I tried different font settings in the font settings and it didn’t improve much (font hinting, anti aliasing, custom DPI settings, different font size)...
I gotta highly disagree with the blurry mess comment. To my eye Linux is looking about 90% as good as Mac these days. Mac fonts look the best but that os is worse in a lot of other ways. Windows always has looked worst font wise, though I will say it looks better these days than it used to.
Which are basically controlled by the corporations. My point is that there are many people who want to do more and several groups trying to make it happen. They aren’t up against an easy fight. So when a small win happens like plastic straw bans, maybe we can want more without dismissing it as bullshit.
More than one person is to blame. For example, within every single corporation, decisions are often made by committee and even when it’s a unilateral decision, others can speak out if it’s an immoral one.
Yes obviously companies being irresponsible is the biggest problem, but sitting on our hands at home because we can’t make as much of a difference adds up and I’m sick of seeing it excused. Your argument will be used as an excuse to be lazy more often than not.
the best plan of action is to put up corporate regulation
Obviously. People apparently just can’t seem to understand nuance. Either it’s all one group’s fault or all another’s. Also, it has to be a blame game. As if suggesting people try to minimize their home waste is somehow justifying corporate negligence…
The arguments against systemd are very unconvincing but more importantly, there is zero evidence that they actually matter.
And it works.
Further, in order to represent this as a nearly unilateral decision you failed to mention that arch, centos, and opensuse all opted in independently.
And no offense but angry Internet randos arguing software philosophy will never convince me to disagree with the creator of the Linux kernel.
Linus Torvalds said:
“I don’t actually have any particularly strong opinions on systemd itself. I’ve had issues with some of the core developers that I think are much too cavalier about bugs and compatibility, and I think some of the design details are insane (I dislike the binary logs, for example), but those are details, not big issues.”
That quote carries the opposite connotation of what you seem to take from it. He’s saying despite having issues with the devs, he acknowledges those issues probably don’t matter.
I admit I don’t understand the internals of any of these systems. But I do understand that if the creator of the kernel isn’t concerned about systemd, and that if the vast majority of distros use systemd, then it indeed works well enough. The systemd apocalypse never happened and likely never would happen.
I see this argument as software conservatism. The rest of us will be okay with the thousands of knowledgeable developers that seem to think systemd works just fine.
