dejected_warp_core,

Doesn’t matter. 30 minutes on the monkey-bars is the best upper-body workout you didn’t have to pay for.

Bonus: use your adult muscles to spin the merry-go-round while those kids hang on for everything they’re worth. Be a hero.

Sometimes gen alpha is scaring me

SharkEatingBreakfast,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

My kid is in middle school, and the current thing is calling out to “chat” out loud if something interesting happens.

“Chat, is this real?”

“Chat, did you see that?”

“Chat, do you know the answer?”

Etc.

Some kids are already “terminally online”.

volvoxvsmarla,

Some kids are already “terminally online”.

I say my kid is speaking Meme. It sounds a bit nicer than terminally online. But then again she’s 2 and that’s her third language. I’m just not so sure I can call it English when she mostly says It Is Wednesday My Dudes, Yeah Boiiii or It’s the Selcuk Turks.

SharkEatingBreakfast,
@SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz avatar

I honestly don’t mind it, as my kid and I also bond and joke over quoting homestarrunner & other online media.

I think it’s only an issue if the kids can’t “turn it off” or have no other interests or hobbies other than doing things online.

Plus, it’s middle school. These kids don’t really have themselves figured out yet, so constantly parroting popular memes can gain them some acceptance from their peers.

Oh crap by the time our daughter is in middle school these will be boomer memes

Please don’t horrify me with such things when I’m having such a nice day.

Pov, the kid understood POV ♥️

festnt,

pov you realise every generation is worse than the one before

citrusface,

Stop being an old person. Just because things are different doesnt mean it’s worse. It’s the same in a different way. I had pogs and power rangers. Kids now have memes and tiktok. Whatever.

pineapplelover,

Nah the tik toks are worse. We didn’t have “brain rot” when we were young

krimsonbun,

yeah we did. we always did. maybe not as much but we did. I’m not sure when you grew up but look up any ytp on youtube and tell me that isn’t brainrot.

Peter the Park Ranger continues to haunt my memories

MindTraveller,

That television will rot your brain!

Psychodelic,

Watch out! Your kids are reading horror comics

Don’t bother talking to them and reading a comic with them to see what it’s about or why your child likes it. Just get mad!

Problem solved

Don’t forget paperbacks. This trashy pulp fiction is corrupting our youth. Socrates was right.

TheSaus,

Turns out they were right, just not about television

citrusface,

I disagree, but I see you’ve made up your mind on the situation. Just saying, it’s costs you nothing to let other people have fun and enjoy the things they enjoy.

GeneralVincent,

The lead paint chips and leaded gasoline and micro plastics and PFAS would disagree

nossaquesapao,

The early hominids must have been awesome

Why does every past generation have to hate on the future generation

SkyeStarfall,

I refuse to be part of that trend. Let the kids be kids and have fun

LaLuzDelSol,

The kids are not having fun.

…transforms.svdcdn.com/…/Picture-2.png?w=2000&q=1…

Idk if this will load right but just Google adolescent self harm rates or something similar.

SkyeStarfall,

I don’t think hating on them and their culture is the right way to fix this

LaLuzDelSol,

No it’s definitely not. I was just making the point that we shouldn’t just assume that new trends are fine by default, just because past generations have had panics about new trends that turned out to be harmless.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Couldn’t possibly be due to the rising threat of climate change, fascism and economic precarity. It couldn’t be a society that has utterly failed its children and abandoned them to the harsh future it created. It must be those dang tiktoks. Better ban them.

(you’re being lied to to distract you from the real problems that we actually need to fix)

LaLuzDelSol,

Did you look at the graphs though. Something happened right around 2012-2014 and it was definitely social media. I mean yeah its not the only problem but it’s definitely one of them.

pov every person that aged badly complaining about the younger generations since times immemorial.

Every single generation had senile old farts saying that about them since, at least, ancient Greece - though it’s more likely that’s going on since humans have the concept of generation. More often than not, the old farts were wrong.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

We know about ancient Greece because the youth ignored the moral panicking of their elders and used the technological abomination of writing things down.

Presumably society was a paragon of moral virtue prior to that, not that we’d know since history was written by the people who invented writing.

I blame it on cave paintings, it filled young people’s minds with fantasy images so real they could no longer tell the difference between reality and cave paintings. We never should’ve invented fire shadow plays, it was a slippery slope ever since.

krimsonbun,

pov maybe it’s not that the younger generation is always worse, and it’s just old people complaining as they usually do
