BlanK0,

The meme is becoming a reality. Systemd really is going to try to be everything lmao

BlanK0,

Sounds like a awesome fork, can’t wait!

BlanK0,

In terms of WMs, I would say sway and river are the most straightforward to setup, the rest like dwl and hyprland might require more setup for different reasons like hyprland outside of arch but it works well in my machine

Stop using gitlab.com for projects - Credit card info required for new registrations

If your IP (and possible your browser) looks “suspicious” or has been used by other users before, you need to add additional information for registration on gitlab.com, which includes your mobile phone number and possibly credit card information. Since it is not possible to contribute or even report issues on open source...

BlanK0,

I would just use kdenlive personally since the UI is very straightforward. I think almost every distro has kdenlive, and if it isn’t on the package manager of the distro you can install it as a flatpak as well.

Maybe try distros that have more recent updates, might feel less clunky, like nobara, fedora, openSuse (the semi-rolling release version), garuda and PopOs.

BlanK0,

The data lost that occurred due to the lack of differentiation between year 1900 and 2000 on calendar systems of the older computers?

BlanK0,

Linux mint, if there is any problem try popOS.

Also would recommend trying out the distros before you install them in a virtual machine since it’s easier to try multiple distros without the hassle of setting them up. Since you are in windows at the moment, you probably should try virtualbox

Edit: ventoy is a pretty cool project for when you want to setup a pen with the installation isos to the baremetal.

Why are keyboards getting smaller?

I’m not a true mechanical keyboard enthusiast. I mean I like a good keyboard for typing code, so I rolled with model-Ms in the 80s and 90s, then some expensive Cherry keyboard I only recently retired because it was utterly spent (and it was PS/2), and now I happily use a Wooting Two HE....

BlanK0,

It probably feels more ergonomical, I would also have a smaller if I were to buy one tbh

BlanK0,

Very good video, the content and the editing are superb 👌💯

Here’s a video of Doom running on gut bacteria, proving you really can play the game on anything (www.engadget.com)

An MIT biotech researcher has been able to run the iconic computer game Doom using actual gut bacteria. Lauren Ramlan didn’t get the game going on a digital simulation of bacteria, but turned actual bacteria into pixels to display the 30-year-old FPS, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun....

BlanK0,

I would suggest trying other distros like some people here mention like popOS, nobara, garuda, open suse (try the semi-rolling release one), fedora, endeavourOS, etc.

This might give you a better experience out of the box without too much tinkering, since sometimes compatibilities with the hardware and with some software can occur (for example I tried to do a garuda install in the past and it didn’t work for me but to a lot of people it worked).

Also when you get more experienced with linux, you probably can fix those issues more easily, but for now probably the best option is to try a different distro and see how it goes.

BlanK0,

Not sure 🤔, I have been using a lot ranger lately

BlanK0,

Use ublock origin, it will change your life

BlanK0,

Although it doesn’t have as many features out of the box, you have to setup some stuff.

BlanK0,

I would suggest using Firefox on mobile, you can add the ublock extension there as well

BlanK0,

Looks really sick.

Would definitely buy 🤑

BlanK0,

True, but it would be pretty nice to have a sort of KDE or gnome type project but WM style

BlanK0,

Cosmic DE right? I might give it a go and see how it goes 👍

BlanK0,

Definitely going to keep my eyes on it 👀👍

BlanK0,

More like traditional dynamic tilling WM

BlanK0,

Could be the case 🤔, I think if there was a more accessible WM with no tinkering in config files needed we might see a bigger adoption to the WM workflow (cause it really is more productive)

BlanK0,

Very interesting, but I do wish there was a equivalent but based on a dynamic tilling WM

BlanK0,

Very interesting, going to check it out 🤙

BlanK0,

If there was a regolith but based on river or dwl I would definitely do the switch, cause i do like a more dynamic tilling workflow compared to the manual tilling

BlanK0,

Lets gooooo 🔥

Glad to see growth on flathub 💪

BlanK0,

Welcome aboard! 🐧

If you decide later to test other distros I would highly recommend using a virtual machine in virtualbox. Saves the hassle when it comes to testing distros 👍

BlanK0,

KVM is indeed a much better hypervisor, but it does require some setup with the terminal.

Since he is a beginner I decided to recommend virtualbox since it just works after installing. But if he doesn’t mind setting up things via terminal then KVM is definitely the way.

BlanK0,

I am not saying this proves single-handedly that systemd has vulnerabilities but it is one of probably many out there. I am not saying enterprise is stupid but I could definitely see some sacrifice being possibly made to spend less time setting up utilities on every systemd machine for enterprise work.

BlanK0,

Its just a way to setup the daemons to start every time you boot, I don’t think there is really a maintenance of sorts is just replacing systemctl with sv.

Edit: Works well, I don’t think you should worry about it, probably there is a deeper explanation on the void linux docs

BlanK0,

Exactly this 👌
