catloaf,

That’s the neat part, they don’t! They have a huge domestic weapons industry already!

catloaf,

How would adding this one to the list be different?

catloaf,

If by “avalanche” you mean “escalation of conflict”, yes. They don’t allow firearms because of one side shoots, the other side shoots back, then everyone is shooting and it’s a real war. Without guns, they have to actually go up and fight the other guy, which is much less effective fighting. A few guys beat up a few other guys, instead of dozens shooting and killing dozens.

catloaf,

It’s the “I’m not touching you” of international geopolitics. They’re doing everything they can think of, short of actual war.

catloaf,

And pigs may grow wings and fly. I’d be shocked if either of these things happen.

Putin says Russia and North Korea will help each other if attacked, taking ties to a ‘new level’ (www.cnn.com)

Vladimir Putin said Russia and North Korea have ramped up ties to a “new level,” pledging to help each other if either nation is attacked in a “breakthrough” new partnership announced during the Russian president’s rare visit to the reclusive state....

catloaf,

No, they would. NK is already manufacturing weapons for Russia. And back in the Korean War, Soviet Russia provided weapons, aircraft, and pilots to North Korea. That’s more or less what would happen again, I think.

US lawmakers meet with Dalai Lama in India's Dharamshala, sparking anger from China (apnews.com)

A bipartisan United States congressional delegation met with the Dalai Lama Wednesday at his residence in India’s Dharamshala, sparking anger from China which views the exiled spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism as a dangerous separatist....

catloaf,

I’m not sure why China is upset about this, because the current Dalai Lama is a mess, and China kidnapped the Panchen Lama and installed their own guy in his place. They’ve already got pretty good control over the future of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism.

catloaf,

Erasing a culture? I feel like there’s a word for that.

catloaf,

Probably because looking around a room doesn’t make a good trailer.

catloaf,

Was each floor a separate unit, or were they all one unit?

catloaf,

Probably because they don’t know.

Or it’s an unintended side effect of some secret NSA backdoor that they have to either fix while maintaining the backdoor, or drag their feet until the NSA can finish up their active uses and get a new backdoor.

catloaf,

Not only that, but if the mission costs $7 but you can only buy in increments of $10, that’s $3 free money.

catloaf,

That doesn’t mean you got overcharged. I feel the prices I pay to Valve are fair value for what I receive in return.

catloaf,

“I will make it illegal.” – Emperor Rutte, maybe

Canadian warship sharing an anchorage with Russian vessels in Cuba (www.cbc.ca)

The Royal Canadian Navy now finds itself in the unusual position of both shadowing Russian warships as a threat in the Caribbean and sharing an anchorage with them as a guest in the port of Havana — because Canada accepted an invitation to send a patrol ship to Cuba while the Russian navy is in town....

catloaf,

The embargo is the reason they’re still so friendly with Russia. Ending the embargo would be a massive step towards friendly relations with the US and less with Russia.

catloaf,

“LCD screen” might satisfy you and be non-redundant.

catloaf,

I don’t even do that. I short the header pins with a screwdriver.

You can also power on a PSU directly, by taking a paperclip and shorting green to black. Only for ATX standard 20- or 24-pin connectors, though, not others.

catloaf,

They are always addressed as “Mr.”, but whether they continue to be referred to with the title of President is up to the individual style guide.

catloaf,

The only reason anyone would reject that condition is because they want to resume the genocide.

catloaf,

They haven’t learned from Oblivion, Skyrim, or Fallout 4. Probably others.

Or really, they learned they can just keep releasing games on a hacked-up Morrowind engine, and make huge piles of money. So that’s what they’ll keep doing.

Hamas leader said civilian death toll could benefit militant group in Gaza war (www.cnn.com)

The military leader of Hamas has said he believes he has gained the upper hand over Israel and that the spiralling civilian death toll in Gaza would work in the militant group’s favor, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, citing leaked messages the newspaper said it had seen....

catloaf,

“I want your land” isn’t a make-believe reason.

catloaf,

In well-run orgs, yes. Most places are not well-run.

catloaf,

Good plan. It didn’t end well the last time they crossed the border with hand tools: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_axe_murder_incident

catloaf,

Honestly, better being committed to a hospital where he can’t be killed by a mob.

I’m all for fighting for human rights, but you have to fight. Just hoping for the best is never going to end well.

catloaf,

I would not put too much faith in the quality of their care.

catloaf,

One thing you can do is copy a paragraph or two into the post text.

Chinese military harassed Dutch warship enforcing UN sanctions on North Korea, Netherlands says (www.cnn.com)

A Dutch warship was harassed by Chinese military aircraft in the East China Sea on Friday, the Netherlands said, becoming the latest country to accuse Beijing’s forces of initiating potentially unsafe encounters in international waters....

catloaf,

Economic sanctions are the non-violent option. Actual violence would be guns and bombs. If you want to equate the two, war would be the more efficient option, so I don’t think you want to imply that it’s acceptable.

catloaf,

Unless you define “human shields” as “another person within a quarter mile”.

catloaf,

This source seems extremely biased.

catloaf,

Literally read the article. Pay attention to the words they use when talking the people and groups.

catloaf,

Doom 3 is fun on its own, but it’s more like Resident Evil than Doom, maybe. More plot, more scare-horror, less run-and-gun.

It definitely needs the duct tape mod, though. I know what they were going for, but it just doesn’t work.

catloaf,

How you use the card is not going to make any significant difference in time to failure. Buy the cheapest one that fits your requirements.

catloaf,

Unless you’re overclocking to mine crypto at high temperatures next to the ocean or in another corrosive environment, not in any meaningful way, no.

You could argue that manufacturers have different track records in terms of MTTF, but I’m not aware of any with poor track records. If there are any lots of GPUs with defects that could cause early failures, they’re not known yet simply because not enough time has passed.

catloaf,

conducted by the University Network for Human Rights, the International Human Rights Clinic at Boston University School of Law, the International Human Rights Clinic at Cornell Law School, the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, and the Lowenstein Human Rights Project at Yale Law School

So yeah, big names there. I’m not hopeful about it changing Biden’s mind, though.

catloaf,

It is not.

This article doesn’t mention if anyone was killed in the raid, Hamas or civilians.

catloaf,

And OP posted twenty fucking seven trailers in less than two hours. That’s positively excessive. Trailers are one of the least useful types of content here in the first place, but to fill everyone’s feed with them is completely unnecessary.

UN adds Israel to blacklist for harming children in conflict zones (www.middleeastmonitor.com)

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has notified Israel’s Defence Attache in the United States, Major General Hidai Zilberman, of his decision to add Israel to the blacklist of countries and organisations harming children in conflict zones....

catloaf,

No, the UN was formed to stop nuclear war.

And it’s been effective. We’ve had no nuclear war (but a lot of genocide).

catloaf,

We don’t want a hardy lifetime dock. We want Israel to stop committing genocide and to allow aid by land and air routes.

catloaf,

I never said anything like that.

catloaf,

“They” is pretty clearly referring to the military, as that’s what we were discussing.

catloaf,

Aid by land and air can be done in the short term, a lot faster then building a dock and shipping by sea. The only thing stopping that is a pure policy decision by Israel.

Personally, I think the US should continue with aid airdrops. Hell, I think they should load up trucks and roll through Rafah or any available crossing in Gaza.
