Looks like the Boring Company's Las Vegas tunnels are going about as well as you'd expect from an Elon project...
"The muck pooling in the tunnel at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip had the consistency of a milkshake and, in some places, sat at least two feet deep. ... At first, it merely felt damp. But in addition to the water, sand and silt—the natural byproducts of any dig—the workers understood that it was full of chemicals known as accelerants.
"The accelerants cure the grout that seals the tunnel’s concrete supports, helping the grout set properly and protecting the work against cracks and other deterioration. They also seriously burn exposed human skin. At the Encore dig site, such burns became almost routine, workers there told Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. An investigation by the state OSHA, which Bloomberg Businessweek has obtained via a freedom of information request, describes workers being scarred permanently on their arms and legs. According to the investigation, at least one employee took a direct hit to the face. In an interview with Businessweek, one of the tunnel workers recalls the feeling of exposure to the chemicals: “You’d be like, ‘Why am I on fire?’”"
I've just discovered that my monitor of the last 2 years (HP X27q) supports HDR 400. Not great, but an improvement over SDR nonetheless, I'd say. Only problem is, when I enable it, the monitor begins to emit a very high pitch whining noise. It's incredibly quiet, so quiet I didn't notice it for a few days. But now that I know it's there, it's definitely there and I can't go back to not hearing it. What in the world is going on with the HDR setting?
@Bandicoot_Academic Good to know that it's safe, but it is incredibly annoying. Do you know of anything I can do to make it stop short of disabling HDR?
Absolutely. Coil whine can be caused by other factors as well. You can find lots of ways to modify PCBs to remove coil whine online, but they will all be fairly invasive. I would recommend getting the manufacturer to replace it if possible.
J’ai terminé Super Mario World 😁.
I use floorp at home and firefox at work and I would like to sync password between those in a self-hosted way. I saw some mozilla server code somewhere to do so, but seems abandoned.
I would prefer a native mozilla-like solution instead of installing an extension, but if nothing else, that is also an alternative... suggestions?
I needed a sketch of the brewing process that I could freely use, that is aimed at a general audience and that serves as a "short summary" from which any one of the elements can be discussed in more detail.
Wow, who’s going to sign up for Elon Musk’s risky brain implant trial? Maybe the same people who send their kids to Kanye West’s boarding school, I guess.
Halo: Master Chief Collection is an absolute broken mess
Last weekend, I picked up the #Halo Master Chief Collection from the Steam sale with a friend. We wanted to play through Halo 1 again, but it was completely unplayable.
You can't always join another player's session.
Occasionally, nothing happens when starting a mission.
On certain missions the game just completely freezes.
At certain points the game locks up leaving you unable to move.
I've had a generally pleasant experience with the game. All the issues I came across--friends not being able to join matches, lag while on multiplayer--was because of cross-platform issues, one of us was on the MCC version while another was in the original release version, or my own poor internet connection.
I waffled back and forth on retiring my main character for the end of Endwalker and using my free fanta to change things up. Decided to stick with my femroe, though, and bring her “out of retirement” as it were.
My first plan will probably be to check out Viper and Pictomancer to see if they feel like I’d vibe with them, and then will likely start MSQ stuff a bit after the initial rush has died down. Will likely stick with RDM primary with SGE secondary for the MSQ.
Interesting point! We saw a preview of the icon for the “facewear” slot and it was a pair of glasses but there’s definitely a number of things that would work as face wear that aren’t just glasses.
Hopefully you’re onto something and it’s not just a localisation thing.
What if any Fediverse instance's make this DRM that Facebook has, with posts being locked for users not signed in. This can help with those who are scared of AI “taking over” because let's be real, AI just grabs the information you post online. If we do this, would AI “die”?
I don't personally care so to speak, as AI will not care, or sorry, these companies developing the AI LLM's will counter new strategies to obtain PII from websites.
