Geek_King,

This reminds me of how in a lot of sci-fi universes, every planet the characters go down to has earth standard gravity. When in reality there would be a ton of variance, some planets would have 20% stronger, or weaker, or crushing.

Expeditionary Force book series was a breath of fresh air, portray space battles how they probably would play out, at such long ranges you could move your ship and avoid a directed energy weapon. The books also do a great job with there being more variety in planetary conditions too. I loved that series. The audio books are fantastic, R.C. Bray does a wonderful job!

Geek_King,

Yeah, you wouldn’t, but in those books, the ai of ships have random evasive movements they perform to make some shots miss.

Geek_King,

Under no circumstance did I expect Trump to gracefully accept a loss. Stone is just stating the obvious.

Geek_King,

Oh Hi-Rez you trash company. You ruined one of my favorite franchises of all time, not once, but twice with Tribes Ascend, and Tribes 3.

Geek_King,

That’s a tough decision to make, especially in today’s gaming marketing, but I applaud them for stepping back and recognizing what they had wasn’t good enough to sell. Blizzard made that decisions years ago with Starcraft Ghost, the Blizzard of today wouldn’t make that same call any more.

Geek_King,

7DTD is fun, but The Fun Pimps have made some perplexing design decisions. Luckily there are a ton of great mods that all have unique spins. I prefer the Darkness Falls mod, it fixes a lot of the stupid design decisions of the original makers, and ramps the difficulty since vanilla 7DTD can be pretty easy after you get built up. Darkness Falls adds supernatural demons to the mix in the late game, and a ton of new mechanics, I absolutely love it.

Geek_King,

Fantastic, Undead Legacy was on my radar! My best friend and I have played hundreds of hours of Darkness Falls and have loved every moment of it. We’ve a bit worn out on DF, but I’ll keep Undead Legacy in mind the next time we want to do another play through of a 7DTD mod! What’s the “anti-bullshit” mod do by the way?

Geek_King,

That right there is incredibly good to know. Those little changes would make it bearable! Thanks for the information!

Geek_King,

I’m hopeful! Doom 2016 was incredible, and Doom Eternal was a massive disappointment to me. So to hear them re-evaluate their approach to combat. Sounds like we have a chunk of time to wait to find out though, they’re slating it for a 2025 release.

Geek_King,

Doom 2016 had a dark moody vibe, you learned more and more about who you were playing. It was very well placed, the environments felt lived in, as you explored you get the impression the facilities housed people up until pretty recently, you can see damage to equipment, signs of fighting. You start learning that the process of corrupting the company was slow at first, and ended with crazy shit like HR asking for volunteers for ritual sacrifice.

Compared with Doom Eternal, which was very arcadey, stages didn’t have that “Real life place” feel, instead they felt more arcadey, made in a customer available level editor instead of handcrafted environments. The feeling of atmosphere from Doom 2016 was gone, replaced by weapons and power ups appearing as floating rotating icons, and the occasional Holo projector which would play a ham-fisted tongue in cheek “HR Messages”. It felt more like Quake 3 arena then the moody atmospheric game that Doom 2016 was. Also the combat was annoying to me, having to paper rock scissors enemies by only using certain weapons for certain enemies, forced to chainsaw to get a shower of glowing power ups and ammo was the opposite of the look and feel of Doom 2016. Doom Eternal felt like a cartoony caricature of Doom 2016 in the worst possible ways.

No sir, I didn’t like Doom Eternal.

Geek_King,

That’s a wall of beef. It’s like the painter hadn’t ever seen a bull, but just had a vague description and extrapolated.

Geek_King,

Now, knowing this information, I love it even more. Thank you!

Windows Rulecall (lemdro.id)

alt textA comic Windows OS: “We have a brand new feature called Windows Recall that you might like!” Guy: “Oh boy! What does it do?” Windows: “It helps you find anything you’ve seen on your PC by using clues you give or by letting you scroll through your past activity!” Guy: “Wow! How does this tech work?”...

Geek_King,

I thought that feature was related to the expensive for pay Copilot feature? The recall feature listed a huge amount of space required for it to work, something like 275 GB, SSD. There is no way that’ll just be a baked in feature in normal home Windows. Am I wrong Lemmy? To be clear, that feature can F right off.

Geek_King,

To be fair, there isn’t a whole ton of legitimate reasons why civilians need .50 cal rifles. I wonder if republicans will oppose the bill because anything that infringes on the rights of guns is abhorrent to them. Or if they’ll champion it, because Mexican Cartel’s use .50 cal rifles.

I’m willing to bet it’ll be the first option, because just like the border bill, they don’t want anything that’ll take away the drum they like to beat to rile up their base. If they only like complaining about a problem to scare people, and actively avoid fixing that problem.

Geek_King,

Oh man! It’s releases on all platforms at once, even PC!!! Normally PC comes out like a year later. That’s fantastic!

Geek_King,

I know, my best friend and I were watching like hawks, waiting for the traditional 1 year to elapse for a US console release. Normally it’s 1 year after Japan’s release then it comes out in the US on Playstation. Then 6 months too a year later it comes out on PC. It’s wonderful it’ll come out on PC at the same time as the consoles. That way my best friend and I can play on PCs in the same room, get better FPS, and larger screens since we won’t need to split screen for local coop.

Geek_King,

It sure would be nice if the political opinions of an actor wasn’t important enough to report on.

Geek_King,

I think I got the most play time out of R-Type. Honorable mentions, Ghostbusters, Bomber Raid, Rambo, Space Harrier.

Geek_King,

I can’t really say that Ghostbusters for the Master System was a GOOD game lol. I agree though, that map twisted my brain trying to understand the perspective the buildings were drawn in. I also only played the game with a money cheat so I could afford stuff. I think I beat the game a few times, the part at the end of having to time running past the Marshmallow Man sucked.

Geek_King,

I hope that works! I never got into digital downloads on consoles in any big way, how companies make games from the online shop inaccessible once the console goes end of life is a damn shame! It feels like the more and more consoles move toward digital only, the less we’ll have viable retro consoles in the future.

Geek_King,

I purchased Palworld today, started it up, I made a character, and walked around a bit, but I had to exit the game to go get an errand done. I get this game is aping pokemon hard, but the thing that struck me hard was how much they ripped off the “New Area Discovered” sequence Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom used. Palworld did the same behavior as I left a cave, almost the same sound/music clip, the font looked the same, the color too. Yeah, very much felt like a copy/paste, what a bizarre thing to copy.

Geek_King,

NINTENDO LEGAL TEAM…ASSEMBLE!!!

Geek_King,

I have a dumb question:

So, the naming convention is confusing here, is this just the next installment of the Remake?

Geek_King,

Ok great! I didn’t finish the first installment on PS4, so I can wait for this new release and play through the first part and second part + DLC all in one game. Sounds good to me!

Geek_King,

I don’t understand why some companies just can’t figure out a consistent naming schedule for sequels. I’m looking at you Capcom and Street Fight Ultra Turbo Alpha Second Strike Tournament Edition with a Cherry On Top

Geek_King,

Big fan of the phrase “singing at”. It implies it was singing with out a desire to hear singing on the part of his Developers, excellent.

Geek_King,

I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of co-optimus.com when looking for co-op games to play with friends. It’s really helpful, you can filter games out by platform, number of players, online co-op, local co-op, split screen, dated released. It’s very helpful!

Geek_King,

I held off on playing NMS until last year, I have a lot of experience with similar games on PC like Empyrion and had my expectations set by that game. Boy you couldn’t be more right about the planets, just about actual planet size, but nothing interesting but cloned points of interest. Empryion’s world generation is fantastic, very believable and smooth, transitioning between biomes and having those features being visible from space.

I got around 10ish or 15ish hours out of NMS, and I just noped out when I realized the best way to get a ship was to buy it from a random NPC who just landed, found a ship I liked, bought it, didn’t like the color and found I couldn’t repaint it (at that time, maybe that changed). Between all the stuff we’ve mentioned, plus weird bugs like ships warping into atmosphere but then glitching through the ground. Meh.

Light No Fire looks interesting, but my gut feeling is, it’ll be a huuuuge world, largely full of nothing worth while. I’ll keep an eye on it to see how it develops, and how it’s received at launch. My default position is … cautiously optimistic.

Geek_King,

My favorite example of this is Tribes 1, players found if you tap jump fast while going down a hill, they could “ski” down and gain a lot of momentum. The dev’s hadn’t intended this to be the case, but players loved it, and the dev’s thought it was cool so they left it in. Now skiing is just considered a primary trait of Tribes games.

Geek_King,

I’m shocked that HyTale is still in development, it feels like it’s been a real long time since it was announced.

Geek_King,

I know it’ll be worth the improvements, but I’m allowed to be disappointed all the same. I swear they had a November release, so a week or so ago when I tried to find the release date, I couldn’t find it again, and instead just saw Winter 2023. I was bracing for a delay (still disappointed though).

Geek_King,

I hope this is one of those times were the company making the the game knows just how intensely popular their game is and don’t advertise and hype it for 2 years prior to release. It’d be nice if they just launched their trailer, then have the game come out a month later.

Geek_King,

Oh I know, I’m just saying I wish we didn’t have 2 straight years of hype coming.

Geek_King,

I feel the same, I don’t really trust gearbox, so I’m cautiously optimistic. Hopefully it was a case of Hopoo trusting gear box after their long partnership, and not a case of Hopoo looking to make cash with the sale of Risk of Rain.

Geek_King,

Nostalgia! Riding my bike to a store so I can spend 5 bucks on a PC gamer magazine just for the demo disk. Because downloading a demo was just an obscene proposition with 14.4k dial up modem.

Geek_King,

I remember being so excited going from 14.4 to 33.6! Don’t even get me started on CD-ROM speeds!

Geek_King,

May as well try to prevent the tide from coming in by fighting it with your fists.

Geek_King,

Yeah that logic on their part is horseshit, anyone savvy enough to mod a game that isn’t mod friendly knows that if they have instability that’s on them for modding in the first place. All the times I completely hosed my Skyrim install with mods, or my Cities: Skylines install with mods, I never once thought about contacting the game maker for support. So to act like across the board modding will cause a flood of support requests is dishonest.

Geek_King,

Exactly, if you hose your self, uninstall, delete the folder entirely and redownload. It’s a cope out to point to mods as increasing demands for technical support. If handled right modding can breath longevity and extra interest in your games. Shit, some of the most popular games on the market started out as mods originally.

Tone deaf companies will continue missing the point.

Geek_King,

Wow, I hadn’t heard of SIGIL 1, much less SIGIL 2, so Romero is making new episodes of Doom/Doom 2? Crazy!

Geek_King,

I appreciate info! I’ll check out the Doom Remaster on Steam!

Geek_King,

I absolutely adored this game on Genesis! I put so much time into bashing my head against it, such a fun game! Thanks for this wonderful write up!

Geek_King,

I just bought the remaster of Ark (Yeah I’m a consumer whore, I know). It looks fantastic, incredible visuals but I’m not sure if the frame rate matches with how good it looks.

Geek_King,

I’m still worried about Hopoo not being at the helm on this one, as I trust Gearbox about as far as I can throw them, and since they’re a whole ass company of people with a building… not very far.

I did love Risk of Rain 1 a shit ton though, so I hope this turns out well!

Geek_King,

Thank you friend, that makes me feel a ton better! Well better about Risk of Rain Returns, still worried about future Risk of Rain 2 though.

Geek_King,

I’m shocked I’ve played as many of my games as I have! I thought it would be a lot lower of a percentage

  • Games owned: 903
  • Games played: 654 (72%)
  • Hours on record: 10,428.8h
Geek_King,

Hah, that’s great! I can’t wait for season 2 of Invincible! I love that they made some of his moves things he did in the show/comic!
