Just started up ‘Oxenfree: Lost Signals’.

Loved the first game. Let’s see if the sequel can match it. 😊

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Well, just finished it.

And although it didn’t match the first game, it’s still a nice chill game in the same vain as the first. Same feeling and all that.

As suspected, it’s tough to attempt a continuation of the first story. They dipped a bit much into a few themes that really didn’t seem to fit very well and there’s a distinct lack of interaction with other NPCs. There’s a few random characters you talk to over the radio, but not anything that has any impact on anything.

So it’s a fine enough game if you just want a bit more of the Oxenfree flavor, but don’t expect too much from it.

I can’t eat cops.

A bit too high fat for me. And the types that aren’t, are likely pumped with steroids.

I’ve reached the age where I have to think about who I eat.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I think MS expressed interest in the idea. But I doubt even they saw it as an actual possibility.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Overall, a cruel and short-sighted move from Microsoft

That depends on who and how many they decide to merge into other developer teams and who is let go.

I mean, I doubt most MS higher-ups would know talent if you threw it at them. But whenever there’s big acquisitions, there’s gonna be some house cleaning. So who gets to stay (if they want to) is likely down to last things they have produced.

Redfalls team is done for sure. But Tango Works I don’t know… I can imagine overseas based companies are a more tricky beast to handle. So that’s probably down to some cost/benefit analysis if they go or stay.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Agreed. It’s sadly often the demands of the higher-ups reflects poorly on the guys who has to implement it.

I don’t know any of the Creative Directors on Redfall (or who else might have poked their head in with bright ideas).

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

From what I just skimmed on Twitter, it sounds like the Tango Team is already working on making a new studio.

So they had a bit of a heads-up at least, it would seem.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Booted up old Killing Floor again during the whole Helldivers debacle.

Smaller in scale but similar in concept.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I gotta go with the NES. It’s the only console I ever owned, so…

When they released the mini-nes I snagged that little fucker up so fast.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Sounds awesome.

If you’re interested in suggestions, I’d love to hear a remastered version of Dungeon Keepers Track 5.

I think it’s called “The Dungeon Keeper” or “It’s Construction Time” (dependent on game version).

Addendum: Decent 2 - “Crawl” is a sweet tune as well.

There is an expiration date for IP. But I have little idea what type it goes under.

I just assume the reason old, barely functional games get the odd 1.3kb update every once in a blue moon is to “refresh” that expiration date.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I too would like more on-point classifications.

Like, we got 3 big classifications ARPG, CRPG and JRPG. And I guess that’s nice. But a bit of subclassification would go a long way, imo.

Now if only publishers would use these labels. But to them everything is just an RPG, because that’s an umbella everything fits under.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

In that case, why bother to label them at all?

Let every purchase be a gamble.

I’m just saying thank the gods for Screenshots, ‘Let’s Players’. because labeling everything as just “RPG” is the same as just labeling every type of meat as just “Meat” and graphics cards as just “Graphics Card” in closed packaging with only the companies names to differentiate.

I like specifications on the products I might be buying.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

A lot of people treat others horribly.

Maybe we’re all just shit.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

From the few snippets I’ve seen, they have downright been killing aid workers. It’s so fucked.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

If history has taught us anything, it’s that just giving guns to people is a terrible idea.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Diplomacy is usually the way to go.

I realize that this is a foreign concept for Americans, but yes. The stopping of trade or even the threat of such, is a powerful tool indeed. And there is so many options within that concept that doesn’t involve arming every man, woman and child to the teeth and just letting them go at each other until something is resolved.

Because looking at the countries that encourage such, we see that things just tend to get even more complicated. More complicated and more violent.

Game designer created a Playdate game to pop the question to the love of his life (beehaw.org)

Game designer Aaron (Pikaaroon) today showcased how he built a game to propose to his partner. Having previously worked on Sea of Thieves and Warcraft III: Reforged, he’s no stranger to creating colossal playable experiences. For this incredibly important moment in his life, though, he chose to work with the Playdate. Which I...

Not the most flattering examples they pulled up of games he’s worked on.

One was a failed overhaul and the other got criticized for not having anything to do when it came out.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

If they took the first step and worked towards, or remained, independent and selfpublished, that would make it a bit easier.

But Bethesda, Obsidian, InXile and even Blizzard couldn’t sell their asses to Microsoft fast enough once the offer was on the table.

I get you want to support the Devs, but they kinda made their choice. They had independence, some quite successfully, but they sold it.

Maybe it’s time to look for new studios to support and help up to contest with the old buggers?

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Without having seen the series I’m guessing yours is probably the most accurate descriptor I’ve seen so far.

Whenever it comes to fandoms like this, the camps are always so divided in extremes. And neither camp is usually correct.

I mean, I saw Twisted Metal season 1 and it was not good by means an “actual reviewer” would stand by. But was it enjoyable? Sure. (Probably more so if I was high while watching it.) Will it be remembered? Not by a long shot.

The Fallout TV Show is likely better than TM, but I doubt it will remembered alongside Breaking Bad, The Sopranos or even Futurama for that matter.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

not so bad that Fallout fans won’t stick with it for butchering the IP.

Todd already beat them to the punch on that account.

The only way to go is up

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Are you Todd Howard?

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Oxygen Not Included. I really like this game eventhough I’ll probably never beat it.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Disregarding established lore is a Bethesda specialty. Shouldn’t come as a surprise if the show does it as well.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

The ending of the TM season 1 was literally the annoncement of the tournament. XD

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Todd isn’t busy fixing anything. Let’s be honest.

There’s enough diehard Bethesda fans that will buy anything he shits out. Even F76 has a playerbase now.

Horn of Balance - an indie 2D zelda-like

I'm developing 'Horn of Balance', a 2D zelda-like featuring 12 non-linear dungeons, 2 interconnected worlds and a TON of secrets.

Right now, the project is live on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hornofbalance/horn-of-balance) and we've almost hit the funding goal with just 24 hours left!

There's also a free demo on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2738140/Horn_of_Balance/) and Itch.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have!

Faydaikin,

Probably because Valve doesn’t make games anymore. Not on any serious level anyway.

Most of their games are old as hell, and most of them where in the “proof of concept” relm. They only really made games to push the technology they were working with.

It’d be a poor argument to bring up their old catalog of games from 20 years ago as something that made them a worse company today.

My understanding is that it’s usually a matter of malt.

My old boss (chef) used to make these dark malt buns that were beyond delicious. People would snatch them up like there was no tomorrow.

I think that, regardless of brand, most users just want the most basic (almost blank slate) OS that can run the programs they choose to install.

And that is close to, if not completely, impossible to get if you don’t have a mind for Linux.

Faydaikin,

Why does recipes have to come with a damn essay of it’s origin and an explanation of why the author likes a particular food?

At the very least put all the fluff AFTER the recipe.

Doing my part in Helldivers at the moment.

That game gets my brain firing on all cylinders and although it has It’s frustrating moments, I’d say that overall I think it’s great. It’s one of the few 'Live-Service" games I actually enjoy.

Obligatory short list of great old school RPGs:

Fallout 1 & 2

Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2

Icewind Dale

Planescape Torment

(I think Neverwinter Nights belongs on the list as well, but I can’t attest to it as I’ve never played it.)

You can pick up most of them from GOG.COM for cheap.

There should be enough to keep you occupied for a while.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Just Windows PC. There’s a few of them that people have tried to get to run on Linux over the ages, but success rates varies.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

It’s been a while since I gave it a shot myself. I haven’t fiddled with “The Great Old Ones” on Linux since back in the late 90’s. So you’re likely more of a proper authority on the matter than I.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

That’s too bad. They’re really good games. But good Luck with the search.

Faydaikin,

That goes for quite a few pvp games.

The best camouflage is noob skin, they’ll never know what hit them.

Subnautica and Raft are my go-to relaxed-fuzzy-happy games. Being able to do things at my own pace and just noodle around with whatever I feel like is nice.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I feel like Deodorants and Perfumes for men aren’t as much of a choice as it is chosen for us. There’s like two main smells, “Old Sweat” and “Motor Oil”. Anything other than that is just variations of “Drain Cleaner Citrus”.

Like clothes for men, the selection feels so limited.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

That’s more of a battle between players. The more we buy mtx, the more will be shoved in and the less actual game for everyone.

The best Larian can do is keep being a better example.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

All the more reason to keep it “quite” and expansive like the first game.

BZ was so noisy and tiny. That, combined with other players would be terrible.

I think OG Subnautica could be fun with a Co-op mode. But any more players than that would ruin it.
