems a certain demographic therein needs reminding).

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know what you are saying other than exactly what I said. Also The Federation isn’t a government yet, you’re about 140 years too early.

Maybe if the games did anything, uh, interesting. Didn’t play Hogwarts because I can give 0 fucks about the H Potter universe. Starfield was definitely one of the Bethesda games of all time. Just a smattering of mechanics stolen from other games and simplified. It was fun but by no means anything to write home about. Put about 140 hrs—will probably not play it ever again. Did put 120 int BG3, will probably play again in a couple months.
