OsrsNeedsF2P,

SMS? You mean the paid, vendor lock-in, MITMable traffic? Possibly one of the only options that is actually worse than Discord

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Stats aside, I can’t help but laugh anytime people suggest Lemmy is dying off or failing. Aussie.zone didn’t used to exist, and Lemmy.ml used to have like… one post a day? And it would be some tankie nonsense like “I’m a Russian living in Ukraine - Russia isn’t going to invade Ukraine, it’s all Western propaganda”

OsrsNeedsF2P,

In addition to everything listed here, there’s something big that I can’t mention yet since it’s not 100% merged yet, but only 95%! Hopefully next week. 🙂 So stay tuned for that!

Nate’s a hype man

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Time to bring back the reproducible build hype

OsrsNeedsF2P,

The backdoor wasn’t in the source code, only in the distributed binary. So reproducible builds would have flagged the tar as not coming from what was in Git

OsrsNeedsF2P,

And if they leave a message, I won’t listen to it. Text me instead.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! (pawb.social)

I don’t like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Lmao typical DNC advertisement regurgitation. This election is not ‘the most important election in history’.

Third party of bust

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Why blame the Green Party and the Libertarian Party for the DNC’s failure? The DNC always says we have to vote for the lesser of two evils. The DNC always says next time we can get a better candidate.

The parties are the same. The Dems just pretend to be better. When real issues come around, they have the same policies.

Third party or bust.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

We looking at different memes, or should I clarify my stance further?

Vote for third party or bust. A vote for Democrats or Republicans is the same path we’re already on, and nobody likes this path

OsrsNeedsF2P,

2 things:

  1. Literal politics. Rarbg had project members volunteer to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war… For both the side of Russia, and the side of Ukraine
  2. Drama. Contributing takes a lot of time and effort. People get attached to their ideas and contributions. When people start drifting apart and fighting, third parties have to play politics to keep people happy and working towards a common goal
OsrsNeedsF2P,

Per the article, no one claimed responsibility

OsrsNeedsF2P,

And these limits will be tied to inflation?

There is one uncleared level remaining in Super Mario Maker, with 18 days to go before the servers shut down (www.issmmbeatenyet.com)

UPDATE: Ahoyoo has confirmed that Trimming the Herbs was uploaded with TAS tools, meaning that The Last Dance was the final legitimate level all along! Congrats to kazeihinn on the Last First Clear! The journey continues in Super Mario Maker 2…...

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Feels like I saw the ads for this game just yesterday. I want to trust these proprietary services won’t disappear with my work, but I simply can’t. Some people say 10 years is a long time, but not me.

How I install Mullvad on Silverblue based distros and add repos

One of the things I struggled with initailly when using immutables was installing programs like VPNS that need to interact with the immutable parts of the distro but don’t have a flatpak option. I figured I’d just make a post to help anyone with this specific issue regarding mullvad or if it helps people install other...

New to Linux—Epic Games compatibility? (Plus more)

I’m thinking of installing Linux (think I’m going to use Nobara) on my new budget gaming PC, and my biggest worry is video games compatibility. I have most of my games on Steam and Epic. Some on GOG, and some on Itch. I know a bit about steam compatibility, but not much about the rest. Is this something I need to worry...

OsrsNeedsF2P,

You can check www.protondb.com, but games by Epic will generally have a bad time

OsrsNeedsF2P,

1k? My last MacBook was 5k

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Because it doesn’t use x86. It also costs twice as much compared to other arm based laptops, because Apple.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Noo you’re not supposed to find your home folder >:[

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I guess I need to be more clear.

The reason it’s more efficient is because it doesn’t use x86. This is not exclusive to Apple. You can buy arm laptops elsewhere.

The reason it costs twice as much is because it is Apple. This is exclusive to Apple.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

If there are other ARM laptops that compete on power and efficiency, I’d very much like to learn more about them. Can you share?

ThinkPad X13s

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Brand name

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Sounds like they should have spent 150M building solutions to these problems instead of dispersing these problems to other places…?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Also new is initial Rust support for the LoongArch architecture, a UFFDIO_MOVE uABI operation to allow pages to be moved within a virtual address space while avoiding page allocation and memcpy done by UFFDIO_COPY, the KSM advisor feature to automatically manage the kernel samepage merging subsystem, support for the SMB file system to create block and character special files, and Rust support for creating network PHY drivers.

Looks like it’s starting to trickle in

The truth about linux having 15% market share in India.

I am from india. These numbers are inflated due to our population and government and health sector office pc using linux (ubuntu). These office pcs just require a chrome browser and all the work is done on the browser Nobody here cares what os they use in their office pc. I don’t see anyone here switching to linux on their...

OsrsNeedsF2P,

What do you want? A stat counter for everyone’s personal PC?

The government of India, the largest country by population, using Linux is… a huge win?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

My sister only uses her MacBook to access Safari and watch YouTube videos. Should she be counted?

I understand what you mean, and these aren’t people intentionally installing Linux in their houses… And while that would be better, it’s not the only win. Government employees in India using Linux on Chrome means that Google has more incentive to make Chrome better on Linux. It means that people have less reason the arbitrarily block Linux users from their website. It means maybe in the future, Linux will be installed on school laptops as well.

Is it the Year of the Linux Desktop? No. Is 15% still misleading, hence your post is a good PSA? Yes. But is the 15% not a win? Nah, it’s still a win!

196 Stands with Palestine, but those of you in the US should still vote in the general election.

I’ve been seeing a lot of anti-voting sentiment going around. Can’t believe I have to say this, but you need to vote. Not only is there more to the election than just the president. (State policy, Senate, house), but not voting is not an act of protest. C’mon guys

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Dunno, looks like there’s more than 2 candidates to me

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Looked her up. What a legend! Will definitely be using her name in plave of blank “vote third party” from here out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_de_la_Cruz

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Do dead kids in Gaza make tasty spam? I usually only get it pork based

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Third party and proud gang. A key reason we’re in this mess is because people keep voting for the same two wolves.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml

Israel is definitely complicit in genocide

<span style="color:#323232;"> In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Killing members of the group;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
</span>
OsrsNeedsF2P,

The more I read it, the more I agree with you. The other part of genocide is you must prove intent to eliminate more than just a political group. Right now the Israeli are killing a lot of innocent people, but they keep saying their goal is to eliminate Hamas, not Gaza. They know what they’re doing, and likely chose that language to avoid being accused of genocide.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Flathub verifies you have permission from upstream before accepting it. Other than that, sandbox.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

People need to realize that before Flatpak, distributing a small-time Linux app was a nightmare. Appimages were your best option if you wanted to avoid distro specific builds, PPAs and AUR, etc. Ever since packaging 2009scape on Flathub I haven’t looked back. It auto updates. People can find it from software centers. It works on all distros. It connects straight to upstream’s CICD. It even forced us to adopt XDG compliance so we could sandbox it better.

Yes, Flatpak has downsides like the download size (on disk it doesn’t matter because it gets compressed and the runtimes are shared, same as literally any other package manager). But overall, I hugely welcome it over the options we had before. Much love to the Flatpak and Flathub devs!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Flathub doesn’t accept CLI tools (unlike the Snap store)

Regarding modifying Sandboxes, try Flatseal

OsrsNeedsF2P,

They should, actually. Google released a tool for downloading only the diffs on binaries a few years ago

OsrsNeedsF2P,

LOL

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Arch Linux waited for 6.0.1. Besides, you don’t have to upgrade if you don’t want.

(I did like Manjaro’s community though. They cool)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Is latte dock still maintained?

Hopefully it gets fixed since I know a lot of people like it, but it might be permabroke

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Technically yes, but you’ll probably break your system because it’s a lot of work to keep track of which packages depend on what manually.

The best way to do this would use some sort of immutable distro with a frozen KDE version instead

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I do with KWin rules. It’s not elegant but it doesn’t require coding
