jonne,

Canonical has wasted so much dev time trying to reinvent the wheel, only to go back to using the thing everyone else is using years later.

jonne,

Unfortunately it’ll take 10 years to build the printer.

jonne,

Seems like a confusing concept for a lot of conservatives.

jonne,

Fascism worked out great for industrialists in Nazi Germany. In fact, even after the war they faced no consequences. I don’t get why you people don’t see that the billionaire class would be totally fine with a fascist system.

'Horrifying' Footage Shows IDF Killing Two Gazans, Burying Their Bodies With a Bulldozer (www.commondreams.org)

Video footage broadcast Wednesday by Al Jazeera shows Israeli soldiers gunning down two Palestinians on the coast of northern Gaza, even as one of them waves what appears to be a piece of white fabric. The video then shows Israeli soldiers burying the bodies with a bulldozer....

jonne,

Because it’s a technical solution for a problem that could be solved by a fucking phone call. The lack of food in Gaza is solely due to Israel blocking trucks at the border crossings. All Biden needs to do is call Netanyahu, tell him to let all the trucks in or he gets no more weapons, and the people in Gaza will stop starving within days. It’s not an infrastructure problem, it never was, and there’s no reason to spend months building a dock.

jonne,

And the reason Gaza never had a port was because Israel has a naval blockade on the strip. They have always been kept dependent on what could be imported from Israel.

jonne,

It’s infuriating. He gets treated with so much deference and kid gloves, and he’s still acting like he’s being persecuted. And the worst part is that his base eats it all up.

jonne,

It’s fucking ridiculous. Anyone else would be in prison by now. This guy just gets to run out the clock because everyone in the justice system is too afraid to look biased.

jonne,

She had surgery about 6 months ago and hasn’t been seen in public since. Conspiracy theories started spreading about why she hadn’t been seen in ages, so a week ago or so they released a very Photoshopped photo of her and her kids that was so bad it had to be retracted and fuelled the conspiracy theory stuff even more.

And now I guess finally they’re admitting it’s cancer. They could’ve handled this whole thing a lot better.

jonne,

I think it was basically a bunch of photos stitched together, probably because they couldn’t get all the kids to smile at the same time.

jonne,

This would have the opposite effect for Ukraine. It would cause Russians to actually rally around the flag and be more pro war. The Ukrainian strategy has been to just kill Russian combatants and hope they kill enough that Russians themselves start protesting the war on the home front.

jonne,

You can still condemn it even if you don’t know exactly who’s behind it.

Carnage on the streets of Port-au-Prince as world stalls on a promised intervention for Haiti (www.cnn.com)

A woman hustles her young child into a waiting car, half-dragging him as she shields his eyes. Other family members follow with heavy suitcases, averting their eyes too. They’re leaving the city, even though the drive through gang-controlled roads is risky....

jonne,

Yeah, there’s totally no risk with this strategy and I can’t think of any time this went horribly wrong in the past.

Major Asset Seizure Likely as Trump Can't Afford Bond for NY Fraud Case (www.commondreams.org)

Less than a month after New York Attorney General Letitia James said she would be willing to seize former Republican President Donald Trump’s assets if he is unable to pay the $464 million required by last month’s judgment in his civil fraud case, Trump’s lawyers disclosed in court filings Monday that he had failed to...

jonne,

It’s probably going to be one of those things where he keeps insisting that whatever property comes with the Trump brand, despite this adding negative value.

Wonder why they use average instead of median, which would be more meaningful. You can make the average go up just by raising the wages of the top 1% workers.

jonne,

Yep, you’re right, I meant median.

jonne,

You don’t want to play Mafia Wars with your manager?

jonne,

Just shows that the FBI is filled with reactionary dickheads. Don’t expect an agency like that to have changed since they murdered Civil rights leaders.

jonne,

He’s so poor he doesn’t even have a bank account! And I guess share a pornhub account with his son.

jonne,

I know, let’s try to ban the most popular social network among the youth!

jonne,

No, the relevant agencies (I think FDA?) control how drugs are scheduled, so essentially it’s just a case of that agency making the change. I don’t even think the President needs to be involved in that.

It's kinda wild that zombo.com still exists (www.zombo.com)

zombo.com was launched in 1999. I remember in high school you’d see the new fancy web kiosk’s the school put up just displaying it as a joke. and being locked out of the address bar so you couldn’t change it. The fact that this url has been renewed, maintained, and updated with all the advancements web browsers have made...

jonne,

Maybe if Biden cares about democracy, he’d do the things that voters want?

jonne,

Iirc there were certain things they weren’t allowed to mock, one of which was the fact that he wasn’t really a billionaire.

Schiff says he hopes Intelligence Community ‘will dumb down’ briefings for Trump (thehill.com)

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said the U.S. Intelligence Community should “dumb down” briefings for former President Trump when he receives classified information as the eventual GOP nominee, voicing concerns about whether Trump could share the information....

jonne,

Would be a good idea to start breaking precedent for once.

jonne,

I mean, look at what they’re doing in Pakistan right now. They didn’t like Khan so they’ve put him in prison, and when his party still won the election despite this, they tried to steal the election (and the state department still hasn’t said anything about this).

jonne,

Still, a more deft politician would avoid using that specific idiom when it comes to a conflict between Jews and (predominantly) Muslims.

jonne,

How does that make a difference? Even if it wasn’t on a hot mike, he would’ve risked the senator or someone around telling it to the press or anything like that. Even in ‘private’ conversation politicians should be careful about what they say.

jonne,

Definitely not the point of the article, but WTF did this mean?

The dog was shot and the camera recovered only days later.

The use of the passive voice implies the IDF shot their own dog?

jonne,

All because of a small constituency in one state that’s not a swing state any more.

jonne,

I wonder if there’s anything different that would cause it to be harder for them to import things.

jonne,

Hamas’ RPGs are already fucking them up, I don’t think it takes an F35.

jonne,

Talking him down while sending more weapons in violation of US law?

jonne,

Yeah, they started out by killing entire villages to take their houses. The whole Zionist project was built on blood.

jonne,

They’re promised well paying jobs, they don’t necessarily know what they’re getting themselves into. I’m sure whoever is recruiting them is incentivised to lie about the actual situation.

jonne,

If he wants to use it for gaming over steam link, he’ll need a graphical interface. I use a PC this way as well: headless most of the time, although realistically you’ll want to use a monitor once in a while to configure steam and figure out gfx issues (and in my case, if it boots it defaults to a 640x480 display, which I need to fix by attaching an actual monitor, I’m sure there’s a way around it, but meh).

jonne,

Oh look at who’s actually using sexual violence as a weapon of war.

jonne,

The goal is to power sensors in agricultural contexts, and if that works, great. You could do some amazing things if you know exactly what’s in your soil (humidity, nutrients, etc) without having to first lay cables to create a powered network or whatever. It could save water and stop farmers from using excessive fertiliser.

jonne,

Yeah, I’d probably go with NTFS in OP’s situation, provided the steam games work with that setup. Back when I needed compatibility between windows and Linux I did it that way, but performance wasn’t really a consideration then.

jonne,

It’s a real shame that generally lefties don’t really care about or ‘get’ software freedom. You should be pushing for free software on all levels. In your personal life and in government. It’s crazy how much power a company like Apple, Microsoft or Google has over everyone.

jonne,

Screen isn’t on the whole time, you can fast forward, etc. Not that I think it’s healthy to be spying on what your kids do.

jonne,

Yeah, same for me. Now that I’m in the position of raising a kid, I’m not sure how to tackle this.

jonne,

Yeah, that’s the thing, those apps don’t really give kids the sort of privacy we enjoyed as kids. It’s probably better to limit access to safe apps or something like that, depending on age.

jonne,

Yeah, I’m thinking something along these lines. Offline first.

The notability rule has always been enforced way too strictly to my liking. They’d delete articles about bands that had albums released and reached the charts and everything just because they weren’t notable enough, which makes it hard to find out stuff about some random band you heard.

Then on the other hand you can find an article on every Pokemon on Wikipedia.

Mind you, having those is fine, but that should also mean you shouldn’t delete articles about highways, bands and minor celebrities either. It’s not a physical encyclopaedia that you need to fit on a shelf, an article that doesn’t interest you isn’t really getting in anyone’s way, and might be a valuable resource for someone else. As long as something’s not just spam, it shouldn’t get deleted.
