Gunmen sent by Moscow killed defector sheltering in Alicante, Spanish intelligence services say

Spain’s Foreign Ministry will send a strong response if the involvement of Russian secret services in the crime is proven

Spanish intelligence services have no doubt that the long hand of the Kremlin is behind an unprecedented crime: the assassination in Alicante of Maxim Kuzminov, the Russian captain who defected last August and crossed over to Ukraine with his Mi8 combat helicopter.

Publicly, the Spanish government has been very cautious regarding who was possibly responsible for the murder. “We have to let the Guardia Civil [national police force] do its job and for the investigation to progress,” said government spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, on Tuesday.

However, diplomatic sources recognize that, although they are still waiting to gather enough information, it is a “very serious” matter. If the involvement of the Russian authorities is confirmed, they add, Spain will give a “forceful response.”

GenEcon,

Definitely not ‘unprecedented’. In Germany is a FSB Agent currently in jail for killing a dissident of Russia.

Blackmist,

Russia have been doing this for years and in deliberately obvious ways.

They know there’s no consequence. What are Spain seriously going to do about it?

Meaning nothing will be done.

APassenger,

At a minimum, face will be saved. Send ammunition to Ukraine noisily. Or something.

GeneralEmergency,

Generally want to know what you think could be done.

An aggressive embargo policy would be nice.

brbposting,

Bidey boi said he’d consider further sanctions the other day - meant to lookup what sanctions we have against them now.

…I did and got this. Who got time for that. I emailed them asking them to publish an executive summary heh

LifeInMultipleChoice,

What if we just cut all Transports from Russia to all NATO countries and transportation from Russia to another country then to a NATO country. Effectively killing all work being performed in person between the countries. Any company found buying or selling any products from Russia would receive punishment by the country they reside in, voted on by a majority approval of the NATO countries without care which countries they are. (Aka Russia, U.S., UK, etc don’t get a bigger deciding opinion on fairness). This will put a 100% cut off of Russian oil as well. The purchase through intermediate states/countries being tracked and punished as well. This would unfortunately punish the people of Russia harshly but it would cause an immediate demand of independence from any oil coming from there and force NATO countries to focus on punishing companies for allowing support to persist. End result is a seclusion/segregation of independence. Apple, Nike, and hundreds of other major brands would lobby against it because it would chop access to the labor markets in China and India, but would increase demand of labor on places like Mexico where money will get fed in, and if we address the underlying drug issues by legalizing weed and a few other drugs and tax them locally we strip the money from the cartels and suddenly the Mexican government and South American countries get more support via job creation and money flowing. The border crisis slows to a minimum as inflation decreased and safety in people’s home countries increases. We create decent immigration policy encouraging people to come through the “front door” (doesn’t exist) but also making sure we boost population paying taxes while creating a further alliance and reliance that brings all of each other up.

Fuck I may have to delete this… Has not been re read and some is extreme

Tangent5280,

SamsonSeinfelder,

Moscovia stays true to their mongol heritage, roaming the land and killing people. They are the same babarians their ancestors were.

More like soviet. I would be surprised if their playbook have significantly changed, and then-spies probably taught the current gen of agents.

Found an interview from OSINT investigator Grozev: youtu.be/wO2_R3AEJjU?si=vc44cKYqYBRKZWdE (30 mins)
