Serious question, how would using rust avoid this? Rust still has reference types in the background, right? Still has a way to put stuff on the heap too? Those are the only 2 requirements for reusing memory bugs
Thanks for the response. Ive heard of rust’s compiler being very smart and checking a ton of stuff. Its good thing it does, but i feel like there are things that can cause this issues rust cant catch. Cant put my finger on it.
What would rust do if you have a class A create something on the heap, and it passes this variable ( by ref ? ) to class B, which saves the value into a private variable in class B. Class A gets out of scope, and would be cleaned up. What it put on the heap would be cleaned up, but class B still has a reference(?) to the value on the heap, no? How would rust handle such a case?
That sounds odd. That also means that a mapper, command, service,… can never return a class object or entity. Most of the programming world is based on oop o.O
Keep in mind im not talking about the usage of pointers, but reference typed variables.
Thats interresting, thanks! Stuff for me to look into!
I also think halfway through the conversation i might have given the impression i was talking about pointers, while it was not my intention to do so. That said, the readonly/mutable reference thing is very interresting!
Ill look into what rust does/has that is like the following psuedocode :
DataBaseUser variable1 = GetDataBaseUser(20);
userService.Users.Add(variable1);
variable1 = null; // or free?
[end of function scope here, reference to heap now in list ]
Euh, no. Used to have a renault clio, which was a lot safer than a car from the 80’s like, lets say, a vw beetle. Lighter too, as back then cars were mostly made of steel, while its a combination of steel, aluminium and plastic now.
Same size of car too, so size doesnt matter either.
The developers were told 6 months before release that it needed to have psn required. Granted, thats waaaaaay too late to tell a dev that, but they could have delayed the game. Instead, they made it half arse and still told sony it was good to go.
Imho, both have gone wrong here
I do this with my .net barcode parserbuilder project. I make a few comments on the pr for them to fix, merge it and then go over it myself to clean it up. This way they feel appreciated because its merged and the code stays clean and consistent :)
This stuff is why i love my 3d printer. Ive been using it to print new pads for my mouse ( tpu and resin as finish ), clips for my fridge ( pla+ ) and bits and pieces of my porch’ flywheel that is on wheels ( petg ).
And recently printed a fidget cube to keep myself busy with
Fair. It all depends on where it breaks off and how tight the screw is. In electronics the screws arent in very tight, and breaking it off often breaks it off all the way down to the base.
Whatever happens, tamper proof is a huge fail and a good joke
Just my personal 2 cents of owning a plug in hybrid : i sometimes drive with an empty battery because the range is 50km max, and my landlord refuses to allow me to install the infrastructure to charge at home, even if i’d pay 50% of the costs. There are also people parking in electric parking spots without charging OR being an electric car, denying me of charging publically. Its a whole mess…
That said, 40% of all km i drive are full electric.
At least in my country public charging is popping up everywhere, but slowly. Not enough resources is poured into it because they think charging is not a thing yet. Thats bullshit ofc, and there is a reason i have my hybrid car. Also, you can charge at home from a regular power plug, and hybrid cars shouldnt need more than that to charge overnight or over 5h time. However, if you live in an apartment like me, you are royally screwed if the owner doesnt comply. Same with solar panels, but thats a different discussion for a different time haha
This is going to be a bit of a conservative opinion, but hear me out because i respect both sides of the conversation!
I think the 2016 doom ost sucks. The way he made is original and kudos to him for doing it that way, but i found the end result boring.
I like my metal, but not death metal. And this is what it sounded like to me. The same note over and over and no melody.
That said : the following youtube meme is exactly what this conversation is about and both sides are a-ok!
Ill have to take a listen to those, but dont get your hopes up hehe. I have the same with hardcore etc. After while it all sounds the same to me. Now dimmu borgir has a few really good songs, but they are melodic black metal hehe
To be fair, most games these days have build in update checking, and more and more multiplayer games are always-online-or-piss-off type of games which shoot down your idea. I wish it was still possible in all games, but alas…
Its a classic company move tbh. Make something, develop it further, hope it catches on and if it doesnt kill it off because maintaining it costs money.
Its a classic and understandable move. Microsoft has done it a few times tbh. Zune, windows phone, webtv, silverlight, … :')
Im not seeing the immersive tech go anywhere any time soon. Microsoft tried it, google tried it, a shit ton of other small businesses tried it. Its not going to go where these businesses live. Id like to be proven wrong but it feel like its just not. We miss the kill app and if it existed with current tech, it wouldve been made already.
I think its best to lay current MR/AR/spacial computing to rest and wait a few years like what happened with 3d/vr in the past 40 years :)
I legit wonder what would happen if this argument is used ( in a professional way by a professional lawyer ) in a court of law. Like, could this legit be argued to be the same?
Still a 7? Just curious, what made it fun for you? What were the expectations? Legit curious, as finding a good comment about the game that doesnt sound salty af is far in between.
I found skyrim fun for 60ish hours and than got extremely bored. Never touched it again. Starfield looked like that but barren as hell, which is not what it is sold as. Those are my personal reasons for not touching it though!
Ye, that makes perfect sense, thanks! From your other scoring, i can see the game isnt that bad, but just average. Even compared to the others, which are rated a lot higher. From this i can also assume id enjoy the game for like 30sh hours, because this isnt 100% my jam. For me that wouldnt be worth the full price, but i can understand for somebody that would put 200h in np it would be worth it :)
Been playing the game since its release and im happy to see this improvement. Just checked out the epilogue and it has multiple endings as well haha.
On top of that, it opens a few doors to future content on top of the existing ending cutscenes which looks awesome.
Cant wait for a sequel or the next chapter of the baldurs gate 3 story
I always wondered how much of the profit is going to who.
Like, is hasbro making 80% of the profit? Habro 20%, wotc another 20% ( despite hasbro owning wotc) ? How much is larian actually cashing in on?
