kn33,

Been doing fine for quite a few years already, thanks

kn33,

“fine” is a bit generous there

kn33,

Nah, you’re right. The speakers get hooked up with straight wire or maybe banana connectors.

kn33,

That’s not what’s going on here? I’m lost

kn33,

Since we’re breaking everything, I want to use dozenal with the Pitman symbols and “deck/el” pronunciations.

kn33,

I’ve driven a manual once - in a parking lot. Most of my driving has been in an automatic. I agree with this. I should have to press the “go” pedal to go, not just release the “stop” pedal. Thankfully, I now have an EV where I can choose to have it stop when I release the “go” pedal and not go again until I press the “go” pedal.

kn33,

Remember that “feeding 50 people once” is the same as feeding 10 people 5 times. With a large family, that could be as little as a week of food.

kn33,

What was the motivation? It’s easy to say “antisemitism” but like if that was the case - why here instead of a synagogue? And why did they put in minimum effort, accomplish nothing, and quit? It doesn’t make sense.

kn33,

It’s important to know that they are - you gotta know how people get here to know how to prevent it

kn33,

Just cause a shooter also did it doesn’t mean that he’s impersonating the shooter.

kn33,

I don’t care if it’s needed or not. The state should not have a monopoly on violence. Under No Pretext.

I need to wake up early (lemmy.world)

All the vibrating alarm clocks I could find do not sync with your phone, and have to be set manually. I thought about getting an Arduino, but then I will have to build the whole thing by myself. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is to get a programable vibrator. But most of them are either very expensive of look...

kn33,

I use that combination of hardware and Sleep as Android so it starts with just the watch (no noise in the beginning) then escalates to nose and requires me to scan a QR code in the kitchen to fully dismiss.

kn33,

The last time a recruiter texted me, I replied with that meme. I haven’t heard from a recruiter since, so it appears to have worked.

kn33,

Alright, that’s it. This person needs war crimes done to them.

kn33,

I was at work and already in hot water for not spending enough time working. Also, it’s a shitpost.

kn33,

It evacuates the waste before it’s waste

kn33,

What does this statement mean then? Why would you pirate something if you had no interest in it? If it’s interesting enough to download, it must have been worth something to you.

Sure. But it doesn’t mean it’s worth the asking price to me. Because I can’t negotiate on that price, my interest is effectively worth nothing to the company.

Let’s pretend for a minute that piracy wasn’t an option. In that scenario, I simply wouldn’t watch it. Therefore, there’s no potential that the company will get money from me, and there’s no opportunity for them to get money. Because there’s no opportunity, there’s no opportunity cost for the company to me pirating the content.

That’s what people are talking about when they talk about the company losing money to piracy. They’re talking about the unrealized potential income of people that would have paid for the content, but didn’t because they pirated it instead. The counterpoint to that is that there’s no way I’m going to pay for it. Therefore, there’s no unrealized potential income. They’re not out of anything by me pirating their company.

kn33,

At this point I think we’re actually just beating a pot of glue

kn33,

The disk will be decrypted on boot, but then they’ll have to contend with needing a password to log in

kn33,

Im really confused why people think TPM needs to be involved in anyway when using LUKS.

Because it’s convenient

kn33,

doesn’t allow you to do anything you can’t do without it.

That’s false. It allows you to not need a password to unlock the volume at boot.

kn33,

That’s why I like skiing. There’s a view, and then something to do when you’re done taking it in.

kn33,

I’m guessing there’s two options for adults to choose from, but only one option for children. If you’re filling this out for a child, you choose the “children” option to indicate that they’ll have the entree for children. It’s just structured kinda funny.

kn33,

Or don’t eat. I agree, it doesn’t seem very accommodating

kn33,

I think I backed this Kickstarter when I was in high school. I’ve been out of college for 6 years.

kn33,

It’s an accessibility thing. If you can’t press two keys at once, then you can turn it on and press the modifier key, then the active key.

kn33,

They were still supporting that? I’m surprised. I would’ve thought it would’ve been dropped when Microsoft did, or when Steam did, or when Google did, or…

kn33,

Eh, that seems enough time to learn enough to complete SE if you’re the type to go for the challenge

kn33,

I mean, “spaz” as an insult is generally regarded as offensive to people with disabilities that cause muscle spasms. Even if it’s “spasm”, I can see where the offensiveness angle makes sense.

kn33,

Everyone’s missing the real issue. Springs, motors, or pneumatics don’t matter if there’s something in the way preventing it from closing. A cheap fridge on an uneven floor will close the door itself if there’s nothing in the way, but if the jug of milk is hanging off the edge of the shelf with no room behind it, the door isn’t closing without something getting damaged.

kn33,

Different people have different priorities. Sure, pay and benefits is a factor that just about everyone considers. The difference lies in the weight that factor holds for them compared to other factors such as a genuine enjoyment from their work, wishing to avoid taking from the strike fund, or any other factor that matters to them.

For most people, the consideration works out in favor of a strike. In a large enough population, though, it won’t for some people. 95%+ is really good. Let’s take it and not alienate those that didn’t vote for it. That leads to attrition of the union.

kn33,

The members are the union, though? So the union is managing the fund and deciding when it’s necessary through this vote.
