OsrsNeedsF2P,

This is satire but it still hurts to read

OsrsNeedsF2P,

No, America is the number one country in the world!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Genuinely don’t know how I feel about the “trans women in sports”. On one hand, it is a valid concern for a recently transitioned player to compete in some events, but on the other, I can totally see younger girls see more women at i.e. the skatepark and it encourages them to give it a try too

OsrsNeedsF2P,

As if the Democrats are much better. They’ll give you trans rights but stop short of preventing the murder of thousands in other ways.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Is there data that shows lower suicide rate when transgender support (?) is provided?

*Not sure if support is the right word, but just generally curious if there’s data around this sort of thing

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Keep in mind slashing tires full of compressed air can be very dangerous

OsrsNeedsF2P,

proceeds to get sued for patent violation

Gotta love the free market!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Framework prices aren’t cheap unless you really fudge the numbers. That said, it will still be my next laptop, because I’m fairly confident it will be cheaper long-term

OsrsNeedsF2P,

You mean GitHub signin?

Because Flathub operates on GitHub. If you hate it that much, you could use a different Flatpak distributor (I heard Fedora has its own?)

Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I was trying to make a Windows XP compatible app last month and my god is it ever difficult. Nothing works on XP anymore, so it’s insanely hard to test/develop software. All the legacy download links are dead too, so you can’t go install older versions of things either.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Fun fact- Dinnerbone, from Minecraft, works on this for free!

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Steam’s runtime is already sandbox-ception. Flatpak might be more appealing to Valve than it seems.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

It’s not about you, it’s about what’s easier for Valve. If Valve is fine packaging, and getting bug reports, from all the different distributions, they’ll keep doing things as is. But as a Linux app developer myself, I exclusively publish to Flatpak because it guarantees everyone has the same system.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Gnome spends a lot of time testing user designs that are simple and get the task done for the 99% marketshare they don’t have. They try not to be bound by our current approach to computers, and instead idealize what most of the world actually wants.

I think it’s a noble goal but will never touch it. I’m surprised other people do. That said, I’ll always support them because of how much they upstream.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I went to a game dev meetup in Seoul last year. Everyone was using Unity.

I went again last month. Half the people were using Godot.

For a bit more context, I used to work in the gaming industry. We used Unity because it was great for making money - drop in ads and tracking, you’re good to go. The Godot ecosystem isn’t as mature for that yet. However, even we were considering switching to Godot. It wasn’t worth switching for a number of reasons (besides the above mentioned ones, Godot is also “laggier” and we have some heavier games), but had we started shop yesterday, it’s safe to say we would have used Godot too.

Unity just laid off 25% of their workforce. That is not a small number. Their days are numbered.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

9 hours of sleep gang. Blows my mind people can feel ok with less than 8 (or do they just not know???)

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Don’t force it, but sleep schedules

OsrsNeedsF2P,

A total of 635,000 tons of bombs, including 32,557 tons of napalm, were dropped on Korea. By comparison, the U.S. dropped 1.6 million tons in the European theater and 500,000 tons in the Pacific theater during all of World War II (including 160,000 on Japan).

…yea.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

The pharmacy group, which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings, also failed to properly train employees about the fact that there could be false positives with the technology or to prevent the use of low-quality images.

Lol rekt

OsrsNeedsF2P,

They bought the game and changed out the graphics API to kill the Linux native builds, then after the community got it working via Wine, they added anticheat. Epic went further than incompetence on that one.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

“We plan to challenge the verdict. […]"

Done

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I don’t care if employees are well paid. I do care that Signal takes 50 employees to operate. What are they all doing? This is a genuine question

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I can’t speak for LINE - But Kakao does a heck of a lot more than messaging; it’s one of the top companies to work for and the defacto app of Korea. It’s used for taxis, webtoons, payments, music streaming, banking, social media, OAuth, etc (and that’s on top of all its failed ventures no one uses). So yeah, it makes sense to have a lot more employees. Getting into Kakao is like getting into Google or Apple in the West.

It also doesn’t explain why Signal has 50. Signal is open source, but openly hostile to forks which throttles its development. So I wonder, what are those 50 employees doing? I genuinely would like to see a breakdown

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Why do groups insist on BSD/MIT/Apache style licensing…

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Reality? Is that a different website from LinkedIn? What’s the URL?

Have civilians in Gaza really been allowed to leave?

Five former Ubisoft executives have reportedly been detained for questioning by French authorities, years after they departed from the company amid widespread sexual assault allegations.

That doesn’t mean Christians are Nazis, but it’s not great company to keep…

Unity reportedly considering cap on hugely controversial per-install fees (www.eurogamer.net)

A week after Unity announced dramatic changes to its Unity Engine business model - drawing immediate and widespread condemnation from the development community - the company has reportedly told staff it'll be making adjustments to the controversial new pricing plan....

OsrsNeedsF2P,

A cap sounds like it will be only a kickback for the AAA studios, rather than the indies

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I’ve been looking for a translator that doesn’t spy on my webpage contents! This looks great
