Obsidian responds to 'concerns' about Avowed's Xbox and PC visuals and scope (www.windowscentral.com)

The trailer fails to show much in its 2-minute run time. To clear up misconceptions though I’ll say this, the game is big and open, it is unfair to compare it to Outer Wilds (I think Feargus is trying to keep expectations down just in case), which I think it is nothing alike. The studio that did the trailer did some...

What's the latest video game genre rabbit hole you jumped into?

For me it was minesweeper clones. I got frustrated one day and decided to learn how to be good at minesweeper. After beating the medium and large boards a couple times I looked on Steam for minesweeper versions, and turns out there's a whole genre of clones. Some of them are direct clones of the game, while others are very...

It has a lot of different mechanics. It's more of a combination of minesweeper with nonograms (aka picross) where the idea is that there is that you can solve all puzzles without any guessing. Check out the Steam page

The demo is only a few days old and people instantly modding Bloodborne models into it is absolutely hilarious. People REALLY want Bloodborne on PC huh.

It's pretty overwhelming at the start but I feel once you get past the starting area the game really clicked for me.

A company called Atari is releasing a brand-new 2600 cartridge this year (arstechnica.com)

The company that currently owns the Atari name and trademarks has decided to give owners of the old Atari Video Computer System (aka the Atari 2600) something new to do. Mr. Run and Jump is a new Atari-published platformer that is coming to vintage Atari consoles in cartridge form, complete with a box and instruction manual....

Anybody remember the Atari VCS? It was such a total disaster that the developer of the first exclusive game on it wasn't notified that his game was going to be on the console.

It was released 2 years ago! The fact that nobody's ever heard of it is another testament to modern Atari :^)

I see, I had no idea the old 2600 was called the VCS.

I guess that's yet another example of how confusing modern Atari is

Elden Ring is such an easy choice. Just a fantastic open world that encourages exploration and discovery. I think you should give it a second shot OP.

I knew I was forgetting something important in the post, thanks for reminding me that we have a release date for it!

I've never played an Armored Core game but this looks really cool. I'm glad they're strictly trying to make it not like Dark Souls.

Why wouldn't games have guns? If you're going to have combat in your game, it's either ranged combat or melee combat. Starfield has both, why wouldn't an open world sci-fi game have guns?

There's no lack of games without guns. Hell, there's no lack of games that don't even have combat now. You just need to find games you enjoy.

It's not at odds, it's the way you engage with enemies. Starfield at its core is still an RPG, gunplay is just one facet to it. You can choose not to fight enemies and just explore, talk to NPCs, build bases... You could decide to play melee or do different builds like stealth instead of just blasting enemies. It's a choice.

That's like saying Skyrim is just a mindless game about whacking people with swords. Combat is a part of it, but the game isn't about combat, and they've never advertised it as such.

The wingsuit in Just Cause 3 might be the most fun traversal I've seen in any game, it's just a shame there's nothing much to explore and the world is pretty boring. I've always enjoyed playing it for a little bit but the game's kinda shallow to warrant ever finishing it or actually taking quests seriously.

It's crazy, I have 80 hours in this game and love it a lot but never came close to finishing it.

I picked it up in Early Access and went all the way to the frost dungeon, which was where content ended.

I picked it up on release and played up until the desert dungeon, then stopped playing because I got busy.

I the picked it up like 2 years later and forgot where I stopped or what I was doing. I want to play it again but I feel like I need to start a new game again.

I love them as well, but I don't think they'll ever get a sequel considering The Evil Within 2 underpreformed :(

It's awesome that the handheld market is having a comeback, I might pick up one of these instead of a gaming laptop when I decide to upgrade.

Mindustry is an awesome strategy game that combines Factorio with tower defense.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart (ridiculous name I know) is one of the most underrated games ever. It's a super polished, high quality Kart game with an insane amount of mods and maps. The online isn't that populated but the singleplayer time trial is TONS of fun. If you like hunting for medals, it can be a pretty deep rabbit hole. There's a sequel in development but no release date.

GzDoom is the most popular Doom source port and there's a practically infinite amount of user generated content. If you don't know where to start I highly recommend Doom: The Golden Souls Remastered and Castlevania: Simon's Destiny. They're good enough to be premium games.
