What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?

I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....

If anyone out there has never played Minecraft with a group you have got to give it a shot. Exploring and building together is really so much fun, it can’t be understated!

Usually I get a few friends to play on a realm or something but they always lose interest after a couple weeks. I just joined a more regular playgroup with a well maintained server, though, and it’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had in Minecraft.

I can third it. It totally feels like you’re playing an RTS but without having to study build orders and practice your micro.

I love me an underrated Bug superstar. In Black I used a Leavanny as mine and it cleaned house. When I played Omega Ruby my Masquerain carried my team and took me totally by surprise.

The half life games are right at the limit for me in terms of scary video games. They tread the line just enough imo. I think it’s because it’s not just horror the whole time, there’s tons of non scary puzzles and gun-slinging going on to cool down.

If you like Rimworld the Pete Completes series is pretty good. He puts a narrative focus on his playthroughs which makes them super watchable!

My girlfriend and I played through the quest line of where we started in Morrowind (I think?) and had a blast, but once we left we were totally lost! I was really engrossed with the story but all of a sudden we’re just doing something completely different. I was quite disappointed and it left me wondering if we had done something wrong or out of order.

Totally stoked for this! I’ve been craving a good mech game for so long. Pity the Gundam franchise can’t get a decent game.

What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...

Pokemon Arceus but the battles are Pokken 🤔

Toads Turnpike, Wild Woods, and the FZero tracks should all be way higher!

The fact that botw and Mario Odyssey came out in the same year is wild. What a great year. Plus Nier on top of that? Damn.

It’s so irritating that S/V could have been the definitive Pokemon experience but it ended up being what it was. I guess I can’t really blame them for not putting the effort. I mean why should they when everyone bought it anyway (I did too, I’m part of the problem)

I guess for me there was so much fun to be had grinding out an optimized team by breeding and training them up, and the new games sort of trivialized all of that. Totally understand why, but it took a lot out of it for me.

The open world in them is nice initially, but imo they failed to make exploration rewarding enough, so really it’s like… What’s the point.

I still like catching 'em all but it even seems like they’ve de-emphasized that.

Sorry to rant just an old Pokemon fan who can’t really move on.

I recently joined a Survival multiplayer server on Minecraft for the first time and I am having so much fun. The community around it is so positive I really look forward to hopping on every day haha

When is your top ten list of boomer shooter lists coming out?

SevenSwell,
@SevenSwell@beehaw.org avatar

I had no real expectations going in and it’s still one of my favorite games.

Just going to be that guy here but Fallout is neither forgotten nor a cult classic.

Edit just to be more productive: Arcanum is a classic isometric RPG that fits the post much more accurately imo.

I love this game! Always loved how the dog changed to match the setting.

Ogre Battle on the SNES is the original auto-battler. I would really recommend Ogre Battle 64 though, not only is it one of the very few RPGs on the system but it’s got really unique gameplay. It’s got its flaws but I’m such a sucker for the character designs and job/class system that it’s still my favorite game to this day.

This was my first thought too, it's definitely what their language was indicating.

Kinda reminds me of the road blocks they use in Pokemon games. "We dance for no reason, we'll disappear for no reason"

what's your favorite Gameboy game that isn't Pokemon or Mario?

I've just rediscovered my childhood Gameboys, I grew up in the 90s and had an original, a color, an advance and an sp. My game collection has whittled down over the year to the usual suspects, Pokemons, Zelda's, Mario's and some other standards. But I want to dive into some games that 7 year old me would have brushed over. So...

Yeah! I've seen a lot of people give it some undeserved grief but I agree, it's a fantastic game! Totally agree with you about Ritz.

My partner and her mom both play games, way more than me. They're out there!

Man the second half of this year is STACKED

SevenSwell,

I was always really underwhelmed by them, but that was probably because I had already played a Game Boy lol

Same here! Dunno why FH5 didn't have that same magic but 4 was such a blast!

SevenSwell,

Don't forget the amazing music! Man I need to play through it again.

SevenSwell,

Still holding out for Ogre Battle 64, there's really nothing like it.

SevenSwell,
@SevenSwell@beehaw.org avatar

I bought it on launch and I really don't remember having any issues. I'm always surprised it has such a bad rep.

What is it about Lego Island? It feels like there's always something new being discovered with that game.

Multiplayer Co-op games

My friends and I have been exhausting our current library of games and are looking for suggestions. It tends to be pretty hard for us to all meet at the same time. Usually we prefer to do stuff that we can finish in one session on the weekends because one person might have to leave as another person joins. Don't mind if its new...

You gotta play a few rounds of Golf With Your Friends, it's hysterical!

I would also recommend picking up Tabletop Simulator, the amount of board games that game handles through the Steam Workshop is insane.

What game is improved the most by mods?

I know most of the Bethesda RPGs have massive mod support, and there's games like Minecraft that have more mods than anyone can imagine. I would consider those games pretty playable in their vanilla states. Would you say there are any games that were "saved" by modding? Or that are still kept alive by thriving modding...
