Contra Reforged Turns Konami's '80s Classic Into A Third-Person Shooter | Time Extension (www.timeextension.com)

The iconic run-and-gun shooter, Contra, is now reimagined in a third-person perspective with the release of Contra Reforged by homebrew developer Retrolead. This modern take on the classic game retains its retro graphics and difficulty level while offering unique features such as an auto lock-on mechanism that eliminates the...

Albbi,

The italics were almost enough to show the sarcasm. A true believer would’ve used THIS TO SHOW THEIR EMPHASIS.

Albbi,

but it has this thing where you can see what the enemy will do on their turn, which in turn makes your turn a tight puzzle as you got near-perfect information.

This sounds a lot like Into the Breach which is a fantastic game. Also the same people who made FTL.

Albbi,

No problem! And thanks for posting this game. Looks really neat.

Albbi,

Loooooove me some 20/30xx. Got 20xx for free from Epic and then quickly paid for 30xx on Steam when it came out. Thanks Epic!

Albbi,

No. The N64 was released in Japan before this weird abomination was released on either Japan or North America.

Albbi,

This is why I’m waiting until after early access to play the game.

Albbi,

Don’t negotiate with ransomware gangs! Giving them money will just give them increased resources and motive to keep doing it.

Albbi,

I dunno, with the American system you have like 2 year long campaigning cycle for president. There’s almost no break and it’s exhausting. In Canada when an election is called the campaign is only about 6 weeks give or take a week.

Also, if the government becomes dysfunctional, it can be dissolved and a new government elected. The US system doesn’t allow for that flexibility.

Albbi,

It’s really different though. The politicians are expected to be working at the national capitol during normal sessions. While they are ‘campaigning’ in that they’ll be trying to score sound bites and such for the media, they’re not allowed to spend money on regular campaigning until the election season starts.

How many rallies for president haver been held already with the election still 166 days away? How much money spent? It’s utterly exhausting.

Albbi,

www.myinstants.com/en/…/winamp-it-really-whips/

This was loaded in the winamp queue when you installed winamp. Take a listen.

Albbi,

The article did link the research article so you could have read it instead of jumped to conclusions. In this case fertility rates are being defined as rate of infertile couples, or couples who cannot conceive. Specifically, the worry is that the global sperm count is declining, and that the decline is accelerating.

Albbi,

Who knew that GeoGuessr was actually training people for a career in emergency services?

Albbi,

Printed Cases are available in every color - as long as the color is purple or black.

I’m colourblind I have an extra option. Purple doesn’t exist. Nice blue case you got there.

Seems like a good keyboard to get started down this rabbit hole.

Albbi,

I’ve been playing this as well and really enjoying it. Now I need a similar game that does early game Civilization.

Albbi,

Haha, turn based. I love the early game, with the exploration and determining what your civ will be like The late game can be tedious.

Albbi,

Not really my type of game but hearing Conroy and Hamill together would be nice. Conroy passed away in 2022…

Albbi,

Ah, I saw Mark Hamil voicing The Joker and I upvote. That’s so exciting though! I adored Conroy’s Batman so much.

Pierre Poilievre called lobbyists 'utterly useless,' but they're still attending his fundraisers (www.cbc.ca)

As Pierre Poilievre presents himself as both a prime minister in waiting and a champion of “the working-class people,” he’s headlined roughly 50 fundraisers at private venues since becoming Conservative leader in 2022 — some of them in Canada’s wealthiest neighbourhoods and most exclusive clubs....

Albbi,

I mean, how else does one become one of the richest politicians in Canada?

Albbi,

Plus you can get credits for the premium content in game. So you’re not locked out of it.

Albbi,

He’s had a series of mini-strokes though. We know it because he tweeted that he didn’t have them.

Albbi,

Oh, I need this. I usually go with heavy metal remixes of video game music when I can but I haven’t found anyone that has done Tristram properly yet.

Albbi,

Bigger characters had a lower top speed, but could maintain speed while turning better. They could also bump lighter characters and spin them out.

Albbi,

This isn’t correct for N64 Mario Kart. They actually did give the lightweights the best acceleration and top speed. I found a video that did some analysis. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6AxbNL2ET0

Albbi,

Oh yeah, that’s probably just the rubber band effect, which was pretty strong at 150cc.

Albbi,

Hrm, Sundar Pichai took over as CEO 9 years ago. Weird coincidence.

Albbi,

I put on Pee-Wee’s big adventure the other day just to see how it hold up and was amazed at the number of lines that were a huge part of my childhood. So much of his banter was gold for kids to repeat ad nauseum.

Albbi,

Agreed. I usually skip dialog in most games, but Hades had me taking to everyone, and it was fun! Crazy good game and I can’t wait for #2.

Iran fires drones, missiles at Israel in first-ever direct attack; IDF downing them (www.timesofisrael.com)

Iran on Saturday night launched a large wave of attack drones from its territory toward the Jewish state, in the first-ever direct attack on Israel by the Islamic Republic, with warning sirens activated in Israeli communities throughout the country early Sunday as the military worked to intercept the Iranian aircraft....

Albbi,

Out of the 16 casualties, 2 were civilian. Seems like it was targeting military personnel.

Albbi,

You could also check out Def Jam 2 for ps2. Lots of grappling and awesome moves.

Albbi,

PROBE THE FUCKING CELL PHONE AND INTERNET PROVIDERS!

Albbi,

Whoever is in charge there has amazing taste thiugh Great picks, which bugs me a lot since I want to be able to play them without giving netflix money.

Albbi,

I’m the same. It’s sitting in my cart.

XPipe status update: A new fast terminal launcher, a better file browser, performance improvements, and many bug fixes

I’m proud to share a development status update of XPipe, a shell connection hub and remote file manager that allows you to access your entire server infrastructure from your local machine. It works on top of your installed command-line programs and does not require any setup on your remote systems. So if you normally use CLI...

Albbi,

I decided to give it a shot and it seems very nice. You’ve got to get a handle on the amount of resident memory it’s using though. I haven’t done anything other than set up some ssh connections and it’s using more RAM than most things on my computer. 242MB.

Albbi,

And golden parachutes should have government restrictions. If you lie like this or break the law, you can’t just take a ton of money and walk away.

Albbi,

Got it for free. Didn’t play it much.

Suggestions for popular open source science app for a BOINC distributed computing proof-of-concept?

I work at an open science NGO that has been approached by a developer who is interested in making a public portal !boinc BOINC project. The basic idea is that scientific researchers could submit workunits for a number of popular science apps (molecular modeling etc) to be distributed and crunched by volunteers using BOINC....

Albbi,

I’m a bioinformatician. The problem with using bioinformatics software here is that the input or output data size is huge for most tasks, which makes submitting jobs off site much more difficult.

Bacterial genome assembly isn’t too bad though. I use Nanopore sequencing data and the input is usually on the order of a few gigabytes per task for an output file of a few megabytes. (pulling numbers outta my butt, but shouldn’t be too far off) But the multiplying this by 48 or 96 which is the number of samples out machine can run all at the same time and you’re getting into hundreds of gigabytes for input data. It’s just tough to manage this with cloud services.

But if you go simpler, you could offer a BLAST server. You just need to host your own database and accept queries. Not sure if you can split it into smaller tasks though. If you segment the main database your p-value results will change.

Albbi,

and

Never really noticed that before. When you don’t focus on the letters they are easier to read.

Which video games have been trapped on a hardware platform (console/handheld/headset/etc.) that you wish would be ported well?

I was reading about Oculus accounts that haven't been assimilated into Meta accounts being erased, & it got me thinking about games trapped on hardware platforms again. What are some of the games you wish would have good ports across different hardware?

@games

Albbi,

You reminded me of “Drakken” for the snes. Don’t think that was a very good game though.

Albbi,

Oh, this is how I find out he died.

I was a kid when he was prime minister. I just know him from the creation of the GST and his resignation leading to Kim Campbell becoming prime minister.

Albbi,

This train learned from the FF6 train. Can’t get suplexed if you don’t let them off the train.

Albbi,

You can’t just go around denying generation theory like that! We must have in groups and out groups! The media won’t stand for this insult!
