Nobody likes a sucker, especially the kind that fall for fruit tarts like you. I knew there was trouble. I could smell it on the hot evening breeze. Fortunately for me, trouble is my favorite thing… Because I’m Joe Milkshake. I kicked down the door with one swift, decisive motion.

That’s quite high on the “so bad it’s good” scale, though, or isn’t it?

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Does it even have a live USB? I thought that’s not a thing with immutable distros? At least Kinoite didn’t have a live USB option.

Seeing your post I was actually worried because next week I wanted to install Bazzite on my laptop. For me the download worked fine though, 3-4 MB/s, its the bazzite Asus nvidia image. So it seems more of a problem with your internet connection somehow, more specific to wherever they store downloads.

Are you downloading with a download manager that could retry connecting when it fails?

@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yes. Admittedly I don’t have time to test if it really boots. I wanted to do that some time end of next week when I got a day off to take care of stuff.

Sorry, you need high quality data for training.

The software updates are maybe not an argument when it comes to degoogling? Then it depends if the OS they plan to use still sends updates.

There’s like 20 years between those pictures.

Yeah, that one is definitely a sight to see, if you can stand looking at dead people’s bones.

I might miss the point, but the height is dependent on both parents genetically, so just comparing mothers with daughters is a bit like the usual “correlation does not equal causation” thingie, or not?

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Oh, completely missed that, thanks!

It is use of mobile phones. It’s got to be!

I also heard good things about Nobara in terms of gaming. Haven’t tried it myself though.

A supermarket trip may soon look different, thanks to electronic shelf labels (www.npr.org)

Grocery store prices are changing faster than ever before — literally. This month, Walmart became the latest retailer to announce it’s replacing the price stickers in its aisles with electronic shelf labels. The new labels allow employees to change prices as often as every ten seconds....

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

This is news? I have seen those labels here in Sweden a lot already. Just no idea if they do those scummy on the fly price changes.

Checks out with being an analyst I guess.

Why not both? (Until the laws are catching up)

Welcome to the internet where you cannot make the rules if it involves thousands of other people.

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Thanks! I have seen those links but haven’t had time to read them fully yet, they looked like just discussing around the issue to me, not solving it. But I will have a closer look again, thanks for highlighting those.

“Need” for windows is just my wife who uses the same laptop. VM might be an idea but it will still be “different” and she is not very technical. So yeah, it has to be dual boot for the beginning, so I might in the end just go for a different distro that is easier to set this up with.

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

No encryption as far as I am aware of, unless its standard in windows 10 and I don’t know about it. I have experience with partitioning, so I’ll have a think if this is worth trying or not.

Have already backed up important windows files anyway.

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Awesome, that is exactly the type of first hand experience and description I was looking for! Thanks!

Is there anything to be expected when updating the system to a new version? Maybe you haven’t done that yet…

Great to hear, thanks again!

That’s hilarious for a country with very ingrained bathhouse culture.

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Well honestly, that’s too soft. They did not decide. They were pushed by regulators to follow the law. So bowing to pressure is more appropriate in my view.

You got 2 apps on your phone???

…sorry, could not resist

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Google allows that though or do they mean access of Google Play via 3rd party apps?

Not that I am saying it might not be necessary to include Google from the start, sets a good precedence and prevents a future where they might go the Apple route.

Just hope both Google and Apple won’t restrict opening up to Japanese market only. But who am I kidding, they will.

You see how tight those abs are? It’d be like blowing into a mil carton.

Would be really nice to name them when posting such a comment…

NES/Famicom Box Art (lemm.ee)

We were having a chat about retro box art on my Discord server, so I was browsing some Famicom box art today. I don’t have a ton of NES (North America) ones I like, as it’s a lot of this kind of thing, but there are a bunch of Japan ones I like. The post link is for Destiny of an Emperor 「天地を喰らう」. I also like...

I think your number is from a statistic on share of desktop usage. But I could be wrong about that too.

I can tell you what they will look like. They’ll be as convinced as in OPs article that they are still right and say “see, I told you!”

This is an ad.

No mention of OSMand, Organic Maps, or even Magic Earth

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yes, exactly. The upvotes did not reflect actual real engagement for a long time. I don’t remember anymore where I read about it, but allegedly there is also some artificial correction applied. Maybe to combat brigading of upvotes but can of course be used for manipulation.

It’s for Yes, No and Cancel. You’re welcome.

It seems a controversial topic, I didn’t think so either but here we are.
