seth,

You can’t possibly know if people who don’t support the BSA have experience with it or not if they don’t mention it, what a wild assumption. I was in scouts and enjoyed the outdoor activities and merit badge system, but it was definitely not an inclusive troop by any means. I didn’t notice until my teens, but anyone who was even a little bit different was bullied not just by the other scouts but also the adult leaders. It made me not want to continue past Star. And it’s so weird that they taught the concept of exclusive secret societies for the elite (Order of the Arrow).

seth,

I wish they would fully commit, and emigrate to Russia. Like that idiot family on YouTube.

seth,

Zero rehabilitative potential, but they could basically do this now by putting a prisoner in restraints and sending them on a nutmeg trip. Guaranteed horror with a complete loss of time perception. If purgatory were real, it would be a nutmeg trip.

seth,

It contains myristicin. Disclaimer up front that the best-case scenario is you don’t experience the trip and just get dry mouth and an upset stomach. It takes a lot of nutmeg, there’s a chance of poisoning since you likely won’t know the potency to begin with, and the Erowid vault is full of horrible experiences. Interesting to read though: www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Nutmeg.shtml

seth,

I’m pretty sure I’ve been to that internet cafe, and I’m pretty sure it’s in Thamel, Kathmandu. Still better than Spectrum.

seth,

The very first part about Goodall and tool use in animals is incorrect. Darwin wrote about primates making and using tools, and presumably many other naturalists have for other creatures. He also wrote about musicality and other “human” features in animals as examples of how small evolutionary changes build up over time. Goodall did a lot of interesting research and observation and made it accessible to an easily distracted public, there’s no need to fudge her accomplishments to make a point.

seth,

1 & 3: yes. 2: I’m wondering if when they talked about a panic in science, they meant a panic in not-science, like maybe pop science news or religion?

Right now there are a number of pop science news articles and channels saying physicists are panicking over Webb’s confirmation of Hubble’s observations of Cepheid variable stars and the expansion of the universe. But I haven’t heard any actual physicists panicking, unless panicking means finding it really interesting and wanting to know more and do more observations and research.

Or maybe they meant there was a panic reaction to science news among religious politicians and public figures who were given a huge platform? They are always looking for ways to think of humans as distinctly more special than other animals. And they’re always looking for ways to deny rights to anyone who isn’t cis or straight.

seth,

Are you at a school known for its math or engineering offerings, teaching applied or theoretical students primarily? There’s quite a bit of variability between schools in US.

Why do fdroid main repo keep apps that has not been updated in 12 years ? Isn't it more logical to move apps that has not been updated in more than three years to the archive ?

Like i use an older version of android and every new app on fdroid works for me and keeping the main repo full of abandonware isn’t a good idea and will hold fdroid back on being a good app store . And its not like the apps are deleted or anything if someone needs them for whatever reason they can find it on archive and not...

seth,

You run an Android device older than 12 years that is running Android 11? That’s pretty good, what device? I didn’t think they were designed with 8 years of OS forward compatibility (Android 11 released in 2020 and you mentioned it as the version you’re having issues with playing a game on).

seth,

If he admits he has the money, he is at the very least admitting he lied on record when he said he didn’t. If he admits he doesn’t have the money, he is at the very least publicly admitting he was never as rich as he told his supporters he was - but also admitting that he overvalued the properties, which is lying on record since he said he didn’t overvalue them.

seth,

It’s hard to find a therapist who meshes well with you and can help you make progress, but a busted Lenovo takes to Arch better than Saint Louis.

seth,

I like the way they made the sparkles look sparkly.

seth,

It just goes in counterclockwise circles with the occasional 5 second rest.

seth,

Thank you for the encouragement, very supportive!

seth,

Hey man, that’s not true! I can go into the laundry room, unplug my dryer, and plug in a 220V kettle with a special adapter, or go out in the garage and unplug the table saw. Convenient options!

seth,

Two Ds for a double dose of your experience reflecting mine.

seth,

Congratulations, it’s a huge relief when you are able to leave for a few hours and don’t have to crate them! Mine is in her twilight years and has reverted to not being able to recognize when she has to go, now. It took about a month to de-train her from hiding under the desk in whatever dog emotion approximates shame. Thank goodness for carpet cleaners and enzymatic sprays!

seth,

Sorry you lost your pup, labs are such great dogs! The only thing I hate about dogs is that they don’t live longer than people.

seth,

You are a delightful ray of sunlight on an overcast day

seth,

Me too, it’s a lot of effort but definitely worth it to feel more optimistic and to help other people feel the same!

seth,

Some call that hot cocoa.

seth, (edited )

Maybe the cocoa butter will soothe the pain?

seth,

Just remember what ol’ Amos Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Amos Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, “Lol.”

seth,

Nothing exists before 1970-01-01. This is the *nix epoch!

seth,

They would probably feel bad for at least a week or two since half of everyone they know also died. On average, of course - maybe some folks were just lucky and no one they knew died so they might feel grateful to the dice rolling entities.
