A close friend of mine is making a playable-spider-girl-based game.

I’m in the process of programming a procedural spider walk for it: youtu.be/oeBFCxbtwXM

The spider body is placeholder, it will become a drider. The plan is to make the legs able to seek and grip on arbitrary 3d geometry, including flailing when no good purchase is available, and allow the spider to traverse on any surface.

Edit: I am also chronically ill but slowly finding stability, don’t hold your breath for this to come out.

Thanks! I think that’s a good sign :)

I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong about me being a weirdo with questionable taste.

Spider tank game does sound cool. I actually have a scifi concept about cyborg-vehicles that people ride inside of. They’re genetically-engineered living tissue with cybernetic components, a cockpit and possibly a neural interface, and they would be walkers.

The walking controller is generic, so it really should accommodate any number of limbs. And you could quite easily make it lumber more slowly like a mech.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Huh, I never made the connection with Eva, but I watched that as a kid so the influence would’ve been there.

And yeah, MW4’s feet blew me away when I first saw them. The way they tilted to match the ground and rotated to turn the mech.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Isn’t it weird that the country being invaded has a lot of older soldiers joining the fight to defend their homes and children? Almost like invading a country and being invaded are two entirely different things that can’t be easily compared.

Are you actually a tankie for modern day Russia? Are you actually trying to defend them? You know they’re just capitalists, right? Like they don’t even pretend to be socialist anymore.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Oh yeah, just out of context statistics that don’t actually relate to what was being said but just so happen to imply that Russia is better in this regard. No agenda here. Anyone not a tankie would’ve immediately denied it because tankies suck. Also a non-tankie probably wouldn’t be named fidel on the .ml instance.

If Russia is running out of young men, that’s Russia’s fault.

If Ukraine is running out of young men, that’s Russia’s fault.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Okay what?

Okay you agree?

Okay you’re being dismissive?

What was the meaning of your statistics? Explain yourself.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I’ll take this as an admission that you have absolutely nothing to say, or at least nothing you care to say openly.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Okay.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Of course they wouldn’t. They’d be making six figures overnight.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

If workers were the owners they would also have decision-making power.

This isn’t just about stock options, ownership in a holistic sense involves control.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Don’t forget paperbacks. This trashy pulp fiction is corrupting our youth. Socrates was right.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

We know about ancient Greece because the youth ignored the moral panicking of their elders and used the technological abomination of writing things down.

Presumably society was a paragon of moral virtue prior to that, not that we’d know since history was written by the people who invented writing.

I blame it on cave paintings, it filled young people’s minds with fantasy images so real they could no longer tell the difference between reality and cave paintings. We never should’ve invented fire shadow plays, it was a slippery slope ever since.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Couldn’t possibly be due to the rising threat of climate change, fascism and economic precarity. It couldn’t be a society that has utterly failed its children and abandoned them to the harsh future it created. It must be those dang tiktoks. Better ban them.

(you’re being lied to to distract you from the real problems that we actually need to fix)

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I just want to ask if you know what it’s like out here. Like are you sure you want this?

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yup, see the person below you saying almost exactly that in more clinical - but clearly sincere - terms.

Edit: When I say they are “sincere” that is not to say there is any merit to what they are saying. I’m pointing out that they actually believe this garbage is justification for the mass slaughter of children.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I had this gif open in a tab once in college. I just thought it was funny and I had it in a portable web browser on my portable hard drive, so I could resume my session on any computer.

Anyway, I opened it one time and a friend of mine went, “Oh shit please get rid of that.”

I didn’t really get it, then they said, “No you don’t understand, I have an irrational fear of Beaker. I had a horrible dream where he was doing surgical experiments on me and he really upsets me.”

I had just inadvertently found possibly the worst version of their worst nightmare and jump scared them with it.

More anti-agriculture propaganda from an obvious banana.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Why are you afraid of big tractor if you’re not a banana? I’m bird-dogging you, banana, I’m gonna expose you.

Excrubulent,

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

“Always have been” specific in your denials… like the specific insistence that you’re not a banana. I’m starting to wonder if you’re some other kind of berry. It would fit the evidence just as well.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

…dreamstime.com/…/bananas-transported-tractor-239…

Any more wild aspersions you want to cast on my character?

Are you with the bananas? What kind of agricultural produce are you?

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS HERE

Edit: maybe you can EXPLAIN THIS YOU FRUITERRORIST

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

This is genocide denial plain and simple.

Also remember that whenever anyone tries to tell you that you shouldn’t be bringing up Biden’s genocide support because it might hurt his chances in the US election, they are also doing genocide denial. They are genocide deniers.

They may not be denying that the genocide is happening, they’re just denying that we should talk about it. They’re denying its importance.

And sure, Trump would probably be worse at this, so vote. But if Biden genuinely needs widespread genocide denial to win then that is not only not an acceptable thing to ask of voters, it is also unhinged. People know about the genocide, they know Biden is dragging his feet on the issue and pretending that’s not happening just to protect him makes his case look extremely weak.

If you really think that no amount of denouncement and excoriation will influence him to stop supporting genocide then again, you are saying awful things about him without realising it.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

You can’t have it because of peer pressure from dead people. You gotta take them seriously, motherfuckers will haunt your ass and say shit like “thirty fathoms, gold dubloons and schooners, twenty nickel shillings”. We have the metric system in our country and the ghosts suck, they don’t even try to come up with sensical nonsense phrases for the sake of the bit, the lazy bastards.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Did you see someone shoplifting? No you fucking didn’t, narc.

EDIT: Okay, so just grabbing a top level comment to dispell some misinfo.

Stealing baby formula to onsell online does happen: nytimes.com/…/money-issue-baby-formula-crime-ring…

Parents stealing baby formula out of desperation also happens: huffingtonpost.co.uk/…/the-desperate-reality-of-s…

The problem here is that baby formula is something people need to feed their babies, and our society has decided that if you don’t have enough made up arbitrary tokens, you don’t get to feed your baby.

If I don’t know 100% that the person I saw stealing baby formula is doing it as part of a crime ring, then I’m not going to ruin a parent’s life because they did what they needed to feed their baby. Even then if the crime ring is selling it at a discount then I don’t particularly care to stop them either.

If you want to tell people that shoplifting is such a problem and you want to focus on the crime rings and ignore the poor people, your priorities are messed up. Also none of you know how to source your claims. Also, don’t start with some BS about how nobody ever does it to feed their baby, that’s just false.

In conclusion:

Did you see someone shoplifting? No you fucking didn’t, narc.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Seriously?

No one shoplifts formula to feed their own baby

No one ever does this? It has never happened? Now obviously that’s not true but let’s be kind and say that you’re exaggerating and you mean it’s just rare.

If this is true, can you explain how you know it?

Edit: the first piece of bullshit was so egregious it distracted me from the existential horror of unpacking the rest of the comment. This is a nightmare of miseducation.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah, so many people in here are saying nobody ever does this and everybody who is stealing is just re-selling the goods but I don’t see anybody actually substantiating that. But like, it can’t be right, can it? Surely some larceny is done for personal use. And even then, most cases of theft aren’t documented because when someone gets away with stealing some expensive necessity they don’t tell the cops.

It’s got this “nuh-uh, everybody knows dogs can’t look up” energy. Like if it’s so obvious, how? What are they talking about?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah plus just the logistics of trying to shoplift enough product to make enough money to justify going to the trouble of sellng food on a street corner sounds so absurd. Like how do you do that without getting caught all the time? You would need to be shifting volume.

And when you get this kind of recurrent misinfo I assume it’s a story that gets passed around somewhere, like some reactionary commentators are repeating it to their audiences or something.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

No, this can’t just be an edit, this needs a whole new comment.

I just want to add that this comment makes the bizarre claim that a shoplifter drained the store’s supply so that they’re the only source. Now, even presuming this is literally the only store in town that sells baby formula, in which case there will be another town half an hour down the road, how did they get all of the baby formula out of the door? How do you shoplift the kind of volume you need for a scheme like this without getting caught?

And further, how in the everliving fuck do you sell it? You have to be visible enough to sell the formula, to people you’re ripping off, in a small town where the only grocery store just got all of its baby formula lifted. They’re going to fucking expose you.

This would be a scandal. It would be a news story. Please, give a link to a single time this has ever happened, because of all the things that never happened, this happened the least.

25 people thought this story was good enough to upvote. Where the shit are you getting this garbage? What the fuck is happening?

Edit: is there a “shit conservatives say” community? This is such rank bullshit I need somewhere to process it.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

“Well-known scheme”?

So I must have something seriously wrong with my understanding of what’s being said here, because I made it pretty clear how absolutely balls to the wall insane it sounds. Just the concept falls apart the moment you think about it.

Maybe you can explain it? Or again, just show me where it’s happened, even one fucking time.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Huh.

…com.au/…/woman-who-made-thousands-onselling-stol…

Whelp, nothing to do but admit I was wrong about this.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I have already looked up the information for myself and admitted I was wrong about the fact that the theft rings exist, it’s in this thread if you read just a couple of comments deeper. That’s not the only thing you said though.

As for your claim that “nobody” steals for their baby, which you didn’t reply about, that also took two seconds of searching to debunk:

huffingtonpost.co.uk/…/the-desperate-reality-of-s…

Also, the idea that the theft is responsible for the store being out, or that they charge an enormous markup, are both still completely unsubstantiated.

This isn’t the cut and dried issue you seem to think it is, and I’m still definitely not about to ruin a parent’s life for stealing food because they might be part of some theft ring. I also am not going to narc on the theft ring. That’s not my business.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

If it helps, people are absolutely stealing food for themselves and their babies:

huffingtonpost.co.uk/…/the-desperate-reality-of-s…

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Cool, so glad you’re happy to erase the existence of the poor and desperate for the sake of what, exactly?

See, in this context, we were literally talking about people doing that, and they literally do that, so to say “nobody” does it is just a false claim.

If you weren’t trying to minimise the struggle of poor people, you fucked up, because that’s what your comment did.

Nice work trying to find an angle where you were only literally wrong and not in the privacy of your own head.

What about the rest of your claims, were they hyperbole as well, or something else? You’ve just dropped them.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

It’s just a mimic playing with its food.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

He literally didn’t even say it, he just admitted that there are reasons for other people to think it. This headline wants him to have said something much stronger than he actually did, and even then Israel is throwing a hissy fit over anything short of full-throated support.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah, not trying to argue, just pointing out how it’s even worse. It’s so easy to accept a false premise when someone states it up front like this headline does.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I have played through that and I don’t remember that part, did they make it easier to find or something? I’d be shocked if they left it the same, it really sucked.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yup, found out the real answer from a friend who was a little shocked.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Actually the 3d thing makes a lot of sense. I had a walk around the new Myst game recently and everything’s location was so much clearer when you weren’t navigating it through static screens.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Did you ever finish it? If not the conclusion of the game was pretty satisfying, and nothing is spoiled by being told about the door thing. It’s actually more memorable for me than the following ones, maybe because I spent so long wandering around in despair. I actually tried replaying it a little while ago but just bounced off the extremely clunky 90s design and the technical limitations. I think this remake will be a good chance to try again, and see the environments rendered nicely.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah, 3 and 4 were where they hit on a really good balance between the pre-rendered graphics and a smooth experience with the skybox-style wraparound images. In V they went to full 3D rendering which was clunky because the computers of the time just weren’t up to it. I think now we’re finally seeing how good these games can look and work in 3D.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yup, if you’ve played Obduction it’s like that. Full 3d environments made with modern rendering. I tried the latest Myst remake and this one feels like a modern game, although I imagine most of the early 90s design foibles are still there.

I haven’t played many of the other remakes of the original, there have probably been too many, but it’s nice to see the later games getting this treatment.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Haha awesome, it will probably be easier than at 8 lol. I got stuck in my early 20s (long after the game came out, I’m not quite that old).
