Not too sure about the middle part, but the end was pointing out that baby pictures of little Sally playing in the tub are not okay to share or take in the first place.

Its a common enough situation where Ma is going through the baby album with your bride-to-be or a total stranger (mother-in-law) and there’s a bunch of photos of under-dressed children that would definetny make the wrong crowd happy to have.

Our garage flooded last night (not the first time) and so I want to install some water sensors in the garage and basement. There's dumb ones that look similar to a smoke detector, but all they do is make noise, which I'm willing to bet I won't hear since I can barely hear the smoke detector in the kitchen when I'm upstairs....

I’m going to go with the DIY approach;

For the water sensor, I’d look into the possibility of linking the basement alarm to a speaker upstairs. I’ve no idea what kind of alarm you’re looking at or what the electronics are like. Theoreticaly, you can jump off the audio signal just before it reaches the speaker. Send the audio signal through an amp (located close* to the alarm, preferably where it won’t get wet) and connect it to a speaker upstairs.

I would never try to mess with a smoke detector I rely on, but a water sensor…buy two and have fun.

*the amp is to overcome voltage drop in the new cable, I doubt that the sensor electronics will be capable of driving a seperate speaker with at least 30 ft of cable between it.

I think they’re only duplicating the new shoebox pill.

The initial shoebox is filled with all the pills from list, including a new shoebox pill and a new duplicate pill. In fact the duplication pill is reduant so long as you always use the new shoebox pill to get another box of pills.

The duplication pill is still good to make backup shoebox pills. You don’t want to rely on the one and accidently use it on something else, breaking the infinite loop.

For some its not a big deal. For anyone with the computer in their bed room, they want to click shut off and not have all the flashy lights and fans on for the next 30 minutes while windows undoes all the debloat tools you’ve ran.

What apps would you love to have open-source alternatives for?

It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?

I like Simple Note.

I’m not sure about real time collab, but I know you can share notes.

They do have a github page. Having to make an account and store notes server side is a big minus, but it is the only one I’ve found to

  1. Not be Google
  2. support all major OS (Lin, Win, Mac, And, ios, and browser)
  3. Not serve ads
  4. Not require self hosting
  5. Not ask for money (beside a donate button)
  6. Not be Google

Digging into it a bit more. Seems they started in 2008 and were aquired by Automattic, in 2013. Same people behind WordPress. Oddly enough, Simple Note is not listed in their list of products.

Simple Note client side is GPL-2.0 The server is proprietary

They say on their own site, don’t store sensitive data. But that’s good advice for any online service.

Probably. I find a JIS driver is, for the most part, slightly better for a lot of what I do.

The main thing I’ve found is you dont want too much of a point on the bit end. Too pointy and the driver will just wobble on the point and strip everything out.
