loops,

Cliff Empire. I’m still on the tutorial technically, I think. There was one part where I had to produce 250 extra power (250 kW I think?), and even though I had used up all the available space pretty effectively, I never got above ~120. So, I went ahead and started building a nuclear reactor… which only got me to ~170. I eventually passed that step somehow. I think it was because there were more people? Anyway, after that I clicked through all the steps I passed (about 20 of them) before I was producing anything close to 250 ‘power’ and I’m pretty sure I missed something; because my reactor caught on fire and exploded. Turns out the fire fighting drones never got water, because apparently I have to set it’s delivery priority manually… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So I rage quit, and here I am complaining about it. Beautiful game though.

loops,

I wish more companies did this; however, I believe most CEO’s have the biased view that everyone has at least some money to spare which, as you probably know (likely on personal level), isn’t true.

I understand that participating in cultural aspects of society must cost money due to the very nature of economics (if you want the artist to continue to make art, make sure they don’t starve to death) but ‘pirating’ things is there not only as a stop gap to terrible service and personal risk (privacy violations, etc.), but also as an equalizer between those that have, and those that don’t.

loops,

Definitely. I recall a time in my life where I was working while still living with my parents. Needless to say I had A LOT of money I didn’t know what to do with. I ended up with about 2 storage bins of books and CD’s. I eventually got rid of them when computers became much more capable, but I think I would still buy them if I had extra income. I doubt I will though for at least another 2 decades, considering all the student debt I have. Who would’ve thought that loading people with crippling financial debt would be bad for the economy?

I live for pedantry. (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞

A guy named Bill Gates also tried this, and was wildly successful. The platform is colloquially known as a PC.

loops,

Certainly, I myself am on a Linux machine with a 1070Ti and a Xeon 1650 processor that’s never left it’s socket since it was placed in there in some factory. I would guess it’s somewhat rare to have a machine such as this because it was originally meant as a workstation (I can tell because the door has handles on the inside that make it an effective shield), and I would guess anyone who does have this set up will have Windows installed on it.

That being said, differences in software between Windows and Linux is slowly becoming irrelevant with the continued development of proton and the various FOSS alternatives (i.e. GIMP replacing Photoshop). For the most part, the only differences these days are certain games from certain studios that for whatever reason decided not to check a box that says “Yes, I want this to work on Linux.” This of course disregards any specialist software that was only ever developed for Windows, which I’ve read numerous examples of.

The Steam Deck is changing how normies think of gaming PCs.

Just thought I’d share something I thought was pretty interesting. I have a mother in law who is… well let’s just say she’s a stereotypical older mom who doesn’t own a computer, just an iPad. During the pandemic, she started getting into Nintendo games and bought herself a Switch. Fast forward a few years later and...

The only thing I don’t like about Deep Rock Galactic is having to watch both the publishers, and the studios logo sequences every time I start the game.

Firefox + NoScript + U-block Origin and you’ll never experience anything like that again but you will break some sites; however, those sites deserve to be broken.

Just want a solid gaming laptop (reddit.com)

My mom likes to play No Man’s Sky and Valheim, but her Asus TUF started freezing on games. RMA found no problems and sent it back to her but it still happens. I ordered a Legion for her but now I see these posts about all Nvidia 40-series laptops freezing up. What’s a gaming mom supposed to do?

loops, (edited )

Maybe get a Steamdeck if portability is important, otherwise get a desktop. IMO gaming laptops don’t last as long because of all the heat stress. Really just my opinion though.

*Funny, just seen this other post on Beehaw about valve selling refurbished Steamdecks. Just thought I would share just in case.

Backwards compatibility is the best feature of Xbox, and I don't understand why Sony is so far behind on this

When I got the XSX recently, it was so I can play Starfield when it comes out. That was basically the only reason. I did not realize the extensive backwards compatibility that this thing has. But since getting it, I’ve been playing FF13 trilogy, Fable games, Dragon Age series, Lost Odyssey, etc. Basically all games of note...

This is part of the reason why I haven’t thought of buying a console since the PS3. There are a lot of games that were made for the ps2/1 that I really loved and I can probably never play them again because PlayStations lack that feature. They have effectively been erased, which is really sad.

I sold my PS3 a long time ago, and I’ve been using Steam on my PC since then. Now I won’t have to worry about losing access to titles I bought just because they’re locked to certain hardware that will eventually not be made any more.

What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?

I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....

loops,

I’m a simple man. I see post related to Factorio, I updoot it.

loops,

DOOM 2016 didn’t work on Linux duo to the DRM being incompatible with proton.

What’s really stupid about that is the devs don’t have to do any extra work to make it compatible, all they have to do is check a box saying they’d like it to work with proton.

loops,

At least some of take a super unique approach… like being reincarnated as a vending machine.

loops,

Yeah, that was kind of my point lol.

Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou

It’s actually alright. Not something I’d rewatch though.

loops,

Have you played recently? After update 8 they added lumen, and I think this is part of it.

loops, (edited )

Yep. It’s why I almost failed my courses last year. 😅

*Quick edit: It’s even more beautiful now after update 8; they added lumen (a SUPERIOR lighting effect). If you think this is beautiful, play it now and be bedazzled.

loops,

Horizon: Zero Dawn, almost non-stop. The mechanics can be a bit finicky sometimes, but the story and world building keep me coming back.

There are a lot of little things that I really don’t like about it and these almost certainly exist because it was originally exclusive to Playstation. I sometimes find my self a bit irked because there was so much more they could’ve done to make it a classic. Instead, it’s just good enough.

loops,

Afaik it's not done being developed. Wube is working on another update for it still, while at the same time ironing out remaining bugs. Of course it's not as fast is it was before 1.0, but they're still chugging away at it.

loops,

You might like Satisfactory. They added a peaceful mode recently and the game is heckin' beautiful after the last update. Sometimes I'll just stop playing the game and look at things now.

loops, (edited )

The new Season of Deep Rock Galactic. I don't really like this seasons weapon frameworks, but there's still some cool cosmetics to unlock. Like a plague doctor mask with a fancy hat. :3

^^*shpelling^^

loops,

it requires an always online connection even though I’m essentially playing it as a single player game.

That is awful. What are their reasons for that?

loops,

Same. I really loved the first two Diablos, but I wouldn’t touch the new one because of it. I’ll just wait a decade or so and emulate it.
