magikmw,

Interesting. Do they point to arch repos or provide their own like Manjaro? I haven’t thought about a rolling release atomic distro before.

magikmw,

I like this take. If anything, languages knowledge helps with dialogue, not only thanks to speaking the language. Seeing how language and history interacts between peoples gives a better understanding of the complex modern contexts.

magikmw,

Editing and changes no, creating new maybe? But likely WoC blocks this because they can’t have players make up their own stories, that’s against the spirit of role playing games (jkjk, shareholder interests).

magikmw,

When your flatland country gets marched on from both east and west several times you get pretty good at cavalry.

magikmw,

Surprised this isn’t on the noncredibledefence community.

magikmw,

IIRC krunner works as a commandline tool, so maybe you could do what you want with something like yakuake, or even make a wrapper for krunner with those additional options.

It seems like something I could use as well. I’ll note it down to take a look later.

magikmw,

I’ve recently used dioxus with rust to build a native app with webview. Way cheaper than electron and the like.

magikmw,

My, I like to think - healthy, version: I don’t have energy for this.

magikmw,

Saying mods are not an integral part of a Bethesda game is a real hot take there.

If you want to see how devs should approach mod makers so it works out for everyone, take a look at Ludeon does it with Rimworld.

magikmw,

And the regression from last patch with drag and drop freezing Dolphin entirely seems unfixed. Honestly I think it’s the first time in 7 years I’m affected by an annoying KDE bug, but it still stings regressions are not first priority :(

magikmw,

I’ve just checked and it’s fixed. Must have sliped by me.

magikmw,

I found a report so I didn’t do it myself again. It seems it’s fixed even though the report isn’t.

magikmw,

I’m both impressed and bemused why they’d use bash.

magikmw,

Software predeterminitism - If it were good code it would have saved itself.

magikmw,

I had to re-enable that option in spectacle settings on Fedora 40. But it does work.

Tried Arch for the first time | My experience and impressions (lemmy.ml)

I used linux intermittently in the last 15 or so years, migrating from early Ubuntu versions, to Manjaro, Pop!_OS, Debian, etc. And decided to give Arch a try just recently; with all the memes around its high entry point, I was really expecting to struggle for a long time to set it up just as I want....

magikmw,

I hope GIMP 3.0 is the blender moment for GIMP. We’ll see.

magikmw, (edited )

Honestly I recommend to anyone who can do some html and css to try Animotion or some other reveal.js based framework. I can’t look at PowerPoint and derivatives anymore.

Edit: actual link, but check the other tool too! animotion.pages.dev

magikmw,

My Linux usage was: Ubuntu, then Arch, then I got tired of it and took a break from Linux. I found Fedora KDE in 2017 and been using it ever since. Only reinstalled once to switch to btrfs and it went surprisingly smooth.

I like Arch, and I love the wiki, but I appreciate sane defaults and ease of use. I’d rather optimize down than pull features out of repos.

Another distro I’d check would be Suse, or one of the immutables, starting with the Fedora KDE one. When I have time for it.

magikmw,

I ment this, poor naming clash. Your link is interesting too!

magikmw,

Eh you can go with a blacklist approach and try to selectively block tracking instead of whitelisting everything until a site works.

gotta get a new printer

Greentings As youve seen from the the title, i want to get a new printer as a present for my parents. Sadly they are still windows peasants and my mom somehow thinks that the HP printer on her desk has been a good financial investment, even though it has costed us more than 300 bucks in ink over the past 2 years....

magikmw,

It’s 100% calculated. The controllers of glassdoor decided to kill the site, likely persuaded with money, coercion or both.

magikmw,

Gonna tell me you’re gonna install grass on arch (btw) next.

magikmw,

I’m not even surprised.

magikmw,

I’m fairly sure the project is funding Linux kernel contributions, so if you’re using latest kernel releases the improvements mentioned are already in (if your desktop manager makes use of them).

magikmw,

I’m getting a headache trying to understand this title.

magikmw,

Yeah if I’m biking on a sidewalk I’m making sure to not bother pedestrians. Bike is a guest there.

magikmw,

I agree. A lot of profits wouldn’t be cash saved, for one taxes that you aren’t losing to multinational corporations headquartered in Ireland or Cyprus.

Cybersecurity costs would also likely go down due to most malware being exploited isn’t targeting desktop Linux.

magikmw,

There’s a bunch of things french are doing themselves instead of importing exactly because they want to maintain technological independence and promote local industry.

magikmw,

Sure. For a while tho, it would be easier to avoid sweeping ransomware incidents.

magikmw,

In polish we have an idiom for rare books that directly translates to ‘white crow’. Incidentally French say ‘merle blanc’ - ‘white blackbird’. French influenced polish a lot during late modernity. Anyway where was I.

Ah, yeah likely not very rare, they must have messed a whole print run and decided to sell it off anyway, maybe at a discount, since it’s not a limited hardback illuminated Shakespeare’s works in 5 tomes.

Then again… Weirder things have collection value.

Control - the first game to get me to turn on cheats in decades

I finished Control last week, likely the best game to marry a creepy funhouse with a sprawling government office that you’ll ever play. I was up and down on this one for a few months. There’s a fun narrative and plenty of atmosphere, but I wasn’t always enjoying the gameplay....

magikmw,

FYI Old Gods of Asgard are basically Poets of the Fall, a real band that collaborated with Remedy at least since Max Payne 2.

If I listened to Late Goodbye on tape you couldn’t hear it anymore with how I much I abused it.

magikmw,

Holy crap this might make me go buy a mech kit.

magikmw,

We would care, but it’s not like we’d ever know, so…

magikmw,

Reports of months of crunch before Cyberpunk’s release make the image pretty clear. There’s bunch of small indies and some midsized contractor companies in Poland, but not many on AAA level. Techland, CDP and People Can Fly (I think they are independent from Epic again?) are the only ones I can think of. Oh 11bit maybe.
