I’ve finally cancelled my game pass (and my WoW sub but that’s because I don’t have time). I’ll be putting the monthly savings towards buying games I actually want to play, starting with Portal.
Wait is dry actually related to sugar content? I mean it makes obvious sense now that you said it but I’m so used to using dry/sweet for wine based on the taste and never really made that connection that it was sweeter because it actually had more sugar, I guess I thought it was pixie dust making it sweeter.
Would this work at a professional level? I haven’t tried Gimp either in a long time these days, but I think it hasn’t gotten much better? I think most of everything else I’ve “de-adobe’d” and either use FOSS or other proprietary software like DaVinci Resolve or Bitwig with reasonable purchase options, which I could all use on Linux but I don’t think I can really leave LR+PS as they’re so core to my daily work.

It’s the reason I’m still hesitant of emigrating there with my family (Canadian wife). Even though we’d be going to Quebec which is the “least American” part, it’s still a bit too close for comfort for me… I worked for American companies for a long time and fuck that lifestyle. What I’d really like is going to a “slower” country where the rat race takes a back seat and people just enjoy life more, but that usually also means abandoning a lot of benefits and links to modern life and our entourages so the missus is not so hot about it. Meanwhile we live in one of the most advanced countries on earth (Netherlands) so it’s also really hard to justify moving when we have it so great here in terms of infrastructure, administration, career prospects etc etc etc. Very few countries offer a better deal.
Yeah I was lucky to get to grow up, visit and live in other countries so I have a decent idea of what to expect, and I’d tend to agree with you. When you’re old on your death bed you won’t be thinking about how you made some great quarterly results for faceless shareholders or how rich your country was or whatever, but you’ll sure as hell be wondering if you enjoyed life as much as you could and gave enough attention to your loved ones. Maybe places where material wealth isn’t as important can help with that but who knows…
Not exactly the same vibe but I keep a good memory of getting engrossed into this anonymous writer that made a whole story in Reddit comments: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/9MOTHER9HORSE9EYES9
It’s very dark and mysterious, it was crazy cool waiting for the next comment to drop but I think there’s a repository somewhere so you can just read them all in order.
Where are you from? Where I live (in the Netherlands) there’s an official tool from the public transport services which works just as well as gmaps to plan your train/tram/metro/bus journey.
Right I eyeball it so it’s hard to be sure but I’d say between 1:2 and 40% liquor probably, + lots of ice. That’s still about twice as strong as these premixeds, you’ll certainly tell the difference. I just don’t like neat liquor but I’m getting really into “short” cocktails, things like whiskey sours, basil smash, margaritas, gimlets etc where it’s mostly the main liquor with some complements.
It made slightly more sense back in the days, when each update also used to bring significant changes to the game engine, graphics, etc etc. But these days those changes are so incremental they’re barely noticeable, so simple yearly updates and a full refresh maybe every 4/5 years would be fine, but they figured out people don’t mind paying an AAA price tag every single year so why stop.
Yep my wife likes these games so I usually get it for her but only 6 month/a year later when there’s good sales. Personally I lost interest after Odyssey (which I loved), I’m just waiting for one set in Japan!
Verily, when one doth profess concern for the welfare of vegans, yet doth engage in mockery and jest regarding their potential dearth of sustenance, 'tis most probable that such a one harbors no genuine care for the vegan’s well-being. 'Tis indeed vexatious and perturbing, if truth be told.
Depends on what job I’m applying to, if it’s a job I really want for sure I’ll be writing an awesome cover letter, e.g. when I tried and got very close to working for an amazing NGO that would’ve sent me and my family to Polynesia you bet I was giving my best in the application. If I’m applying for a batch of faceless companies XYZ then yeah screw that.
It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?
Yeah since I work with it LR+PS are holding me back from switching to Linux. I’m not full FOSS on the rest either but at least they offer Linux versions.
I’m not even sure they agree on that topic tbh, I’m no expert in the matter but I believe JK’s transphobia stems mainly from her radical feminism and wanting to protect what she thinks of as true women, whereas trumpers just hate everyone for unknowable reasons. Same end result though.
Actually when I moved here from Reddit I really enjoyed that it seemed like the perspectives weren’t so US-focused. I don’t know if there were really more non-US folks or if maybe the more left leaning userbase meant I noticed it less. But now I feel like I’ve been in quite a few threads where US dominance was in full force, like the one asking why weed is illegal but alcohol not, or anything that mentions gun control.
From my limited experience, kiwis and Canadians are friendly in a more polite/well-mannered way, Aussies are friendly in a more, errr, “colourful” way.
Isn’t that a temporary thing though, eventually that hump will pass and we’d be down to more sustainable population levels. I’d rather it happens naturally because of birth rates than because half the planet becomes unsurvivable.
I’d say these examples are different, more like Kleenex where brand names become the common term. This is more like when parents used to buy a Wii game for your “playbox station”.
