Sadly because it works, mobile gaming is bigger money-wise than PC and consoles combined, all because people are susceptible to short term dopamine hit your can buy any time, it’s a part of what we call enshittification, making the product less user friendly and make more money, shareholders are happy, your don’t have to

@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Another security feature added is the blocking of downloading files from URLs that are on lists of potentially dangerous content.

Yeah, I’m not sure blocking HTTP downloads by default is a good idea, I mean many offices probably have some internal legacy HTTP only sites that nobody dares to touch, that are perfectly safe being HTTP (if you have hackers inside your network a simple intranet site spoofing is your least problem), and disabling this security option might have a lot of wider repercussions

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not just about that, people will be disabling the feature that is potentially beneficial to their security, disabling http downloads from http sites is just an extension of blocking http downloads from https sites

Seems like a ~~blessing ~~ glaring kde bug, I mean how is it possible? Why a theme needs to be able to execute shell commands?

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe I’m old but I’ll never buy a live service game, I mean I don’t like to play with people anyway, but there are multiple solo games with a bunch of MTX in the top of AAA price and they can shut down servers any time, and that’s stupid

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

yeah, the ambient temp is about 20 °C, running 100% fans gets me 85°C in furmark, it seems to be a case independent because getting panels off seems to effect the situation insignificantly

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, but everywhere online people with rx6600 say it’s getting 70°C max, even with smaller coolers, gonna replace the terminal pads and paste later, hope the cooling isn’t compromised, like broken heatpipes or something

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Definitely worth considering, thanks

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

one question just to make sure, are you running it in performance or silent mode? there is a switch near the power plug, asking because there are conflicting comments/reviews/opinions online most saying it’s silent and maxing at 70°C while fans are relatively silent and some say the cooling is loud

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

I heard about the game but didn’t know it came out already, maybe marketing was insufficient, wouldn’t buy it though, don’t have any VR hardware anyway

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

it’s a sub brand of Toshiba, so not some unknown shit, very respected brand i’d say

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

ssds getting not enough power? i’d test it with different PSU, i had a problem with my ssd failing and changing PSU worked, apparently 3.3VDC rail is routed on the motherboards without any conversion straight to m.2/pcie devices

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, an oscilloscope would be handy in hunting spikes, it’s a bit harder with a standard multimeter, you sure you don’t know anyone with a spare PSU to borrow?

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Just look at Facebook, yesterday I was spammed by sites with AI fakes of Scarlett Johansson, reported them all, this morning Billie Eilish with biiiig boobs in suggestive positions, reported, now I’m being bombarded by Alexandra Daddario obvious fakes, it’s getting ridiculous

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

I don’t mind ads and suggested pages that are vaguely related to my interests, but aside from obscene manga and obvious fake baits for horny men (seriously I watch my porn in private tabs), I’m not interested in groups as exotic as “car spotting Philippines” or “my dream mud house in Congo”

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, tried replaying first Soul Reaver, I just couldn’t, it felt clunky af

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, I was a Linux user at the time, I remember 2.4 to 2.6 kennel transition, it was a breath of fresh air, filesystem wars, some people liked xfs, others jfs, normies used ext3, reiser4 with all the shit they promised, like accessing mp3 on the filesystem level etc was mind-blowing, them he killed his wife…

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Lol, I remember -ac kernel, it has a modified I/O scheduler or something, also I remember using some guys kennel, he went silent one time, after some weeks the guy’s wife wrote on the forum he fell off the ladder, became a vegetable and soon died…

Occasional crashes in games

I got a used PC from a friend, it works perfectly fine most of the time. But some games crash unregularly but reproducibly. When a crash occurs sometimes my screen just goes blank, other times I get a popup from the AMD driver saying “AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occured on your system.”...

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Any overclocking or undervolting? I had the same crashes when trying out some OC related settings in AMD software after I bought my RX 6600, it’s either this or your GPU is failing, the third option might be PSU failing to satisfy your GPU power needs, are you monitoring GPU temps? Overheating might be an option too, definitely GPU related error though, lowering the power limit might help serving the problem

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Didn’t fully like the first game, it doesn’t even hold a candle to fallout, the worlds are awfully flat

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Sure, time flies, Psychonauts 2 was in 2021?

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

yeah, the charging cable for my JBL headphones had similar double sided plug

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Guessing Genshin Impact like gameplay? Dunno what engine they use but AC: Jade seems to be awfully similar gameplay-wise and it’s on UE afaik

maniel, (edited )
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, I was wondering too if it’s Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West or maybe Forza Horizon (I know it’s ridiculous but for some people I know it’s the only Horizon game they know, mostly Xbox gamers), but font on the job offer the talk about definitely like like Horizon Zero Dawn logo font

maniel, (edited )
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe not mobile but PC people are definitely Horizon fanbase, a bit lagged but still, Forbidden West is on it’s way to PC

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

An exact PSU model would help tremendously, afaik only high end ones have variable fan speed, for example my cheap Thermaltake’s fans spin at constant rate

maniel, (edited )
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Had a similar problem, will the system boot if you reset CMOS? Then I’d check the PSU, mine was faulty, looked like 3.3V rail was failing when the load was high and SSD shat it’s pants

anyone tried 2x m.2 pciex8 passthrough with x8 GPU in x16 slot?

Recently I saw this RTX 4060 Ti by ASUS with an m.2 slot, it’s a sound idea, why waste 8 lanes (by putting 8 lanes GPU in 16 lanes slot). But I’m wondering about homemade solution, I found one of those passthroughs, it should work theoretically, adding 2 additional m.2 slots to the system, obviously it won’t work in most...

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

yeah, i know such cards exist but the goal here is to tap those 8 lanes you loose by using x8 GPU (such as RX 6600, RX 7600, RTX 4060 etc.) in x16 slot, people could gain extra 2 m.2 ports this way, enabling compact-ish builds with lots of storage, for example i have only only one m.2 slot on my cheapo mATX board, and two additional pcie 2.0 x1 slots i have available are pretty useless storage-wise (not faster than SATA3), it would be pretty useful in my case (though i would be able to use only one additional m.2 slot because x8x8 bifurcation support)

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

As for third party accounts you can only select IMAP, no pop3, sand it warns you’d be logged in thorough Microsoft servers, they don’t even try to hide it

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah that’s the thing for me too, I’ll just buy it on sale in a few years, trying to not watch gameplays of games I’m interested in to not break it for me, made that mistake before with Horizon Zero Dawn, watched gameplays, read whole wiki of lore being sure it won’t be available in PC, few months later PC version was announced, bought it on a sale about year later, still had a lot of fun though

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Wasn’t Destiny always a live service game?

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, that’s why we should discriminate against people like this, or at least feel better than them

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

But it’s not a problem for the platform, it’s a problem for the buyer, same with YouTube dislikes, it’s wise for their business model, I really doubt a fake review is bad for Amazon

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Demos from Steam’s Next Fest, Talos Principle 2 looks nice, Robocop game is cheesy and over the top AF like 80s movies, I love it

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Downloaded Forspoken demo yesterday, turned on FG and it was horrible, artifacts everywhere, then I remembered it needs vsync, turned it on and it was awesome, it bumped my ~30fps (rx6600 on almost need details) to very comfortable 60fps without any visual glitches

There was this weird metallic glow on everything dark though…

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved?

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, will probably start whole new walkthrough

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah, Xtube seems fitting( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

yeah, High On Life has similar type of humor to Trover Saves the Universe (same developer, both are Justin’s Roiland games)

maniel,
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but yeah, it’s basically a tech demo/walking sim
