kureta,

That is why Microsoft spent a total of gazillion dollars to have its OS pre-installed on all PCs. We need more PCs with Linux pre-installed. This should be an antitrust issue but I am not knowledgeable enough to say how.

kureta,

It actually looks great. I’m surprised to see that to be honest. But I use next cloud only as an alternative to Google drive. I find most of the times I can’t make apps work and risk breaking my next cloud installation. But if it works for you, awesome 👍

kureta,

Before Gaben, there was only vapour. He invented, nay, created steam.

kureta,

open standards and interoperability should be the law.

kureta,

touch file && chmod +x file is good but this here is the one true command for the purpose.

kureta,

As many people have already said, just do what you need to do. That’s the best way to learn. But if you are afraid you’ll break your system with dangerous commands, use docker or a virtual machine for practice.

kureta,

unironically agree. if it is useful for the community someone will fork it. you are not forever a slave to your open source contribution.

kureta,

not Linux but some open-source software with premium features that have menu items with diamond icons or something like that pointing to those features. you cannot hide the menu items and it keeps sending you notifications to subscribe to an annual license.

kureta,

Apenix

And this sounds like nix for apes 🐵

Legitimate interest? (lemmy.world)

I never consent to give my data away or being tracked, but how do you deal with so called legitimate interest? I tried several times to untick them but it is a long list (in fact at the bottom there is a “vendors” link with even longer, much longer list. It took me 10 minutes to get to the bottom of it once)....

kureta,

And that’s why you also surround it with double quotes.

  • kureta,

I have a 2011 MacBook pro with Arch Linux on it as part of my make shift homelab. It’s a good feeling to revive these things.

    kureta,

Didn’t have time to play. Playing Atomic Hearts now and so far it is good.

    kureta,

I’ve always had problems with ssh on kitty.

    kureta,

I know. I still had problems even when I used that. I don’t see why are there problems at all? Why doesn’t alacritty have the same problem?

    kureta,

I am running arch on a 2011 MacBook pro. so, probably. Even if you don’t plan on using arch, the wiki has all the info to get you started.

    kureta, (edited )

Unfortunately I need CUDA. I hope either ZLUDA and/or actual CUDA works on NVK in the near future. Better yet AMD could release something that can compete with CUDA but that seems highly improbable.

    kureta,

How do Russia, Albania and Serbia have claims? I’m not objecting, just curious.

    kureta,

But in the end, we all know who is the real successor

    :)

edit: I have a Greek friend who travels a lot. She was in Istanbul and she told me that her mother once said “You have seen all around Greece. You’ve seen Athens, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli, Kos, Constantinople

    kureta,

Maemo on Nokia N900 was awesome. But even before Microsoft Nokia and Intel decided to rewrite a perfectly working phone OS from scratch and stopped development for years while trying to build Meego. At the time android didn’t have multi-tasking, but on Maemo you could play a video on vlc on the background, and it kept playing while switching windows, inside the list of little windows. It used qt for ui and you could even write native looking apps in python. It had full access to the camera api, people were writing crazy scriptable camera apps for the thing, such as the frankencamera. Why would you throw away a perfectly working os and waste time trying to rewrite the exact same thing for years Nokia!? why!? it could have been an actual Linux phone revolution years ago. and no, I don’t think Android is already Linux phone. fight me.

    kureta,

arch with gnome. arch because pacman and AUR, gnome because I messed around with tiling window managers for an unnecessarily long time but I don’t have infinite time to customize and personalize every aspect of my computer and map every action to a keyboard shortcut and memorize them :) I need to det stuff done. I sort of forced myself into using the least amount of customization. that’s why not KDE.

    kureta,

maybe they are talking about public toilets on the streets. not in restaurants. like the ones that clean themselves in Paris.

Starfield group fixing Bethesda's bugs say their job is tough as mods feel an afterthought (www.eurogamer.net)

“What’s more frustrating for those working on SCP, and the wider Starfield modding community, is how difficult it is to work with Starfield’s code without official modding tools and support. This isn’t helped by the delayed mod tools from Bethesda, which the company says are coming at some point next year.”

    kureta,

I’ll be busy playing Baldur’s Gate 3 anyway. Will look back when they finish fixing it after release.
