As a german this is really hitting me. One of the last “legendary” game developers here, with a very particular style and history. Gothic was also one of the first games I have ever played which got me into the hobby.

still Avatar and since I got Alan Wake 2 in the Epic sale I started to replay the original. The free remaster you got with Alan Wake 2 unfortunately has some nasty visual bugs on amd hardware and too often shatters my immersion with glitches and black screens, but since it only ups the assets I’m fine with the original which is still an awesome looking game and perfectly playable in 2023.
I really like it and since there are no Icons or compass it’s really not that type of game. I have the impression that most of the people just repeat the nonsense they heard somewhere.
Yes they are outpost but you don’t have to clear them like in FarCry, you can simply follow the story or some some nice written side quests or just explore the world on your ikran. The traversal through the world is amazing and really well done by massive and on top of that you have an unobtrusive gear and skill system for your character.
So overall the game is really good and gets really amazing if you’re a fan of the movies or the world.
so what? Farmers farm and designers design and talk about design…just pick the job you want to do. Should I now feel bad that I’m a visual designer instead of a farmer ?
with AI on the rise of course they do. In our sister company they now axed the whole marketing department and introduced their stupid idea to do everything with ai…
A month later they needed some UI designs so the CEO came with an urgent task to my team and I told him to fuck off and leave my team alone and that he should ask chat gpt for some designs…
I feel you. My mom is a nurse, people like her deserve a shitload of money and not the people who are pushing pixels…but it’s the world we live and and we can always try to give back.
It would be really awesome if Massive would have developed Skull and Bones, because I think with their expertise in mmo gameplay and engine development they would have given us something really great, instead of the frankenstein monster we have now.
But related to the topic, Avatar is easily the best looking open world game of this year and I look forward to their Star Wars Game game and the next installment in the Division!
I really don’t care what launcher I have to start (funny thing, for most epic games you don’t even need the launcher) and don’t know what the problem is with it and really don’t care though. And regarding Alan Wake 2, don’t forget that Epic funded the game and made it possible for Remedy do develop it…they are also quit happy with the partnership so I guess it’s a win for Remedy.
I pirated it and will buy it on sale on Steam whenever that happens.

Get some money out of the “game” and then just disappear.
Is this even possible with the way steam handles the payment of developers? If I remember correctly you get the money not directly and steam also freezes a certain part for refunds.
how do you scam people when it was not possible to preorder this game due to steams early access rules?
And after launch you still have the two hour window for refund and the game has no own launcher, so it’s pretty easy to get rid of this game and get your money back after trying out this mess. So if you loose money it would be at least partly on yourself, right?
Don’t get me wrong this game had “I suck” on the forefront since it’s announcement and it had some really shady marketing, but I wouldn’t call it a scam, since you can very easy avoid to loose money on it.
You could say this about most if not all scams I dare say. It’s “your fault” you fell for it.
Only if there is no chance to see your money back. A scam for me is something that is clearly desigend to trick you into buying it and then you out of luck because there is no chance of refunding your money. But in this case everybody who spend more then 20 minutes into it can see what this game is about and has no issues to get their money back.
The game was marketed as the most ambituous MMO since a very long time and apparently what they released is a bad extraction shooter so idk if I could call it anything but a scam.
I completeley agree on the shady marketing but again I dont see the possible advantage for the developers in this. They marketed their game as something that it is clearly not, so people just can check it for themselves or from valid ressources and then refund the game. No damage done except a little loss of time on your end.
And please don’t think that I defend this game, I dont give a flying fuck about it, not even interested in it. I just find that a scam is something like Chronicles of Elyria, where all the kickstarter backers never wil see their money back. But The Day before is just a very terrible video game, nothing more, nothing less, at least in my opinion.
The game is really good, like the Pandora version of FarCry Primal (last FarCry I actually played) but with better graphics und new fun gameplay elements like flying and an awesome open world. But if you are an Avatar fan the game is fucking amazing and an absolute must have imho.
Also the graphics and optimization are really awesome, rocking 110+ fps on a 6900XT on 1440p with FSR 3 and frame generation with everything on high or ultra.
So definitely would give this an 7.5 or 8 for normis and a solid 9 for Avatar fans.
Don’t know what kind of videos or ads you have seen, but the graphics are really that amazing. Last time I saw such an amazing and dense rain forest was in Crysis.
TV shows/movies based on games are usually just a cash grab that play on people’s love of the source materia
I really disagree on that. Most recent videogame adaptions have been pretty awesome: Arcane, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Last of Us, Castlevania. Sure there are some stinkers out there, but the quality really went up in the last years.
No not really. There’s a reason you hire experts to do a job and I for instance hates it if someone try’s to explain to me, a designer, what a good design is…
it’s Chornobyl. They changed to the native Ukrainian romanisation after the brutal attack of Russia. Most of Ukraine has swapped out their russian terms in favor of the ukrainian language.
Do we see also cuts in the management who pretty much created this fucking situation? Why is always the normal people who have to go necessarily, but the management stays.
They do not have the quality titles to support their stream of acquisitions.
of course not, they thought they would be bought up by some saudis and that deal went sour. At least the people responsible for that stupid deal need to be fired.

Get fucking rid of twitter. I will never understand why people still cling to this platform, not in general, not after all the news, the bots, the right winged dipshits and everything else…what is so hard about it?
