Singing like he’s at the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer

burgersc12,

Game logic does not always run independent of the framerate. Look at Fallout 4, if you run it at more than 60fps the dialogue literally overlaps itself.

burgersc12,

Why would you play a 60 fps game on a 1,000hz screen?

burgersc12,

Used to be very common, but even Switch games today lock the framerate to 30/60fps or else it runs at 2x the speed it should

burgersc12,

This is my point. A 1000Hz screen would, most likely, be played at as close to 1000 fps as possible. I am not sure why you think i have it the wrong way when it is you.

burgersc12,

I have not tried to refute. Just gave an example of game logic running slower than the screen and a question to why you wouldn’t try to equalize fps and Hz. How am i confused again?

burgersc12,

Ok

Xbox One Series S Series E Series X

Is actually the newerest one

burgersc12,

The concepts are basically right arent they?

burgersc12,

I don’t think he was planning to explain these concepts, just hint at them to the layman reading thr article who probably barely know what Schodinger’s cat is.

Help me choose a distro/stay on NixOS

Disclaimer: I know there’s a lot of questions and posts like this but generally they’re aimed at noobs. I consider myself an intermediate user, and I know generally distros don’t matter much and you can have anything another distro has on any distro but I’m looking for something a little “specific” that better suits...

burgersc12,

I’m pretty sure you don’t need to update Arch that often?

burgersc12, (edited )

With Lutris + Wine-ge you can play practically any game you want. My recommendation is the games I have enjoyed playing since I got my PC a few months back, in no particular order.

  1. God of War
  2. Spiderman Remastered + MM
  3. Horizon Zero Dawn + FW
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy
  5. Forza Horizon 5
  6. Armored Core 6
  7. Maybe Hogwarts Legacy if you’re into the gameplay hint mash RT
burgersc12,

I found archinstall to be very simple to follow, even though the whole thing is shown through the CLI, its basically just one page where you setup everything like partitions, boot, etc. Was a lot easier than I expected with the way everyone talks about it

Rectangle for Linux?

To preface this, I’ve used Linux from the CLI for the better part of 15 years. I’m a software engineer and my personal projects are almost always something that runs in a Linux VM or a Docker container somewhere, but I’ve always used a Mac to work on personal and professional projects. I have a Windows desktop that I use...

burgersc12,

Its not exact but KDE Plasma has the drag to the corner and get the same quadrant/full screen when you drag to the top middle.

burgersc12,

I tried just about a dozen apps that were around at the time Connect launched and Connect was the best by far, and the dev was updating almost daily while actively listening to feature requests.

burgersc12,

OSX doesn’t seem to play nice with linux dual booting. I think holding the option key while booting should force the apple boot menu to show, at least it did when i tried.

burgersc12,

Archinstall let me choose system-d boot and i like it a lot better than Grub2

burgersc12,

What if i have Arch on my Desktop and Linux Mint on my MacBook?

burgersc12,

If you say you’ve been drinking Cerveza Crystal, I don’t think they’ll let you work? At least my boss would say not to come in

burgersc12,

Everything is under control, just don’t look up exponential temperature increase

burgersc12,

Right cause ~ 5% of energy being generated by renewables is such a big help!!

burgersc12, (edited )

38% of electricity. Check here it says about 15% is “renewable” energy (which still relies on fossil fuels to be constructed) and its not like the demand for fuel/electricity is slowing down, its rapidly increasing!

burgersc12, (edited )

The problem is even if we 100% fix climate change we are still gonna devastate the planet, well kill off our society at the least. Like we can’t destroy ecosystems and expect no repercussions down the foodchain, we can’t keep overfishing and expect fish to still be there, and we can’t expect our crops to grow when we destroy the topsoil viability. We are fucked

burgersc12,

Who is we? We seem intent on killing 99% of us to keep 1% happy

burgersc12,

What? Nuclear is included in my 15% figure. Also do some research, anyone with half a brain in climate science is terrified.

burgersc12, (edited )

Electricity is not the only energy. Do you run your car with Electricity? Can you make steel with solar panels? Can you create fertilizer with wind turbines?? The last time we had as much CO2 in the atmosphere as today the climate was IIRC 4-6°C warmer than today and sea levels were meters above where they are today. If the predictions are correct we are on track for RCP 8.5 a.k.a. we are fucked and don’t even realize it yet

Planning on moving over from Windows 10 to Linux for my Personal Work Station. Can't decide which OS I should switch to.

Windows has been a thorn in my side for years. But ever since I started moved to Linux on my Laptop and swapping my professional software to a cross platform alternative, I’ve been dreaming on removing it from my SSD....

burgersc12,

Imo go straight to archlinux. With Archinstall it is significantly less work than people say, I got mine working in less than an hour, with minimal issues. I was on Manjaro for a while and loved the experience, shame about the issues they have. EndeavourOS seems alright but i had issues with the live image (no wifi)

burgersc12,

Not the great pyramid. It has 8 sides, because the pyramid builders wanted to make us question how the fuck they managed to do that!

Help deciding Os

Hi, I’m learning python and I have purchased a 2015 MacBook air. I want to install Linux on it (Ubuntu) but my friend who’s a developer told me to leave the MacOs because they are similar as operative systems. What do you think? Should I change the os and switch to Linux? Thanks. Edit: thank you for your replies. There are...

burgersc12, (edited )

I’ll second dual booting. If you want to try linux, I say put Linux Mint or KDE Neon on a flash drive and live boot it. That way you can test Linux without needing to install it right away.

burgersc12,

Ubuntu worked out of the box for me on my mid 2015 Macbook Pro. Don’t remember any specific drawbacks, but it does take a bit of getting used to the differences. Also dual booting is possible, if you want to consider having both systems on the same laptop, good if you need Facetime or something

burgersc12,

Fasting? I thought they called this “depression”, at least thats what they keep telling me…

burgersc12,

Why is 20% of your movie a sex scene? Pick a sexless movie you fools!

burgersc12,

Paddington 2

burgersc12,

Youtube Music alt players are all over the place. Blackhole, ViMusic, Innertune, Revanced to name a few

burgersc12,

Oh, maybe these?

burgersc12,

I liked Debian, but really you can’t go wrong with most Linux distros, just find one that suits your needs. Mint was another one that worked well on my MacBook

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

burgersc12,

Play some old classics like Mario, they are a lot fo fun to play together! I’d say she’d be better off with a controller, K+M is tricky to get used to when you have never used it to game before.

burgersc12,

Take a look at this site that goes into the details of the shortcomings of Flatpak, its from 2020 but I’m sure some of this is relevant still

burgersc12,

This is a much better read than mine, thanks for sharing!

A RULE SPY'S IN THE BASE?! (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I searched up “Lemmy” on the PlayStore and noticed that Reddit appears right before the last lemmy client in that search X3 do u guys know if there r any other lemmy clients worth trying? I randomly felt like trying all I could find and for now I’ll stay on Jerboa and the Web UI but I use Voyager too now, mainly for DMs...
